Was anyone else nervous about joining? We are on the verge of making the plunge, but have a few nerves about this. It all feels right, but like all big purchases there are still some slight hesitations.

Peace,
mg

I was a little nervous. But, I was also nervous when I bought my house. Having made the plunge we love it. It was one of the best purchases we have made. We joined in Oct '05 and have been on some great vacations. Good luck.:goodvibes

Not surprising...it's a big purchase as you say. Yes, we were a little hesitant but like you we did our homework and knew what we were buying into.

Just as importantly, we knew what we were NOT buying into...in other words, things like the perks which are gravy but didn't form the core of our decision.

I think that was important as perks come and go and change...it helps us keep satisfied with our purchase decision.

Good luck to you!! :)

Sure, like others have said, when you are laying out $15k, we're all nervous. We did all the research so that we made a well informed, not spontaneous, purchase. We love our decision and look forward to going to WDW twice a year. Good luck.

:scared: I'm right in there with you. I just put our deposit down on Tuesday for a contract at AKV. I haven't even received the paperwork yet and I'm still nervous about the whole affair.

However, any big purchase is stressfull, especially one with such long-term repercussions. We love the whole Disney experience and have been on a 15-18 month trip cycle for the last 10 years. We always wanted to go more often but hated having to search for the best deal each year and work around a promotional schedule just to feel like we were getting our money's worth.

We've been looking at DVC for years and it finally made sense for us (both financially and logistically) to take the plunge so we can start enjoying better accomodations, more often and for much longer than we would have ever dreamed.

I think every single DVC member was nervous at some point along their journey to becoming a member because any big decision like this takes planning & commitment :scared:

Nervous? Absolutely! I agree with Granny, just make sure you realize you are purchasing a timeshare and NOT a financial investment. We did it 3 years ago and have never looked back! I can't tell you how many wonderful memories we have developed with our kids!

Nervous and Excited !! Being from the WEST Coast we had to weigh the issues of "how often would we go ?" and airfares going up up up... Problem solved when we started using our Southwest card for everyday purchases;) we now average at about 4 round trip tickets per year :goodvibes that along with Annual passes make vacation VERY affordable. We are now heading to Florida and getting out of the snow twice a year. Bottom line, we would be going anyway so now we are just doing it a little smarter..

See you in Florida :flower3:

I know what you mean about the house - we moved from the suburbs to a house in the city - traded 2200 sq/ft for 1100 with a baby on the way (and it cost more). There were good reasons, but man, did I spend some sleepless nights. Long story short, now have a second floor, 2 kids and am absolutely ecstatic that we did it (and managed to keep a little mortgage).

I have been a memeber since '02 and just bought my second interest at AKL. I signed the papers and sent them back Monday but all weekend I was nervous.

I love DVC and know I will use all my points each year It just makes me a bit nervous spending so much money.

I know it will pass once I step onto the balcony at AKL

Nervous? I seriously thought I was going to throw up when I signed. Fortunately, I didn't and the manager of my bank was thankful (he was my notary). :rotfl:

Anything we do or buy in amounts more than the hundred's of dollars makes me queasy. When we bought the truck, I almost hurled too.

I told DH when we buy the house, it will probably be in his name only, because I won't be able to leave the bathroom to sign the mortgage! :)

Of course, I am mental. :dance3:

Congratulations... Looking forward to welcoming you home :thumbsup2

EDIT... OOPS wrong thread! I'm Sooo confused.

I certainly had a few nervous "have we done the right thing" weeks. When I realistically started to think about what my fears were and if we absolutely had to sell how much we would lose, it took away most of the worries. The excitement of planning the first and subsequent trips takes away any lingering worries.

Good luck

Yep I was a little bit. I was nervous when we bought our first house too. I think it is that whole thing of offically being a "grown-up", at least it was for me. I felt like such an adult :teeth: .

But we have not regreted it. Any large purchase makes me nervous.

I guess I am in the minority here as I wasn't nervous at all. I knew I had done my homework and knew what I was getting (and wasn't getting) and knew my history of vacationing there and was fairly certain in my future of continuing to go to WDW so it was a very logical decision for me.

I bought sight unseen at OKW through The Timeshare Store and was completely satisfied with the processes of the sale and service that I received and have no regrets (other than not buying sooner). I even had my first my contract ROFR'd but continued to with work with TTS and ended up getting a larger contract for a slightly lower cost than the original contract. I wasn’t and am still not sure how or why this made it through ROFR (same resort, more points, lower cost) but it did and I have been loving it ever since.

I was very nervous. I had chatted with a guide on and off for weeks, poured over resale listings and talked for hours with a friend who is a DVC member before placing our offer for a resale. We are waiting on ROFR, and I am STILL questioning whether we did the right thing! Actually, the questions are really more about did I do the right thing buying a resale vs. through Disney and did I buy at the right place. I'm starting to feel more comfortable with the purchase, just questioning if I bought at the right place and hoping that I get through closing in time to make a reservation for an October trip.

I can totally relate to what you are going through!

I've been mulling it over for almost a year. I put a deposit down on yesterday at SSR. I always get a little nervous with large transactions. But I did my homework and I feel good about this. I only wish I did it sooner. I feel it is a great value. I now know I can go back next year. I waited two years for my most recent trip. Plus the other locations look great and some are close to my home that I always wanted to see. Every DVC member I talked to seemed happy with there decision.

It took us about two years from the time we heard about DVC to when we bought our first VWL contract. We went one summer to WDW and went thru the preview and went back the following year and actually bought our points. This was after many questions here and reading everything I could here about DVC. Looking back on it now, I wish we had bought in 5 years earlier. Since then we've done two add-ons. It's been one of the best purchases we've ever made. We retired a year ago and it's very comforting to know that we can take at least 2-3 good vacations a year now until we can no longer travel and it won't cost us much money each time. Plus I really like the idea of being able to leave something like this to our two kids. I keep having this vision in my mind - it's 2040 and my grandchildren and great-grandchildren are down visiting AKV and one of them asks how is it we get to come to WDW every year and my grandchild replies we have your great-grandparents to thank for all this.
