Nervous

Our 1st ever cruise was on the Disney Magic and yes I may have been a little nervous but it was the anticipation of doing a different type of vacation.

Let me just say that as soon as we boarded we were just amazed and felt so comfortable. It was by far one of the best vacations ever and it's been 2 years and still talk about it all the time.

Just take a deep breath and just enjoy yourself! Have a wonderful time!

We are not even booked yet but I am SUPER nervous -- about feeling sick. I am SO WORRIED that I or my family will feel sick the entire time and vomit repeatedly. I know the majority cruise with no issues whatsoever but when I read about passengers feeling so sea sick they wanted to be airlifted from the ship, it scares the jeebies out of me!!

So, yes, I am NERVOUS, but not about sinking.

I hear they have motion sickness pills incase. I was thinking of not packing any meds, what do I think?

I was nervous about getting sick since I have a tendency to get motion sickness so I got the patch and put one on a day ahead of time. For all I know I wouldn't have gotten sick without it but I felt better knowing it would prevent me from getting sick. (I should have been nervous about getting land sickness after the cruise was over because that's what ended up knocking me on my butt for a few days.) After a couple of hours on the boat I stopped worrying about everything and just enjoyed being taken care of and pampered for eight days. :)

We are also going on our first DCL cruise in June. I am also really nervous. I have been on 2 cruises (but 10 years ago) but I am still really nervous about getting sea sick. I have a history of motion sickness. However, the last 2 cruises never really bothered me except mostly for the first night. But I am still scared to death I will be really sick this time! My b/f and son have never been on a cruise (although they have never been sea sick before) and I am completely nervous that they will be sick as well. I just don't want our time to be ruined after all this planning. I am now also nervous about sea lice after reading a thread on it! Between that and being nervous about our upcoming wedding in June- I am pretty much a nervous wreck 24/7!! Hopefully everything will be ok and we will have great vacations!!

I would add that sea days are now my favourite days! :goodvibes

Ditto!!!! Had 8 of them on our last cruise and everyone on my Dismeet felt OT wasn't enough!

The only problem with that is the fact that sea sickness is easier to prevent than get rid of. I start taking Bonine the day before we board the ship, then continue for at least three days afterwards to keep from getting the land leg feeling. Haven't had a problem. If I feel a bit queezy at dinner because of the motion when leaving a port I order gingerale and that helps.

We go on our Disney cruise in June and I am getting nervous this will be our first cruise, it will be me and my husband and our 2 daughters ages 8 and 4, I am just getting nervous about being on a boat in the middle of the ocean :(. Anyone else get nervous on their first cruise?

We did our first cruise ever this past August on the Dream. I was very nervous too since I get motion sick and never sailed before. I went to doctor and got sea sickness patch and was fine on board. The Dream was a great ship! There are so many activities its hard to decide which ones to do. We fell in love with cruising and are taking a 7 night cruise on the Fantasy this September. Be prepared to be addicted to cruising!

Thanks :) we are sailing June 20th on the Dream, I am very excited but also very nervous

the Dream is never really way out in the middle of the Ocean.
The route it sails is never all that far away from land.
you sail to nassau, then to Castaway Cay (which is very close to Nassau) and then back to port canaveral. Not very far and never very far from land.

Hi there,

My wife does not like ships, full stop. She has been known to get queasy whilst taking a ferry to she her sister on the Isle of Arran. That said we have done two, three or four week hols in the parks since 98 and I wanted to try something else. We booked a three day cruise to try, she hasn't looked back, we often do the longer cruises of 10 days or more and have more than 80 days under our belt so too speak and a further 5 cruises booked, this would not be happening it she did not feel completely safe and happy with the sea. Only once have we had bad seas when leaving CC and we stood and watched and she didn't mind this at all. On occasions when she has felt a swell, she takes tablets which are free from GS and outside the doctors office.

Its not has bad as the picture in your mind, I hope you can get passed this and go on to enjoy cruising as much as we do.

I can relate with the nervousness as well. I'm more worried about my daughter getting sick (not seasick, but resp illness), or my sister getting one of her migraines, my dad's back messing up on him, and my step mom not enjoying it. I will be fully stocked with all medications known to mankind, but I always worry about the "what if".

And with being out in the middle of nowhere, I'm ok with it...I think.

Did anyone have any side effects from the patch? I am using them for the first time on an upcoming cruise.

I didn't experience any side effects from the patch. The only glitch I had was the first night at dinner...I started to feel a little nauseous and noticed my patch was gone. Patch must have fallen off while on Aquaduck or shower.

I know people who have no effects except for dry mouth and then some who have lots of side effects. My doctor prescribed that the patch could be cut in half although some have said it should not. I am leary about the patch because I have vision issues already and one of the side effects relates to vision so would rather not resort to the patch. I was worried my first cruise also so fully stocked up..Bonine, Sea Bands, Ginger Candy and a patch prescription just in case. I was also nervous about being out int he ocean but figured the Pacific Coast cruise would hug the land..well, it didn't..we spent the first night going out into the Pacific before turning north. I took Bonine (the generic..meclazine..got a ton from Amazon for cheap) before even boarding and then took it the whole cruise. The only time the motion of the ship was really obvious was in the show theater (we were on the Wonder..I love that ship) and the shops by the theater..you could see the curtains swaying and it was a challenge once or twice to walk up the stairs feeling a bit off. My friend who cruises alot noticed the movement in the shops and commented on it..But really, it was fine, the Bonine had no effects (I even drank and never got drowsy) and it was a great time. We are sailing again in April and I am nervous again..Now we are going thorugh that big bad Gulf of Mexico out of Galveston and previous cruises sound like it has had some rough seas..and I feel like THAT cruise will be waaaaayy out in the water unike the Pacific cruise..so now I'm chiding myself for being nervous again. Of course I'll still have my arsenal of treatments and hope I only use the Bonine:)

Yep :) Our first several cruises I would get nervous in the weeks leading up to it. So much so that once or twice I considered canceling! But trust me, EVERY time I was so glad I didn't let the nerves get the best of me. Now I adore cruising. I can't think of a better time we've ever had together as a family!
