Netflix...how hard is it to set up with wii? UPDATE! SO EASY!

ok, color me confused. We have the Wii set up, and find there are few, if any, movies available (we're not action movie watchers). What's this about a queue? When we go in, there's a bunch of movies available, most of them 8-10 years old. Is there a better way?

Yes, log on to your Netflix account on your computer. Click on the Tab that says Watch Instantly. There will be a few movies showing, scroll thru the various sections until you find the link that says view all. There are literally HUNDREDS of movies and TV shows available. Then instead of clicking watch hover your mouse over the button and a second button will appear that says add to instant Queue. Click that button for all the movies you think you'd like to watch then go on the Wii and choose which ones you'd like to watch.

Also (this is very important) - make sure your internet connection can handle "streaming video" without any hiccups.

A lot of the lowest-price DSL services may not be capable of doing this...

We have the $8.99/mo plan which is one disc at a time, as many as you can turn around, PLUS all of the streaming you can consume. Can it replace cable or dish ? I don't see why not. The only things you'd lose out on are sports, news, that sort of thing. Of course you can get much of that via the Internet anymore.

For straight up entertainment, Netflix is a great option, especially with the multiple ways of getting it on "the big screen" nowadays. These include, but are not limited to... The major game consoles, Roku Boxes, and more and more Blu Ray players with embedded streaming options for Netflix.

We ditched cable TV, got DSL thru Qwest and use Netflix on Xbox 360 and our Wii via wireless router. Best thing we ever did! We don't miss TV except for news and local weather (during a tornado warning it was hard to figure out what area was affected).

DS figured out he could share our log in info with a friend, he streamed movies at the friend's house on their Xbox.. however you are limited to only three streaming devices at one time. Netflix will refuse to play if too many are streaming at once and will pull up a black screen telling you so. We later changed the log- in and removed that device from our list, too much conflict.

However it opens up an opportunity to share an account with trusted friend, relative if you like similar movies in your instant que and both only have ONE streaming device. Psssst not sure if it's "allowed" by Netflix rules, try at your own risk!

If there are shows, movies you are interested in but can't find them in the Netflix "instant" tab.. do a search! I find more that way as they just don't have everything listed. I also add to my DVD list TV shows/ movies and hope they will be offered as instant at a later date. It will automatically be added to your instant que when it becomes available.

Trish: If you are able to stream, I can't see why anyone would pay more than the $8.99 a month plan. I can't believe how many choices there are.

Also just started a Netflix suggestion thread on the community board if anyone would like to make some suggestions. I am overwhelmed by the vast selection.

Is there a way to regulate what chidren can watch on therie t.v.? Like with Direct, I can program in their remote so they can not watch anything over the PG rating.

You can change the rating of what movies can be added to your dvd queue or watch instantly queue by going into Your Account & Help, Preferences, Change Parental Control Setting. That setting does not have a seperate password to it, though it will make you log out and sign back in before it allows you to change it. This works well if they add movies using the devise they watch it with (like the Wii, PS3..), maybe not so much if they have the password that allows them access to it by the computer.

UPDATE: We just got our first movie and the Wii disc. Took my dd about 4 seconds to load it. Kids are now streaming a movie. Cannot believe I didn't do this sooner. We are also able to stream to two ITouches as well as my new IPad. The technology just amazes me. Would highly recommend this for $8.99 a month!

That's exactly what I keep saying -- "Why didn't I do this sooner???" Heck, if it hadn't been for a school assignment DS had to do for the movie "Lorenzo's Oil" a couple of months ago, I would have never even thought about it. Now I can't remember living without it!! Love all the tv shows we can stream... we are both in Mystery Science Theater 3000 heaven. And I love how you can pause something and when you go back to it, even a week later, it resumes right where you left off. That annoys me to no end with the DVR, how it resets the program if you turn off the tv.

So glad you got it going so quickly!


Edit to add: I also found a free app in the Android market (just called "Movies" by Flixter) that allows me to log into my Netflix queue and change it up or add to it on the fly. Very helpful when I suddenly think of something I wanted to see.
