Hi everyone. I know most of you know that my husband Shannon is in the National Guard and recently was away for six months for training. Well, while he was there he had a bad panic attack and had to go to the emergency room. He has since been seeing a councelor and taking medication for depression. Well, last night he had a mental breakdown and was full of rage and broke things in our home, so much to the fact that I had to leave and he voluntarily went to the hospital to get checked out. He was then told he needed to get evaluated at another hospital, so we brought him there. After evaluation it was decided that he needed to stay. He could be there for three to five days, we are not sure.
We are struggling right now. It's hard for him to understand that mental illness is nothing to be ashamed of, but he is still ashamed. If I can get any prayers from my Disboard family, that would be great. I feel I've gotten close to you guys and just need a bit of help.

Prayers and pixiedust: pixiedust: pixiedust: pixiedust: pixiedust: pixiedust: pixiedust:

My grandmother suffered from chronic depression most of her life. She finally found the right medication in the last 5 or so years of her life and she got to a much better place.

You and your DH are in my prayers and if you need some more info, just PM me.

Kim

I am very, very sorry that Shannon is going through this. For 2 1/2 years, my job was to do transcription for the VA. The only qualifications for this is that I can type. I did a LOT of listening to different soldiers through all the different wars have been affected by war. While physical injures are very easy to see, the mental injuries aren't always. I think our soldiers are taught to be tough and to "suck it up", and sometimes that is just not possible. The military has done a much better job the last couple years understanding that PTSD is a serious illness that many of our soldiers are dealing with. Now to convince the soldiers. I've heard some stories that are very bothersome, I couldn't imagine living them.

I'm glad your DH is getting help, and I'm glad that he has you to love him. Please keep us updated as to how he is going.

You're all in our thoughts and prayers here in the Klose-Magi household.

If it helps you might want to try to get your husband to listen to the anniversary show where we share our back stories. Pete talks about his battle with depression and your husband might gain some insight from this.

My thoughts and prayers are with you and your DH

It is so frightening to see a loved one lose control like that. My DS has been battling bipolar disorder for a couple of years now, and when it first manifested, he would act out in rage, and panic, and depression. He got help, and he's much, much better.

Here's hoping that your DH gets the help he needs, and is much, much better very soon!

I understand the stress that can come from military service and separation from family. Best of luck to you and yours.

Thoughts and prayers to you and your husband. Please be sure to take care of your self also.

You are so strong. But if you need us, the DIS is here. Your husband is blessed to have you love him and I think that will be what he needs alongside of some good help.

My father came back from the Vietnam War with PTSD. Every time it would lightning and thunder he would hide under the bed, thinking it was bombs. That's what my mom told me. He was also afraid of closed in spaces and just recently was able to handle going to church. It takes small steps, but with love and support and a willingness to try things'll work out.

Prayers, good thoughts and a :grouphug: coming your way!!!

I am sending my thoughts and prayers for both your husband and you. I appreciate his service to our country. Please keep us updated on how things are going.
