Nemo Ride :

Does anyone know if it's wheelchair accessible ? :listen:

Short answer, don't know yet.

I've read quite a few threads across the net about the ride, and although this question has been asked in almost every thread, no answers yet. :confused3

The pics on allears seem to show the same load area as the old Sea Cabs: omni mover ride system that does not stop, and the moving sidewalk. The ride vehicles face sideways (relative to the direction of travel) unlike the Sea Cabs which faced forward. But you'll still have to deal with the moving sidewalk shuffle.

Unless there is a HC loading area that has not been mentioned yet, it does not look good.

Yes it is, the car is something like Buzz Lightyear. I'll have a more complete repot in a bit.

If the car is like Buzz Lightyear then my chair will not fit. I did not fit in the new "Journey to Imagination" ride car either that was supposed to be for wheelchairs. Oh well..I'm used to disappointment. ---Kathy

That is what I have been told.
We just got back from WDW, but did not see the ride because they were not doing any previews one day while we were there. On our last days, they were doing cast member previews, so it was not open to anyone else. A CM who had seen it told us it was wheelchair accessible.

The Omni mover systems can be slowed or stopped for loading wheelchairs on the ride cars like Buzz Lightyear if they need to be. Back in the old days of the original Sea Cabs, our DD rode them several times (we lifted her out of her wheelchair) and the CMs were able to slow the omnimover.
The Buzz ride, Imagination and Winnie the Pooh actually have a ramp built right into a dedicated wheelchair ride car. I would expect the same thing for the new Clam Cars. The wheelchair car may be the same size as the regular ones are, or some of the dedicated wheelchair cars are the same width as a regular car, but longer.
For Imagination and Pooh, the ride is stopped, but Buzz Lightyear has an omnimover system and several times a very efficient CM has lowered the ramp, loaded the wheelchair and put the ramp back into place without even slowing the moving walkway. Some of the wheelchair cars also make use of rotating turntables inside the ride to get the wheelchair facing forwards. Since the new clam cars face sideways, they wouldn't have to do that step.

Please tell me why your chair would not fit, I'm alittle weary now because my dd has a much bigger chair this time around, is that the problem ?

I could be wrong, but the wheelchair car for Nemo looked bigger then the one for Buzz.

We rode today. I didn't see the wheelchair car, but there was a wheelchair guest in front of us but when we got to the moving sidewalk, he was taken in a different direction. The ride was cute.

Length of the chairs is more of a problem than width is. How big is your DD's chair?

We did some measuring and it's actually just wider than her last wheelchair I beleive that if I take off her bookbag in the back she should be ok. :thumbsup2

My DD's wheelchair (without her bookbag) is 43 inches long from the back tires to the tips of her toes and 24 inches wide. She most often rode with her backpack on and had no problems. It is a manual Quickie wheelchair.

EDITED TO ADD: DD has not ridden on the new Nemo ride yet, but has been on all the wheelchair accessible ride cars in WDW.

Found this on another forum:

"The ride is wheelchair accessible and goes into a slow creep mode that seems to work pretty well. I only had to watch the scene before me repeat twice. The wheelchair clamshell is just a little wider looking. ECV's have to transfer to a standard wheelchair or walk on. The full queue is ECV accessible and i saw several going through - the only problem i noted is that it is extremely dark when you first enter the zig-zag from outside, once inside it's not a problem that first turn is just hard until your eyes adjust, even walking."

thanks for copying that.

I'm so glad they did the right thing and have a vehicle that chairs can be brought straight on to. It makes it even easier for me to build up the magic with my niece when I bring her down to see it next year, because although she never complains about being transfered I know how much easier it is for her not to.

Yay!

We went on the ride yesterday, and the wheelchair clam shell will NOT take a wide base chair. The width of the ramp is smaller than Buzz, but there is more room once you are inside, there is also one seat for a campanion. We had to do a transfer in to a Disney chair. Disney do not cater for the wide based chairs, there are no toilets that it can fit into, yet it will go on Buzz and Figment!!!

Would you mind clarifying what you mean by a 'wide base chair'?
Do you happen to know about how wide the chair was that didn't fit?

Thank you.

Wide base is the angle of the camber that the wheels are at, ie. the bigger the camber, the less you have to push so therefore less shoulder injury. My chair is 36" from push rim to push rim.

Thanks.
My DD's manual chair is angled out a bit, but not that much.
