My neighbor is such a jerk. I'm trying to be nice but this guy just gets on my every last nerve. He's been nasty to us since we've moved in here despite the fact that we are very civil to him. My understanding is that he was this way with the people we bought the house from as well.

Anyways, first let me say I love animals. I would never intentionally ever want to see one hurt or suffer. That said, this guy started by feeding every single stray cat that came around. He'd leave bowls of food outside all over his front lawn. Then he added bird feeders which I think are great. Well, one became two, then two became--you get it.

We've got outside to find peanut shells thrown all over (which just blow on to our lawn, etc.). Now he's not content. He still does all the above, but now he's added throwing bird seed and bread all over the ground. He has a huge, huge Xmas tree and all you see if this stuff. First, it looks bad between the bowls, seed, etc.

Now he's feeding the local ducks. We started with one or two and as of now, it's grown to "HUNDREDS." No I'm not kidding. I'm tired of going outside and finding duck *^%%^ all over my car, etc. There have been times my doors and windows are covered in it.

More importantly, they are obviously leaving feces behind and I'm worried about the attraction of rodents! Now, we don't live in a rural setting. In fact, our homes are very close together. Now he's attracting deer. My husband almost hit one pulling in our driveway the other night. He never saw it standing in our driveway while another was eating the damn bird seed.

He doesn't give a darn at all. There's absolutely no sense talking to him. We've called the town we live in and there are no ordinances in place at all so they won't do a darn thing.

I've had it! I'm totally fed up. They will be here all winter and more will be attracted at this rate. You can't even drive up our street because the ducks won't move!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My dog goes nuts each time he sees them and the ducks aren't even afraid of him!

What can I do????? Anyone have any suggestions at all. I don't want to hurt them--just move them or make him stop putting food out.

I'm just fed up!

Michele

you could light some firecrackers to get rid of the ducks I guess. That's really a health hazard.

Call your local gaming association or wildlife control. see if there is anything they can do or if they can suggest a home remedy that will keep them off your property at least.

Wow. How bizarre is that? No suggestions for your Dr. Doolittle problem, but good luck anyway. I'd hate living next to that.

you could dress up like Elmer Fudd and pretend to go duck hunting. :)

Get a dog, like a lab. They love chasing animals!!!!

Geese/ducks are difficult to keep off of your property, especially if you have a pond nearby.

I was going to say get a dog and let it outside whenever you see ducks or animals... they'll move along.

Nix the dog idea. I have a lab. They used to fly away the minute I'd open the door and let him into the yard. Now, it doesn't even phase them that he's out barking at them. He is also getting use to seeing them there as well so he's not been much help. I actually got out of my car this afternoon and there were about 25 or so within 10 feet of me--they did not budge!!!!!!! I thought for sure once I opened the door, they would fly away. I will say this much--I'm almost enjoying watching my other neighbors try and drive down the street. It's a game of dodge the duck!

I don't know if these ducks are smart or dumb? They just won't budge for anything. I also have to be careful, as my neighbor would not think twice to call the police on us if I did something evenly slightly wrong. This is the same guy that called the police on us during a blizzard and 20" plus of snow and complained we were blowing it on his property and house. The police had to come out and complete a report despite a travel ban because of this moron. Sorry--I shouldn't be namecalling but this guy is a piece of work.

P.S. Don't cut a single blade of grass on his side of the lawn either--he goes balistic! I have to drive my daughter to school daily (she's 17) because he retired early and stares at her as she waits for the bus (the stop is not directly in front of our house). We've also had to put up a privacy fence because he would stare at her when she played basketball in the driveway. Let's just say the guy's got problems, he's nosey, he's a loud-mouth, he's ignorant, and I hope he's not a %$*#.

She already has a dog though.

There is something that you can put on your gardens to keep deer away for sure. Go to your local garden center or Home Depot type place and ask them. I bet they would have some good ideas.

I like the firecrackers idea myself. If he can feed every animal in creation, you can celebrate in style, right?

I must admit--I'm starting to have a little "fun" with this thread. I like the firecracker idea myself. Too bad they are illegal in NYS. Now, I don't want to get any animal lovers mad at me or anything. What I'd really like to do is to "blow him up!" Oops--me bad!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ziplock bag + baking soda. Throw in some vinegar, seal it up fast and it should be loud enough to scare them away.

:cool1: And if you put the baking soda into a Kleenex--kind of wrap it up--with the vinegar already in the bag, it gives you a little more time. Make sure you buy the real ziplocs though, those generic jobbies don't hold well enough to make a bang. Turns out to be just a little pop.

I would check with your local animal control or game warden - in a lot of areas (at least around here) you aren't allowed to feed ducks and geese. Big signs everywhere - has to do with messing up their migration patterns.

If that isn't helpful I would call the Department of Health - that much bird poo isn't healthy

We have called Animal Control several times. There is no local ordinance so they won't do a darn thing. We've also called the local SPCA. They won't get involved except they would write him a letter telling him the "reasons not to be the ducks." Little good I am afraid that would do.

I'm amazed at the Ziploc bag idea! I might have to tuck that one away and try it. We have no local Wildlife/Game Warden to contact. I must admit, I never thought about the health department. I will definitely try there next week. Since we have snow on the ground right now, I'm not sure what any chemical would do to eleviate the situation. I am going to try and get to Home Depot and see if they can recommend anything. I don't want to hurt the ducks, just don't want them in the neighborhood.

Thanks everyone!

Great idea. :D

Another thought would be a local office (either state or federal) of the Environmental Protection Agency :)

I can tell you right now, feeding the ducks and promoting them coming to that area in no way is against the law.

Nothing will happen.
