Nescafe - why??

So why does everyone think Disney still uses Nescafe coffee everywhere possible? Obviously it's cheap and the demand curve for coffee is steep so people will drink it, even if it's bad because it's the only thing available, which means Disney can get away with fake coffee, but does anyone know of another reason? Low cost for Disney + guests being stuck on property with only one option for coffee was the only one my friend and I could think of when we last had this discussion. Has there ever been talk of a Disney relationship with Dunkin' Donuts or Starbucks? I guess from Disney's perspective it wouldn't really benefit them that much from a cost standpoint. I mean, at the end of the day does anyone really decide they aren't going to stay on property bc of bad coffee??

I wish that they would set up more places with a better brand of coffee, especially in the resorts. It must not be an exclusive contract with Nescafe, because a couple of resorts already have a coffee stand with better coffee. Why not put one at every resort?

Disney could still serve the Nescafe at the counterservice dining locations, especially for the refillable mugs. But why not offer a wonderful, superior, coffee stand at every resort for those who love good coffee?

I would be willing to pay $5 per cup each day, and I imagine others would, too. It's insanity not to offer it, because the cost for setting up a coffee cart is not that expensive, and the profit could be amazing!

If you look hard enough, not EVERY place is nescafe, but its far and few between. Only option I can give for the resorts, it seems most if not all resort gift shop sells mickey mouse coffee that you could use in your room.

I don't suppose you know what brand that coffee is (?) I know I can bring my own if I really want to, but as an international visitor it causes its own inconveniences with customs.

It's a contract that businesses make. Simple as that. Coke and Disney did it a long time ago. McDonald's and Disney did it and then they separated. If you really look at your TV shows, it's called "product placement" there. It gives the TV show extra revenue because whatever company is sponsoring them (behind the scenes) gets their product on camera. It gives the sponsoring company "free advertising". It happens all the time now. My husband and I laugh about it and quite frankly, never buy a product just because it's featured somewhere.

I feel for the coffee drinkers who don't like Disney's coffee. However, if something I don't like is the only thing available where I am, I adjust. Water is a nice substitute.

Because they have a contract with Nestle.

I think the real question is...why did they sign that contract?

OP, there are at least two stands that serve Joffrey brand coffee (not sure if I'm spelling Joffrey right). Outside the gates of AK and outside the gates of Epcot. Real coffee, not coffee syrup, yay!

Agreed! lol.

There are also Joffrey's stands in AK (back towards Everest) and in Epcot (near Universe of Energy I believe). I think there were a few others but those are the ones I remember getting coffee at. First time I saw the one in Epcot I got so excited I took a pic of the cup & posted it on facebook with the caption "OMG *REAL* coffee at Disney!!!" lmao.

Does anyone know the answer to this? Nescafe is so woof. :sad2:

It is also easier to use, can you imagine brewing that much coffee?

Nestle is the Sponsor of The Land Pavilion. They pay large amounts of money to Disney for this sponsorship. More than likely their sponsorship contract includes certain food purchase requirements by Disney.

All I know is my sister gave us a gift set of Mickey Mouse coffee several years ago and it was comparable to Nescafé, i.e., bad. I always take Starbucks to brew in the room. Of course I've never had to bring it through customs.

You could place an order with gardengrocer for some Starbucks when you get to your room. They sell it in the bags at most grocery stores now, and you'll at least have good coffee in your room.

I love coffee and HATE that horrible Nescafe!! We stayed at Pop and I didnt' feel like bringing a coffee pot, so I got Starbucks instant coffee and used my refillable mug and had REAL coffee. It was really good! I can tell you where, in each park, you can find real coffee. Though, usually I do not drink a lot of coffee while in the parks. I just like a nice cup in the morning and after my afternoon break before we go back to the parks for the evening.
My son and I were just saying how much money they could make if they put a Starbucks in or even just near the parks. Even Seattle Coffee Company would be good. I guess a contract with Starbucks would be too expensive.

Actually Seattle's Best (I think thats what you mean) is owned Starbucks and may serve the exact same beans.

Its all about branding.

Here is my take on the "Why Nescafe?"

Well Nestle is a huge food company and as CF points out, sponsors an entire land in Epcot. With that they get certain perks like semi exclusive contracts.

Also, at one point, they had maybe the only coffee system that didn't require coffee grounds and brewing and holding pots of coffee at temp. Which meant less waste and always "fresh" coffee. Even with todays new Kurig style one cup brewers its still cheaper to use the syrup.

This leads me to my last point, to the huge majority of the US population, if its dark and hot and you can put a ton of sugar and creamer in it, its coffee. ;)

Yep, I will concede that that describes me! :lmao: I grew up on instant coffee so Nescafe doesn't bother me. I also think Starbucks tastes like ash! If they could get Dunkin Donuts or McDonald's coffee in the parks I'd be a happy lady!

There is also Kona coffee stand in Poly outside of Kona Cafe, and Starbucks at the Swan/Dolphin.

I wasn't going to bring this up, but I used to frequent a coffee user group. There you were looked down upon if you didn't buy your beans green and roast them in a roaster you built your self from a vintage hot air popcorn maker that you could only buy for a premium on eBay.

Well on this forum they called Starbuck's Charbucks becasue they over roasted their beans. They thought this was done to try to get some sort of coffee flavor in their moca-caramel-grande-frappé whatever coffee drink. :)

Look if you want "real" coffee you are going to have to search out one of these coffee carts that doesn't sell Nescafe. By putting it a cart they can up charge you more then if they sold it at the CS places.

Also this is Florida most of the year people are not looking to drink coffee and they are only going to sell so much, even iced coffee. So its not going to be like some cities with literally a Starbuck's on every corner.

Here is the link again for where to get real coffee. http://allears.net/din/coffee.htm
