I'm 37 and I had an EKG today. I'm also being scheduled for an echocardiogram . I've always known I had a heart murmur. The Navy tried to disqualify me when I went to join, but I fought it and had the echocardiogram and was cleared. They said I just had a noisy heartbeat-no defects.

I went in to the dr because I have been having trouble breathing and my heart has been racing. My pulse was 128. I have been taking over the counter stuff for allergies, so we figured that might be the cause, and I do have a sinus infection. HOWEVER, the dr said I don't have one murmur, I have TWO. He was listening for a VERY LONG TIME.

Soooo, he tells me not to worry, but of course, I do. He just called to tell me he read the EKG. It looks ok, but fast. He has already referred me to a cardiologist and told me to expect a call to set up an appt tomorrow. The dr called me at home. This is a military medical facility. Nothing moves that fast. So of course now I am wondering what he isn't telling me.

Just needed to tell someone. I am the rock in this family. If I tell my husband my worries he will stress out more than I will. He knows about the EKG, and everything, but I just made it sound like the dr was being thorough.

:grouphug: I spent a good month in test result limbo, and it isn't fun. :grouphug:

Don't be nervous about the echo..It's a non-invasive ultrasound type test...I have Tachycardia(fast pulse) from the cariomyopathy..I take Altenolol to control it and it keeps my pulse nice and regulated..Mine wasat 155 when they caught it...DO you have trouble when lying down ? When exercising,or just in general? try not to panic or worry too much..

i have a lot of problems while exercising and laying down. but my doctor tells me it's nothing. he diagnosed me with exercise induced asthma because i have a hard time breathing when i do strenous things, but it's not really that, it's my heart it races like crazy.

and i get these spells where i'm just sitting/laying/standing doing a whole lot of nothing and then all of a sudden my heart will just start pounding like crazy. usually it only lasts for a few seconds. once it lasted for about 15 minutes. i went to the hospital, they said nothing was wrong. they caught my pulse at about 125 or so, and my normal resting heart rate is around 90 or so. and my doctor(regular, cardiologist, pulminary specialst) tell me nothings wrong, and just to stay away from caffiene. that's great and all, but what i have is definatly not "normal"

to the OP, your doctor would have phoned you asap and let you know if anything was SERIOUSLY wrong. but he might see something a little off and that's why he/she wants you to go see someone else just to make sure. i know it's stupid to say, but try not to worry TOO much!

Saying a prayer that everything turns out fine. :grouphug:

!
Somtimes having trouble while lying down is a symptom of congestive heart failure..Liquid pools in the lung..It was after I night in which I slept sittiing up,that I went to the doctor and found out I was in CHF..Of course that's not the only cause.

So of course now I am wondering what he isn't telling me.

Sending good thoughts your way. :wizard:

I think if it were very serious, he would have admitted you right away for tests. It's something that needs to be looked at, but not an emergency. I hope you'll be able to relax while you wait. If I were you, I'd call the same doctor back tomorrow and tell him how nervous you are about all this. I'm sure he'll reassure you that everything is or will be under control.

i'm thinking about going to see another physician anyway. when i told him that i have problems sleeping(i go for days without sleep) he looked at me and said "You know, Kristy, sleeplessness is a sign of depression. is there anything you want to talk about?" ......... :confused3

no....just that i would like to sleep once in a while.

the problems while laying down doesn't happen all the time, so i don't think it's CHF, but i do think there's something wrong, so like i said, time for a new doctor.

Best wishes to you. One thing I do know since my uncle had a heart transplant and most of my family has had every sort of heart ailment known to man is that heart problems nowadays are not as hard to fix in the past. They have a great success rate treating most things when caught in time.

I totally agree with this..They would not mess around if this was an acute issue

If your heart is not pumping well you can be effected by certain things..Watch for patterns with the sleeping issues..Check and see if your rings feel tighter those days,or if your ankles are swollen ..I can always tell if I'm retaining fluids..Caffeine, Salt etc can also effect it if it's fluid related
I would get a second opinion

:grouphug: Heart problems are not fun...but like someone else said, they are often very treatable these days.

My son had open heart surgery a year and a half ago and came through like a champ.

I am on heart meds now too (Atenelol) because I have hundreds of skipped beats a day (PVC's)...even with the meds I still have alot. One thing I've learned from them is if I worry about it I feel alot worse.

So get a tall glass of water and go lay down in bed and try not to worry!

Jenny, I am just worried about the what ifs. I had an echocardiogram when the MEPS sent me to a cardiologist to be cleared to enlist, so I know it isn't a procedure to worry about as far as what is involved.

My breathing problems have been very recent and they could be related to the whole sinus issue. I have just been very worried due to the racing heart. It happens at all times during the day.

I have a really rotten medical family tree. Both parents died very young due to medical problems. One at 48, one at 50 to a stroke. I have never had any medical problems so this whole thing has really freaked me out.

Thanks for the good thoughts everyone.

That sounds a lot like my family history. :grouphug:
