We had Blockbuster, but switched to Netflix. Blockbuster made me mad, and I wouldn't go back to them if they were the only service out there!
We had a small plan. We got 2 DVDs per month (not unlimited). We had the service about 6 months and then they told us since we were "power users," they could no longer offer us the current plan at the current price. They tried to nearly double our price -- which would make it more expensive than the "unlimited, one at a time" option was at the time we originally signed up (but we'd still only get 2 movies/month for that price). We had other friends who were on the unlimited plan and their price did not go up (so they were paying the same for unlimited that Blockbuster wanted to charge us for 2 DVDs a month.)
I called them to ask about it because:
1) Since we were on a limited plan, how could we be "power users?" We got our 2 movies a month, but it wasn't like we were on "unlimited' and were sending back for a new movie every day.
2) I asked to either be grandfathered at our previous price, or pay the new price, but be switched to the "unlimited, one at a time" plan (the price was what the unlimited plan had been at the time we signed up, and this was the first price increase since then.)
They refused to budge. I told them I wanted to cancel and they basically said "See ya! Don't let the door hit you." Grrr.
Anyway, we switched to the Netflix 2 movies/month plan and we've been quite happy. We've had it for several years and they've never tried to raise our rates (although i'm not sure they even offer this plan anymore.) We have a new release at the top of our queue right now. It's been sitting there for about 3 weeks and it still says "long wait", but that's the first time that's ever happened.
