We have an annual pass and I plan to try and see everything at DL. DD and Dh mentioned the sub ride . How small is the inside. For some reason i'm feeling a lil axiety just thinking about it. I went on it years ago when i was 19 or 20 but as I got older I find myself getting a lil nervous. At WDW i went on a ride it was a space shuttle type thing you are in space flying around. Its small inside 3 sitter but its tight. I felt a lil nervous and scared i was gonna freakout but didnt but I did almost got off before door closed so i'm not sure i'm clastophobic. I wouldnt go on it again though-lol!

Will i be ok on the sub ride????????????????????

I feel the same way! So instead, there is a little room that is large and roomy that you can go and have the same 'experience' as those in the sub. When you are in line, just ask to go to the 'viewing room' versus the sub. Much better experience and great for lil infants. They can move about and not get stuck inside a small crawl space area. :3dglasses

I would say the seating is similar to Mission Space, that is from how close to the other people. The subs don't have arm rests. To a large extent though you won't notice because you will be looking out your personal portal the whole time.

There is an option. There is a special room for people who can't get in the subs. Some people who have claustrophobia also use it. The room has audio and video of the ride. Allowing you to view in a more open place. Just ask a CM and they will guide you to it.

ok thank you. Just readint his is giving me anxiety- wow i cant believe this. I hope i never need an MRI cuz I'd be i ntrouble

It's called Marine Observation Outpost.

I've done it a couple of times when I couldn't get on the subs due to my leg. It's really a great alternative.

Has anyone done both? Is the observation area as "good" as the regular ride?

I'm claustrophobic and I remember being REALLY ready to get off the sub by the end the last time I rode it. It would be nice to have another option, if the ride is virtually the same.

I've done both. Like the outpost much better. I don't easily get claustrophobic, but the sub was hard for me.

It is virtually the same ride, yes.

I don't even get that claustrophobic and I hated Nemo, it felt so stuffy inside the sub! I would definitely do the viewing room instead next time!

Wow...i did not know about this...I have a 4yo who has some sensory issues and I've never attempted the ride with him bec of it!

Whats the viewing area like? Is it dark? Are u watching a big screen? Can u leave at any time? I'd love to know!!

The viewing area is pretty big - it's set up inside to look sort of like a sub, just not as tight as the subs. It is dark and you are watching a big screen.

DH and I are both claustrophobic and we liked it. There is a door on either end of the "room" - one is for entering, the other is for exiting. You could leave at any time, especially if your family is with you. There isn't a CM in the room with you and you can stand up and move around if you need to since you aren't belted in or anything.

We all liked it - but don't feel a great need to do it again. Our younger kids love the subs - but ended up riding with a nice lady in line behind my husband when he tried to take them on and had an anxiety attack just before they got in. :lmao: He felt really bad, but the lady was soooo nice. She was there with her grown up daughter and they were super cool about it!

I would encourage the viewing area. Just go up to the front and ask the CM - don't wait in the whole line. They can usually accommodate you when the next sub loads and you watch the same thing as everyone else. It took us 2 cycles of loading the sub before the CM could get us in - but I think they were a little short handed.

I would say it is a don't do. The ride is long and you are trapped in there until it is over. Obviously if you have an emergency they would stop the ride, but I would not recommend it. Totally check out the viewing room and if you love that then you might work up to going on the subs.

There is a link I found http://themeparks.about.com/od/disneylandphotogallery
that contains a picture of the inside of the sub. The seats fold down. But your going to be packed in there. Your pretty close to the other person, if your shoulders arnt touching. The sub is about double that length, but when you get into the ride you really forget that your packed in there.

I had a hard time with it. It's a very tight space with lots of people. But we also had several crying babies, with stinky diapers plus I think a few adults farted in our sub as well. It was loud, cramped and nasty. It triggered my motion sickness.

farting adult-sorry made me crack up. It wouldnt have been funny if i was there cuz then you would have a freaked out gagging , vomiting woman-lol!
Did i mention i get grossed out easily :(

When i went on the ride many moons ago i was about 120lbs and not I'm 209lbs so i better skip this ride and do the veiwing room. At 120 lbs i felt cram so at 209 i will feel awful.

I toally had a panic attack at this ride in October and took the "exit stage left" option at the last minute with my daughter. Just reading this thread has me sweating! lol

This is why I dislike Nemo. Every time I've been on it someone farts and of course there is no getting away from it.
