Netflix on Wii

Well, yes, and no.
I'd think to a certain extent you're right that as long as you can connect your wii via wifi or ethernet cable, since you are already paying for netflix on a monthly basis you won't have to pay the add'l 500 points for internet access.

And the wii will connect to the internet to do updates and will run certain programs which require internet access such as the weather and wii store for free but you must have internet access via an ISP. But to use the wii to surf the web (for doing things like visiting the DIS :rolleyes1), you have to use wii points to buy and download the internet access program just as you would any other other program via wii points. When I did it the cost was 500 points or $5 (but points are only purchaseable in 2,000 point increments). This was a one time charge.

Thank you! I had no idea the Wii charged points for the internet channel. We downloaded it for free when we first got the Wii.

Yes, they had it free at first for a limited time, then it was $5 and nobody bought it, and now it is back free again. :)

We hooked ours up last night and it worked great! I was close to buying a PS3 primarily for the netflix and then having a blu-ray/video game system was a nice adder, but I don't need/want to do that now. Loading seemed just as quick as our laptop and the picture and quality looked great. I'm really excited this is going now.

I didn't even know you could search the internet with the Wii until a few weeks ago and downloaded the channel for free. It seemed really slow to load, so that was the last time I even tried it.

I requested mine. It's supposed to get here today. I can't imagine it's going to be any better than the XBox version, but I'll give anything free a shot! I detest the Wii controllers, so I'm sure that'll be fun trying to get it to work.

So, i want to see if i understand this:

i have a wii, i have internet via COX cable co. modem.. so... i should be able to join Netflix and pay $9 per mo. and access tv shows and movies??

I couldn't find a list of available tv shows without being a member to view -- i need to know if any of these are available:
United States of Tara
Nurse Jackie
Ghost Hunters
Destination Truth

:)

Also, has anyone now nixed their cable co. and switched to exclusively streaming shows?? I think Yahoo had an article about this today..
If so......... how do you handle your child who is addicted to the disney channel shows?

I'm not sure about hte shows you are asking aout, but we have nixed cable and have an antenna and watch maybe 1 or 2 of the local channels, otherwise, we watch whatever we find on Netflix.

Idon't know what your little one watches, But I have seen Hanna Montanna and Suite Life. I have seen quite a few VeggieTales, but I don't have children, so I am nt sure what is available.

You can try Netflix for free for 14 days and cancel with no issue if you aren't happy with it.

Thanks.. but i already did the 14 day free trial, before this whole streaming thing.. so i guess i am not elidgable for another trial..

and dd will pretty much watch anything disney -- she's 9, so a lil too old for veggie tales.. LOL :)

Nobody is too old for VeggieTales, I love to watch them (and I'm 36). There is Season 1 thru 3 of Hannah Montana, and Suite Life and Suite Life on Deck. There are quite a few Disney movies available, even some of the older ones ( An American Tail).

I can't access the site from here or I would check the others for you. They are adding more and more titles everyday. Currently, we are addicted to NCIS, but it is only available on DVD.
