Nervous

I am the biggest scared-y-cat, so needless to say on my first cruise, I was terrified of the open water, and everything that was in it...the mandatory life boat(muster) drill and my extensive knowledge in disaster movies didn't help either.

But after I got on the ship, and faced my fear, and watched the ship sail away...it became easier, like ripping off a bandaid. Then I worked myself up to looking out of the strategically placed ginormous portholes all over the hallways of the ship, and I was over it. The ocean became so peaceful to me.

I still have that fear because in the back of my mind, because I know the WORST that can happen, but it doesn't bother me anymore. When on board, I am more consumed with the delicious food, excellent hospitality, fun entertainment, and beautiful surroundings that is Disney Cruise. :)

You'll have a blast.

Depends on your cruise. If all you are is nervous about is being sea sick, n you are doing a few days in Bahamas, its prob fine. Ive done two cruises this spring out of Port canav n they are both the calmest I personly have ever been on. I suppose because of all the islands in the area, its not really open ocean. Headed down to the virgin islands, u could feel it a tiny bit. But on our 3 Day Dream, we never felt anything but didn't have a seaday either. The itinerary I have struggled with is headed thru the open gulf n down past cozumel to Belize etc. When you are traveling down parallel to the coast, the waves bounce off the coast n it creates this sideways rolling that is not good for me. I wanted to kiss the ground in Roatan!!! I still would do it again in a minute but I have learned a few things too.

For me, I used to head up to the gym first thing on a sea day n hit a workout so I could enjoy my day. Then I realized it crashed my blood sugar really low n that would create a major seasick episode. My trick was chicken tenders n fries n then I would feel Ok. So be sure and don't skip any meals n even if you feel yucky from motion, eat anyway n u will feel much better. The CMs may recommend an apple too. So now if I want to get some exercise, I do it in the afternoon before dinner and I have less probs.

I have worn a patch before, don't know that it helped or did anything. I do keep Dramamine in my bathroom bag in case. Haven't had to use it in yrs, especially not on any of our bahamaian cruises. Of course, we had great weather so I can't speak for all situations.

And ladies, this may sound odd, but certain birth controls have made cruises torture or delight. I knew I was in trouble when I got vertigo doing a workout or tracking the ball in wallyball made me seasick...on land. Don't even get me started on my husband driving his truck... So I knew I was in trouble. I switched birth controls and the next day, just that quick, my motion sickness left...

If you are nervous about anything but sea sickness, u should be fine n have a blast! Make sure no one gets dehydrated because that's how u can get colds n sick. Get everyone on their vitamins up to it and or on it. Observe the clean hands policies n hand sanitizer n Disney tries hard too to keep people from getting sick.

Other than that, its the time of your lives!!!

I love feeling of being stuck out in the middle of the ocean. It's forced downtime and forced seclusion. No cell service, no email, no possibility of work, no bills to pay, no cooking, no cleaning, no family drama to deal with, plus there's round the clock free Childcare. Best and most relaxing vacation ever.

This. This. This. This. This. AND THIS!
OMG - the ability to COMPLETELY disconnect (from work. from email. from texts. from it all.) is such an incredible feeling. You don't realize how much of a time sucker technology is until you can't use it! DH and I were almost laughing at the folks that were buzzing with anticipation/excitement/whatever it was when we got to a port and they couldn't wait to turn their dang phone on.

I've never felt more connected to my family than I did while on our cruise 3 weeks ago. It was a beautiful thing.

As PP have said, you'll likely not even realize you're on a boat after a little while. You'll be so relaxed. You'll be breathing in that ocean air (and we all know the effects that has!). One of my favorite things is just to sit on the verandah and listen to the water gushing by. I know that doesn't help with the "not realizing you're on a boat thing, but it's an amazing feeling.

Go and have a great time!!!

Dh and I never wanted to cruise because of the fear of being out in the middle of the ocean (saw the Poseidon movie when I was little lol). Anyway, we finally tried a 4 day cruise on the Dream. And loved it! Best vacation for me, EVER. We took Bonine starting the day before the cruise and each day on the ship. My daughter felt ill one time the first day, so she took an extra Bonine and was fine after that. I actually felt worse after getting off the ship at the end of the cruise!

Anyway, weirdly enough... when I see cruise commercials on TV I still get that fearful feeling! But on the ship, it didn't bother me at all. And we're going on a longer cruise 8 weeks from today! Can't wait.

Have a great cruise!
Beth

We just went on our 1st cruise in April on the Magic. I was so nervous about being out in the ocean, seasickness, and about anything else you could think of. Once we got on the ship and started vacation I never thought about any of that the rest of the trip. We had a wonderful time.

Our first cruise was on the Dream 2 years ago and I swore I would never go on a cruise but my DW really wanted to try it so I gave in and told her lets just do a short 3-4 day in case we don't like it. So we booked it and I'll tell you what, I don't think I was ever that nervous the day we drove to port and I seen the Dream for the first time. I just had a fear of not being able to see land not so much being on the ship. That said 3-4 days is way to short we now have our 3rd cruise (7 day eastern) scheduled for Nov this year. We both really have fallen in love with cruising. Untill you do it you just won't know but highly recommend anyone to try it. You just can't imagine the beauty of the islands and how blue the ocean really is once your out a little ways. My DW gets motion sick on a plane so I was really concerned about that also but she took Bonine and had no issues or side effects. All in all just try to relax and enjoy! Once you leave port your fears WILL disappear.

We go on our Disney cruise in June and I am getting nervous this will be our first cruise, it will be me and my husband and our 2 daughters ages 8 and 4, I am just getting nervous about being on a boat in the middle of the ocean :(. Anyone else get nervous on their first cruise?

Yup! In fact if I could figure out how to post pictures here I could show you my kids' faces eating breakfast the first morning. They looked unsure and miserable. But, by middle of that day, they realized how very lucky their were and what a fantastic experience it is. Now, if we dare to make plans to vacation at WDW or DL, they are disappointed because they would like us to save our money for a Disney cruise!

A tour guide in st maarten said the friction from the waves crashing created (please forgive me for forgetting whether it was specifically negative or positive) ions that made us naturally happy and to breathe in as much as we could! Interesting.

YES.
I never wanted to go to an island because I don't like being confined so being on a ship in the middle of the ocean was something I was a little leery of. Once we got on and began to enjoy ourselves the fear went away quickly and I even enjoyed looking out over the open ocean.

I was a little nervous for our first cruise, but trust me - you will quickly get over it!!! It's the best feeling ever :) We did a 5 night Dream for our first one, and like others have said you will see several other ships. I started taking a pic of them, but then quickly realized I had too many pics of random ships! The ship is so big that you can quickly forget you're on it unless you look out.

For me, I'm 1093872974927 times more nervous about the flight to get to the ship!!!

I was never nervous but I can echo the sentiments of "falling in love" with cruising. Our first was 12 years ago, our honeymoon on the Disney Magic. I'm now a lot more traveled, but until going to college, I had never been more than 3-4 hours away from home. Nothing will replace, ever, the feeling of walking out on to the balcony at our first stop in St. Maarten and just being all giddy. After two glorious days at sea which were already awesome, I get to go to this amazing place that I've never been before.

I should have never gone on that first cruise because I'm now up to 18 cruises and by my calculations 123 days at sea. Of those, only two have been bad days (one was due to a little stomach issue and the other was due to very rough seas). If I could go 123 days in my normal life and only have two bad days, I'd take it in a heartbeat!
