DS's school choir is competing at Orlando Music Fest tomorrow. They'll be in the MK in about three hours. Sat. they will be at Universal and Sunday at MGM. He's a freshman, and being an Aspie, does not really have good friends in the choir. I'm so nervous...will he lose his ticket? Will he remember to bring money with him every day? Will the other boys think he's a total nut (esp. after his Concerta wears off each evening)?

Ok, Deep Breath........ in, and out.....maybe a couple more might be a good idea!!

I don't think we ever stop worrying about our kids do we? I think that its great that he wanted to go and do this, and I think you are a great mom for letting him! I know you will continue to worry, thats just part of the job! But you know there are chaperones and I'm sure you've spoken with them beforehand so he will be fine and hopefully have the best time ever!!!! I think that this could be a great opportunity for the other kids to get to know him better too, he might make some more friends by spending all this time together?

Just remember to breath when the panic starts to rise! ;)

Let us know how it went when he gets back!!

Thanks for your support. I thought about being a chaperone, but I knew that if I did, he would hang out only with me. We spent 10 days at WDW last May/June, so I'm hoping that since it's familiar to him, he'll do fine. (Plus, if he can show the other kids the beauty of Fast Pass, it may enhance his status a bit.)

I hope one day to have that for my daughter.. She is 8 now..
Im crossing my fingers for you! Im sure he will do Fine!
Keep us updated

My DH couldn't stand it anymore and called him on his cell phone. He and two other boys had already ridden Space Mountain and had Fast Passes for Big Thunder Mountain...they were in a restaurant "making plans." Yea for him! :goodvibes

Hooray!!!! He will have an awesome time and everything will be fine.

Hi - My prayers and admiration are with you and your son. My DS is 14 and has Asperger's, is very familiar with WDW but I don't know if I'll ever get to the point of being so courageous as to let him go...of course one day I must..

:grouphug: Thank you for sharing - we are with you 100% and can't wait to find out how it was for him!!!

Okay, DS is back home safe and sound. The trip went pretty well. He learned a lot about group dynamics, which is valuable for him. On the first day he was with two guys who were "too cool" to ride a lot of the rides; he was frustrated (although he did teach them how to use Fast Pass). On the second day he was at Universal and that went a bit better. On the final park day he was at MGM in a group of 7. He was the one "in charge" (the "Mom" as he called it) because he knew the park.

A couple of funny things. One of the kids in his group of 7 was very ADD and had run out of pills the day before. DS said "Boy, now I see what I must be like without my pills". (DS is VERY ADD.)

DS was describing one of the bus rides...how someone else took his seat, so he had to sit next to this girl, and how he taught the girl how to play his game boy game, and then how he shared his iPod with her. It sounded SO much to us like she was flirting with him, but DS is so oblivious about girls that he certainly never would pick up on anything like that.

Okay so is it completely insane that I am crying. I just saw this post tonight so I got to read the entire thing.

I dream of this for my son. He is almost 10 now but to think he could participate like your great son and be successful at it, is all I want for him.

Kudos to you for being brave enough to send him off without you....and for doing such a great job with him. Congratulations to you all and thanks for a glimpse into what is possible in our future.

I was reading this thread holding my breath!

Well done to all of you. I know how parents of NT kids tell us not to fuss that its the same for all parents etc etc. I have an AS ADD son and a NT DD and I don't worry the same way about DD. Your DS did so well and how sweet he sounds :goodvibes . It will be a great memory for him.

missypie- it sounds like your DS had a great adventure and handled it very well! Cheers!

Didn't get to read this until now.
Sounds like he had a great adventure. :thumbsup2
