We dined at 'Ohana Monday night. Our ADR was at 5:00. We had no problems....we checked in at 4:50, waited our 10 minutes and were taken back to a nice table by the windows with a view of the grill also. Our server was Bernie.
Here's our problem: the service was terrible. We've eaten here yearly for 4 years. I knew about the menu changes. Not a problem. Bernie took our drink orders and returned in a timely manner with the drinks. Eric brought out the wonton chips and dips. The salad came in a large bowl at the same time. This is all fine. We were disappointed in the loss of the wontons (in place of the chips), but my kids loved the chips. They were crisp, tasty, and a little salty. The salad was enjoyable.
Then Eric came over with steak and pork. At this time, I'm happy. The meat is making up for the loss of wontons. The flavors of the steak and pork were delicious. It's at this time that I notice my husband. He has received a defective piece of steak. Not thoroughly cooked and he said he couldn't even get his knife through it. Because I was wallowing in the good flavors on my plate, I hadn't noticed this incident with DH's piece of steak.

Well, then we sat for quite a while. It became a sort of game to time how long we would be neglected by Bernie and Eric. Eventually Eric came around with Turkey and Sausage. My turkey was raw, folks. Not cooked. I showed it to Bernie when she finally came around with the potatoes and veggies. Bernie said, "yep, wow, that's not cooked. I'll go show it to the guys", meaning the grill guys. She did apologize. I stopped eating. There was never an offer to remove my dinner from the bill. We waited again. Our plates were now empty and no one ever cleared our table along the way. We were sitting in an array of dirty plates of half eaten raw meat for 20 minutes. Yes, I'm trying to make it comical. This wasn't fun and we weren't pleased with waiting and waiting and waiting and waiting. Finally, Bernie offered to bring out dessert. We also asked for our check. We didn't want to wait 20 minutes for her to come back and offer to bring us a bill.

Overall, it started out fine and went downhill quickly. The service was confusing. Who was our server....Bernie or Eric???? It was a sort of comic tag team that I notice was happening. 'Ohana needs to hire more staff. (and cook the meat thoroughly before serving it.) The tables around us were getting restless, too. In the servers defense, I never saw Bernie or Eric standing aroung, twiddling their thumbs. They were clearly over-worked and short staffed. Considering we really used to enjoy our meals here, we were sooooooo disappointed. :guilty:
Also, the timing isn't down with this new menu, which, IMO, isn't so new anymore. Hasn't been in place over 6 months? What ever happened to getting the side dishes with your main dish? The potatoes and veggies came so late. Ugh! Given the loss of the old menu and our poor service, (and 2 pieces of raw meat!), we don't plan to return any time soon.

Flame away if you must. We've eaten here often. This was an incredibly bad night!

We had planned on eating at Ohana durning our recent trip but I started reading a trend of neg. reviews and since the menu didn't really thrill me, I switched to Kona Cafe. It was my best meal of our 13 night trip!! Except for Garden Grill, it was the only place that great service and great food!! I'm glad we switched and sorry you had a bad meal. Raw meat would have been a deal breaker for me!! Sounds like the ones that needs the flames would be Ohana to cook there dry meat longer!! :)

No flaming here. I wasn't there with you, so I say you are entitled to your opinion.

I had a great experience there last Saturday night. Certain nights can have different feelings. I think people in general judge meals at Disney more harshly because you only eat there every so often. It's not like eating at a restaurant near home.

Sorry you had a bad experience, though.

I've eaten at 'Ohana twice before, and both times I was very impressed with the service and the food. Now that I've been reading about all the changes to the menu and the service/food quality going down hill, I've cancelled my ressie there for a first night (travel day) meal in favor of Chef Mickey's. Hopefully they'll figure it out before our next trip, I really did enjoy dining there.

We had a similarly bad experience last Sept.... and it was the new menu so the new menu has been in place almost a year... longer than 6 mos!

We rarely saw our "cousin".... she never came to see if we wanted seconds and the only meat I found edible was my undercooked steak. I would have eaten more but by the time she finally came to check on us I was ready to go....

I left very hungry.. a restaurant I was so excited and totally expecting to be overfull!

We were also disappointed that while our reservations were for about 7 (I don't remember the time it was a while back).. we wanted to see the water parade and asked for a window seat. We waited over an hour extra for a window seat.. only to be seated WAY far away from the windows ... and there were empty window seats people who hadn't been waiting as long were seated at. We could've been done eating and watched wishes from outside but were told to wait extra for the seats... a few even sat empty during the actual show. QUITE disappointing.

Sorry about your bad experience - we had a similiar experience last october - although we had a wonderful time, dd's had so much fun, food was great, service was something to be desired. We were with another family, so we were a large party and the food would go quickly as soon as they put it on the table - and they were S-L-O-W in replacing the food. We are going back in August because we had such a good time, hopefully the service will be a little better

We ate there last October and again in March. I actually found that our meat was very OVERcooked - really dry turkey and steak.

Still, I most definitely did not leave hungry... (too much bread pudding!)

While we loved the atmosphere and most of the food, I agree that the service does leave something to be desired. We had the same problems - we never saw our "cousins", there didn't seem to be any logic to when the food was brought to us, our dirty plates were left sitting on the table through the entire meal, we couldn't get refills on drinks or the check, etc. They definitely need to improve the service aspect of the "experience" there. We will return in December, but if we get the same level of service as the previous two trips it may be our last for a while.

I know, as long as people like me keep going back, they won't have any reason to change... But I love that bread pudding!

We had eaten at 'Ohana about 8 times before last Dec. 27. Our meals and service had always been good to very good. On Dec. 27 our service was non-existent. We just plain couldn't get waited on after the first offerings. I wish I could tell you about the bread pudding and the meats. After about an hour I went to the check-in desk and ask for the bill. I told them what had happened or didn't happen and paid the bill. I just wanted to get out of the place and wasn't looking for anything free. I don't like to complain a lot and then get the food, because the chances are good that some nasty things could happen to the meal. When I checked out the girl didn't seem to care and I was told the manager wasn't available. I wrote a letter to WDW guest services and got back a form type letter.

We were at table 7. Since we won't be going back to 'Ohana this will open-up a couple of reservations per year for others.

Wow, I''m really surprised. We ate at 'Ohana's for the first time last Dec. and the service was wonderful. We recommended it to friends who went a few months later and they also said it was very good. Our service was so outstanding that it is the only restaurant where I remember my server's name, Cousin Cliff! We had our two year old with us and Cliff was so wonderful to her. We were there over an hour but that was because DH just kept eating. Once our chips and salad were brought we never waited for any food or refills, and we ordered extra of several things. It's too bad to read our experience isn't the norm I guess....

We had a great time in Sept 05 at Ohanas

so much so that it is the ONLY TS place we are repeating in August. We had so much food we could hardly walk out of the place that night!!! Everybody has different experiences I suppose. Thanks for the review and we will keep an eye on it and report back in August. They really should have done something with the meat if it were raw, esp turkey. That is dangerous. The steak I had was medium rare when we went and it was GREAT! I think a all you can eat steak meal would be hard because you do not get to order the steak how you want it! Had it been well done I would have been complaining! :teeth:

Thanks again! popcorn::

Their staffing has been an issue since they did away with the bus staff. If I have it right it was the waitstaff that didn't want the table bussers (is that a word??) anymore. Flame me if you want but sine the DDP and the gaurenteed tip service as whole IMHO has gone down.

Wow! So sorry to hear about these bad experiences. It sounds like the server really makes or breaks your experience more than you might realize until you get a bad one. Raw meat would really make me unhappy - that's just gross!

On the other hand, we were just there 5/23 and had an excellent meal - great food, great service. We were on DDP and left extra tip because the servers were so good. We're going back in Dec. hope we have good luck again.

We were at Ohanas last Christmas and notice the oddness in staffing. Our two cousins were more than present, but they seemed so rushed! They tended to slap plates of food down or force meat on to our plates without even waiting to hear if we really wanted it or not and then move on to the next table. I think our cousins were a little overwhelmed with the amount of tables they had.

We went to Ohana for my BF's bday last month and we had Bernie as a server too. She must have been having an off night for you because she was AWESOME when we were there. She kept our drinks and plates full. The food was terrific, service was friendly and fast and the atmosphere was really fun. We left like a $20 tip for the 2 of us. I left WAY too full for my own good.

We went in December of last year. We usually go once every trip. It was one of the best times we've ever been to 'Ohanas. I loved the menu changes. The service has always been slow, but it's never been a big deal to us.

Sorry to hear that you had a bad experience:( This is one of most favorite places to eat and luckily we have always had great service.

I had a HORRIBLE experience at 'Ohana on May 26. We were long time 'Ohana lovers and I can say without reservation....we won't be back.

No flames here. This used to be one of our fav places, but our last visit was somewhat like yours. Bad service and not so great food. We have not been back. All it takes is one bad experience. Disney is too expensive to not expect and receive great service and good food. Thanks for posting. It's always good to get both negative and positive reviews.

I've never had bad service at 'Ohana. Sorry your experience was not that great.
