Negotiating & General confusion about the incentives

I'm just wondering if anyone was able to negotiate with Disney for a slightly better deal than the incentives?

We are just about to take the plunge but I'd like a little more than the incentives. Although, I'm still confused about how the AK2 incentive works.

The way my guide explained it to me, if I buy into AK2 right now there are no 08 pts but rather the SSR pts replace the 08 pts. I seem to recall reading that someone bought into a June UY so they rec'd the 08 pts & the SSR pts. I'm ready to buy in if I can get that deal as well. Am I dreaming that I may be able to negotiate this? What is the true deal?

Any info is appreciated.

From what I understand, they are selling AKV2 points for property that doesn't exist yet. It is still being built. That's why you can only stay at SSR in 2008. When the new AKV units are available for occupancy, the SSR stay will go away. There may still be some Jambo units available for sale direct or resale.

They will not negotiate anything with you they dont have to .They are giving you SSR points to use now and then you do get 08 points but they cannot be used till 09 and then you get the 09 points to. So I am not sure what else that you would want from them.

That's just it, my guide said no 08 pts since AK2 doesn't exist yet. I don't care when I use them, I just want the set of 08 pts. It makes the deal much more attractive. Plus b/c that was how I originally interpreted the incentive, I feel like I'm losing out now.

When DH and I toured SSR in Dec of 06, we were going to get 2006 and 2007 points with a Dec UY. To me, unless I'm misunderstanding, Dis is giving you 2008 SSR points instead of AKV. Since 08 AKV points aren't available, they aren't leaving you high and dry, they are just giving you points to another resort. This seems pretty standard for Dis.

From my personal experience, Dis will not negotiate at all. I tried to get them to waive closing costs (they had just started charging them), and I was flat out told, "Unfortunately, we can't waive fees or negotiate on price. Please take the materials and think about it over the next few days." If you're looking to wheel and deal, go the resale route. If you're heart is set on buying at AKV, go through Dis. You'll have a hard time finding a loaded AKV contract via resale. But if you would consider another resort, you can get great deals if you look often enough and are willing to pull the trigger immediately when you find one. They get snapped up quickly!

I'm sorry about your experience, though. There's nothing like thinking you're getting something only to find out that's not the case! Best of luck with your decision!!! Bottom line, I'm so glad we purchased!

That's one of my biggest pet peeves. Different deals for different people. On a cruse, you get a certain deal, buying at Disneyland, a different deal, buy from the Doorway to Dreams team and get another deal, from WDW still another, and buy from your Guide over the phone, the worst deal.

Thanks everyone. I'm not a big negotiator at all so I had to ask to save me the embarassment of trying. I will speak to my guide again today to make sure I have everything correct.

There is no negotiating.

As far as the current AKV incentive, if you have a UY before May, then you will not get 2008 UY AK2 points. If you have a use year after April, then I BELIEVE that you will get 2008 UY AK2 points. One person with a June UY reported getting them.

AK2 is Kidani Village.

We are also on the verge of buying and for us it would be over the phone. So, I am curious why is buying over the phone the worst deal????

Because you are going to them. They don't need to sweeten the deal. If the fish are jumping on the hook, why bother buying bait?

Nothing! I think this is a total myth. You may get a free extra tote (worth $10) or an extra memory album (worth $50)? But nothing substantial. If you want those goodies, just ask your rep over the phone. I asked for 2 APs that I heard were given out at WDW but not DL sales. She said no problem. Easy as pie.

As for major negotiating or difference in price, there aint any difference. Katherine

Your asking was negotiating. Sometimes there will be different offers available, and it makes sense to know what they are and insist on the "best" one. At other times, they will all be essentially the same.

That is correct - we got June 2008 UY points and then the developer points as well.

For us to get the free AP we would have had to go to Chicago Doorway to Dreams. Keep in mind as well that we asked for June UY because that is what we currently have with our VWL. I believe if you get same UY its just an add on and not a new master contract. Good Luck!!

I agree or buying in California but thats about it and I dont know if they are even offering anything like that now.
The developer points to use now and then getting 2008 points is a good deal though.Becuase if nothing else you could rent those points out and make more than the APs would be worth.

Two AP's sound great! I asked mine if he could throw in passes for the week and he said no. They can't do anything other than what is offered for everyone else. He did go further telling me more about SSR since we had been talking about AK. He said there was $500 GC, 2007 points that you can use anywhere instead of the developer points from AK that had to be used at SSR and 2008 points with only about half of the dues. Now we are leaning more towards SSR - still thinking one more night and hoping to make a decision and buy tomorrow!!!!
