I dont know if this has been asked before... which would you rather have.... I was debating which one to get esp'ly after seeing the commercial for Blockbuster that you can return it in the store and get something new :scratchin:

I've had both and preferred Netflix because the turnaround time is MUCH faster. With Netflix, I get them in one day and they're always checked back in by 10AM the day after it's sent by return mail, and another movie is sent that same day. With Blockbuster it's been 1-2 business days to get the movie, and after I mail it back it's 3-5 business days for them to receive it and send a new one (usually 5 days). I live in the Denver metro area and both Netflix and Blockbuster have distribution centers here, so it's not like it's just because one is closer or anything. I had a disc take more than a week to be "received" and that's when I decided they were trying to limit my rentals and I cancelled the account.

ETA: The new "return to the store" aspect of Blockbuster might appeal to some, but remember that in-store rentals are subject to in-store terms, including due dates and late fees. So, you'll still have to be dragging yourself to Blockbuster to get the disc back before noon - which is what sent me online in the first place. ;)

Adding the text from the Blockbuster site:

* Separate in-store membership required for in-store rentals. In-store movie rentals are subject to store rental terms and conditions, including due dates and charges which may apply to rentals not returned by the due date. See store for complete in-store rental terms and conditions. Free in-store rentals must be returned to the store where they were originally rented. See your receipt for store location and due dates.

I tried Netflix and I liked the service, but we don't always think ahead that in 2 days we want to watch whatever movie. Instead we use the Hollywood Video package, it works good for us.

We will be going back this year Nov 1 -6!

I haven't been on much late at night, but I have been trying to keep up with the DIS at night thread.

How is everything going with you?

Oh, and I haven't checked out the Blockbuster new deal with being able to go into the store, but that might appeal to me more. How can I predict what the kids want to watch on Friday night!;)

This was from the website I found.. after seeing the TV commercial

"Your Online DVDs can be returned one of two ways. You may return them via USPS using the prepaid postage-paid envelope provided. Or with BLOCKBUSTER Total Access ™, you can take your BLOCKBUSTER Online® DVDs, sealed in their return envelopes, to your local participating BLOCKBUSTER® store. Your Online DVDs may be exchanged for free in-store rentals; you'll receive one free in-store movie rental for each Online DVD sealed in its return mailer. We'll even mail back your Online DVDs for you.

I've been looking into both as well, but how's the pickings for anime(i.e Trigun and Witch Hunter Robin) and tv seasons? Otherwise I rent in store from Blockbuster most of the time

not sure which has a "better deal" but we have Netflix and have had it for years! The turnaround is amazing! I can send a DVD today, the shipping facility receives it tomorrow, and I have a new one the next day! Like I said, we have been using them for years, and have hardly had any problems with defective DVD's. And the rare occassion something *is* wrong, you can immediately report it on their website and they will send you a new one out before they even receive the defective one back!

I voted Blockbuster, but there is a condition to it. If you have a Blockbuster store that's convenient to you, it's a MUCH better deal. I had Netflix for a couple of years, but when I saw the ads about Total Access I thought I'd give it a try. With Blockbuster, I'm seeing more movies-no question. I can either send them back or stop at the store on the way home from work. The thing I didn't realize was when I stop at the store and exachange a DVD, the store sends the mailer back and I still get another one in the mail. If I returned everyone to the store and exchanged, I would be getting twice as many DVD's for my monthly fee.

So we joined Netflix about a week and a half ago. We got an email that they had been mailed out on Friday. We didn't recieve the first movie until the FOLLOWING Friday, and the next one came on Saturday. I hope this is not typical of their shipping time, because that was NOT cool.

I totally agree with this. IF you pass a blockbuster on your way home, it is super. It is a great way to get new releases or popular items that are listed online as "short wait." You do have to open a separate store account and make sure to return the free store DVD's on time. But, you also get eCoupons which are good for free video games or EXTRA DVD's from the store. We drive past the Blockbuster store everyday on the way to the gym or to church so it works for us.

The penalities apply when you get it from the store. I hate going into the store so that is why Netflix is a better deal for me. And I am serious!:scared: :scared1: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

I havent' had Netflix, but have had the Blockbuster Total Access for a couple of months now and love it. I do enjoy being able to take back a movie and get another one if I want it.

I've had netflix for a few years and i love it! Turnaround time is so fast usually!
And I admit, I'm awfully lazy. The blockbuster is out of my way so I would never take advantage of the whole trade in your online dvds in the store.

I don't have either, but my dbf has Netflix and he used to have Blockbuster. The turnaround time is great with Netflix (except for around Christmas when it took around a week to be credited for movies for some reason) and I hate going to the Blockbuster store so I would never use that service.

I have tried both and netflix wins hands down for me. Both of them offer free trials I would sign up for both at the same time and see what one is better for you.

Long time Netflix user, Never had any problems with Netflix!:thumbsup2

My Blockbuster is only 3 miles away...But in such a horrible traffic spot that it takes 30 minutes just to get there, so it wont work for me!

We have blockbuster. I like it because I end up going in store and spending $$ because I have no patience to wait for DVDs. I exchange all my mailed dvds to the store and get a new dvd. Then they ship more out.

When the "watch now" option of netflix is implemented, we may switch. for now, this works ;)

I've been with Blockbuster around 3 years now. Turnaround is always prompt and with the addition of renting them in the stores and no more coupons (although you do get one extra rental coupon a month), I'm watching way more movies.

Since it's easier to rent newer releases in the store, my queue for on-line rentals has changed to be TV series, harder to find movies or documentaries and min-series.
