My DH and I are in Birmingham, getting ready for Ivan to make landfall. I am very nervous since this hurricane has already spawned 12 tornadoes. Our neighborhood is notorious for damage when winds get strong. We have so many old trees surrounding our house. Luckily we have a basement to hole up in for the next 48 hours. To anyone else out there preparing for the storm...please stay safe. The tornadoes have already killed at least 2 people today. Keep us in your prayers. Thanks.

You and all those in Ivan's path are in our prayers.

I understand your concern even though we're in Texas. My in-laws are about 30 miles north of Fort Walton in Crestview. Fortunately high enough to not worry about flooding but I'll be glad when Ivan has passed and I know they escaped tornadoes and high wind.

Thinking about you from south Florida. We have friends in Birmingham, she just happens to be a nurse also.

Stay safe and keep us posted when you can.

Good luck. I'll be praying for you and the others in the path. We may have severe flooding here.

We are in Birmingham too......Hoover area! The wind is picking up and the rain is coming down. We are expecting the eye of the Ivan sometime this afternoon. We are very nervous also. Everyone stay safe and we are praying for everyone in the storms path.

Send us some pixie dust!:earsgirl:

Good luck to all of you!

Thank you all for your kind words. To my fellow Birminghamian, stay safe; I heard there are already trees doen in Vestavia. For now, we still have power, but we are expecting to lose it soon. There are already tornadoes throughout the state and the winds are picking up. I'll check back alter, power permitting.

Disnurse2b and minnieluzmickey,
I'm in Riverchase, it looks like we may get a break and things may not be as originally expected. We're on the 9/18 Magic and I'm just hoping that the airport is open tomorrow so that we can fly out of B'ham.

Prayers for all those in Ivan's path

We're down here in Alabaster with a planned trip to the Smokey Mountains this weekend. Don't know if that's going to happen, just depends upon how bad the weather gets.

We've got power and some strong winds bending trees way beyond what I'm used to seeing, but so far no downed trees yet.

At least we are some-what in a valley, so we aren't as exposed as some of those people who live on the top of the mountain in Vestavia.

Otherwise, my biggest consern right now is Jean. Looks like she's headed to the Bahammas. We're on the Magic next weekend and heard they just got CC ready for guest. I'm worried about Jean re-closing the Island. Guess I could have greater concerns.

We're over here about an hour and half east of you, also in the path of Ivan (Anniston/Oxford area). So far it hasn't reached us yet, so we're still waiting. I think I'm more worried about the tornados than anything else. My DH works for Alabama Power Co., so of course I won't see him for about a week or two. Please pray for safety for all emergency workers!

We are still hanging in there and still have power. keeping our fingers crossed. The wind is getting very scary though.

IrishCowboy-I am soooo jealous. I want to go on a cruise too. I was looking at your name and thought you might like irish music. Check out my dh's website......he is the piper

Everybody stay safe.

I am northeast of Birmingham. It is expect to hit hard here tonight. We are just waiting!! The wind is really picking up here too!!

Alabama Power is reporting that there are record numbers of customers without electricity in Alabama. I cannot believe that we still have power -- it always seems that we manage to lose it early and have it restored late (please don't let me have jinxed it now). Luckily we live on a bit of a rise and flooding is not a concern for us, although it is even for next door neighbors. And the pool is aaaalmost full. I am debating going out and backwashing out some of the water, but since it is raining horizontally I WILL get wet!

Hope everyone else in the Birmingham area is doing okay. It is just so odd to have this much effect from a hurricane, as far inland as we are........

God bless you all and keep you safe. We lived in Birmingham from 1979-82, and loved the grace and friendliness of the residents. Y'all be careful!

My DS is in Tuscaloosa. He's a freshman at the University Of Alabama. What a way to start the school year! He grew up here on the east coast with hurricanes. At least he's sort of prepared with a generator and supplies. So far the power has flickered on and off.

The water is now coming through the windows in his apartment.

Stay safe. You all are in our thoughts.
