We are thinking of joining Netflix, but I am wondering if it is hard to set it up with Wii? Does anyone have any experience with this and is the selection good?

Thanks so much!

UPDATE: We just got our first movie and the Wii disc. Took my dd about 4 seconds to load it. Kids are now streaming a movie. Cannot believe I didn't do this sooner. We are also able to stream to two ITouches as well as my new IPad. The technology just amazes me. Would highly recommend this for $8.99 a month!

Done it, it's easy.

Ask for disc. Get disc. Put disc in Wii. Read code that disc give, goto online account and enter code. Wait a few mins. Watch movies and TV via the Wii.

I also was thinking about doing this. When you say "go online account and enter code" do you mean go into our Netflix account?

I'm seriously thinking about cutting our cable off.

Yup, it's essentially the same as the online netflix streaming account. All the stuff you can stream to your PC you can stream to the Wii. No HD quality though cuz the wii isn't HD. The PS3 and Xbox do HD though.

The disc they send you has to be in the wii for the channel tp be active, then on the first run it creates a code you enter into your netflix account to synch the two up and then from there you can watch anything from online netflix in your wii.

It's very easy, we have the Wii and PS3 set up for netflix. I also set my mother up with a Ruku player, they all work the same as far as set up. You need a disk (except for Roku) and then enter a code on your netflix account to set it up. As long as your wii is already on your home network it is easy. We did have a problem getting wii on our home network, but did finally figure it out. Also, some of the newer DVD players have this capability as well.

As to the selection, there are plenty of movies, but there have been several times when DD has asked for something and it wasn't available. Also, there have been times when we have watched something and then a week later she wants to see it again and it is no longer available to watch instantly. If you already have netflix check out the watch instantly section to see what you think about the selection.

Instantwatcher.com and Feedfliks are two site that list what's out, what's coming and what's gone on Netflix instant streaming.

Wow guys! Thank you so much! Looks like we will try Netflix.

OK probably rather basic question - what do you need for Netflix to work on the Wii? Right now our Wii is plugged into a TV that's not being used as a TV (aka just plugged into the wall power source). I'm assuming it needs to be plugged into one of the TV cables for the streaming to work? Also we only have basic cable would the streaming work via our cable or do you need a box or something?

Thanks!

Can I stream movies on the PS3 on 1 tv and also on the Wii for the kids on another tv at the same time? Or do we need 2 accounts to do this? :confused3

Not easy at all for us!!!:confused3

I got the disk..... excitedly put it in the Wii..... it said there was a problem and to troubleshoot on the Nintendo Wii site. The site said I needed either a wireless modem or a special adapter plug....

We don't have a wireless modem since we don't have a laptop-just a regular desktop in the basement. TV w/ the Wii is upstairs in the living room.

Borrowed the super long adapter cord from a friend who used it for their Playstation before Wii offered the Netflix option and the plugs were too big for my old modem and my 3 year old Wii :confused3:confused3

I gave up :rotfl: :rotfl:

no, you don't have to have cable, you only need your Wii connected to the internet for streaming to work

you don't need two accounts to stream on more than one device...one day we had streaming on our Wii, the computer, and an iphone...we did have a slight drag but that was our internet connection and not netflix, once we flipped the iphone to 3g instead of wifi, everything worked fine

Okay, another question.... none of our computers have a HDMI hookup. We have a cord and looked, but don't have it. They all do have a VGA hook up. We don't have a cord. We will have to buy one. DH says they come without sound capability and with sound capability. Has anyone connected with these and streamed from their computers to the TVs???

You do need a wireless network. We had to buy a wireless router in order to stream to our Wii. Once we got the router all set up, it was easy peasy!

When I set up my Mom's Roku player for netfix, I had to buy her a wireless router. You can get them pretty cheap nowadays and most of them are easy to set up.

Thanks for posting this! I got me going to finally set up the Wii with the wifi and get the netflix going. It was very easy! Excited about using it now.

Is there a way to regulate what chidren can watch on therie t.v.? Like with Direct, I can program in their remote so they can not watch anything over the PG rating.

You don't have to have an HDMI cable to connect the Netflix to the Wii. My Wii is not connected via HDMI cables just the standard cables that came in the wii box when we bought it and the wii connects to the internet/computer via wireless modem.

Unfortunately, from what I've seen the only way to regulate is your supervision. The good thing is you can review what they've been watching and what they've got in the queue. It may be just our Netflix Wii disk (we got it the very first day it came out) but we can't watch anything that's not been added to the queue. I control what the kids add to the Queue by not giving them the password to the Netflix account so they can't log on to Netflix and add things to the queue unless I'm there.

ok, color me confused. We have the Wii set up, and find there are few, if any, movies available (we're not action movie watchers). What's this about a queue? When we go in, there's a bunch of movies available, most of them 8-10 years old. Is there a better way?
