Nervous...waiting for ivan in B'ham

I lived in Montgomery in the 80's and my best friend still lives in Wetumpka. I hope everyone is okay.

I finally heard from my twin sister (TwinAve) who lives in Panama City Beach Florida. While the worst of the hurricain has pasted them by, they did get a tornado on their STREET! Several houses very badly damaged, but they had no damage to the house (only lost a tree). A Resturant (Hamilton's) just a few blocks from them was VERY badly damaged. The tornado took off the roof of this very large building. The debis rained down all around them. They are without power, but due to the limited area of damage will have it back pretty quickly (we hope).
Continued prayers to all affected by this storm!

Almost getting used to the gusts (and I think that they are supposed to generally diminish throughout the day) but it just rains and rains and rains. Also, since it is so windy it seems to have found a weakness in some flashing on our home and we have a steady leak in our foyer. DH went into the crawl space on the second level and it isn't anything that you can put down a container to catch, it is blowing along a strip and gathering on a beam where it concentrates and drips.

Oh, well. It could be MUCH worse, and hopefully we won't often have rain blowing horizontally for hours so this won't be a regular problem! I just don't want to lose my crabapple tree which appears to be leaning a bit. It is very top heavy with fruit and I can easily imagine it being uprooted if the rain and wind gusts continue. Again, nothing compared to what others are dealing with. Heck, I still have electricity!

Hoping everyone else comes through this with minimal damage.

We're hanging on in Atl. The wind is howling away and I think we may float off the driveway! It's scary- I can only imagine a hurricane.... I'm very worried about our 9/19 cruise....
  :( :(

Thank goodness the storm had only minimal effects for us. We had minor roof damage and lost power for about 5 hours (Thank you Alabama Power!!) DD slept through the worst of the storm. Some people just a few miles down the road had to be evacuated from their apartments by BOAT! I have never seen such flooding. My heart goes out to all who were greatly affeted. I know Gulf Shores was completely destroyed and most people here are still without power. A big hello to all my Disney buddies here in the Magic City. It is nice to know we are surrounded by friends. Thanks again everyone and magical cruising.

Happy to hear you came through okay! Ivan's been dumping rain on us all day (by the buckets, it seems--we set a record for rainfall in a 24 hour period today--whoopee, huh?) and the wind just hit a little while ago. The boys keep running around looking out the windows at all the "stuff" blowing through our yard. We're supposedly getting gusts around 40+ MPH, but I live on top of a hill, so...luckily, flooding isn't a problem other than a little water seeping into the basement, but we've nothing to deflect the wind.

I really feel for those who've been subjected to the hurricane-force winds, severe flooding, and tornadoes. The damage I've been seeing on TV from Ivan seems incredible.

Ivan arrived in NJ around midnight last night. So far 2.17" of rain and more coming. Wind gust to 31.

Update:
We came out okay - a few tree branches down in our yard and our power was only out for about 3 hours. It could have been so much worse. My prayer go out to those harder hit. DH is working 16 hours/day to restore power - blessings to him and all those emergency workers who help us in time of need!
