I am doing my first poll and would love advice on which would be the best coat for me to take on our upcoming Disneyland Paris trip.

I can not decide wether to take my 3/4 length wool coat (as this is a little more formal for Paris, Vienna and London, where we are also travelling to on this trip) or my down insulated vintage white full length puffer coat/jacket. Or should I take both? I know I will be warm in the Wool coat in London but I really don't want to be cold at Disneyland, as in the cities we really just go from building to building where its warm but at Disneyland we will be outside a lot so don't know if a wool coat will be warm enough for an Aussie travelling from 35 degree celcius + temperatures to freezing.

We are travelling from Australia, so a very warm climate so we will feel the cold. I have used my wool jacket in London before and it was fine but I thought Disneyland may be much colder and being outside a lot more I may need the warmth of the down puffer jacket. Here is a picture of the down jacket

For all those who have travelled to Disneyland Paris in mid december help me decide which coat or coats to take :confused3 .

Thank you so much :thanks:

Considering the miles you have to drag your coat around the world I would say take the wool coat, although I would ask myself if its rainproof?
If it really gets that bad you can buy lovely warm scarf’s and gloves at Disney ore you could buy a coat at the mall.

These coat’s are not that expensive.

You don’t need to dress like a polar bear and believe me I know. I’m always cold and it’s my deepest believe that I should be born in Florida ore Hawaii. :rotfl:

I have given my vote to the 3/4 one but think a waterproof coat would be better because you never know if it could rain (it did a lot when i was there in october) and a wool wet coat is not the best thing ever...

The white one sounds a suicide, i would avoid it ;)

Are you going into Paris proper? The metro and the stations are very very VERY warm. So are shops, museums and restaurants in winter. So you may find that you are suddenly going from extremes of temperature. Plus white will get dirty very quickly.

If you are just going into the parks, I would also avoid white. But I don't find it usually very cold although there are the rare cold days and some days of snow. Better is to bring extra socks and mittens and scarf and hat, as well as layered clothing.

I actually find London generally colder than Paris (and colder than Germany) in late autumn/winter.

I voted for the black coat, mainly for practical reasons really. Wearing white in a "Park" just doesn't sound appeal to me lol. Also, it might not actually turn out as cold as you'd expect (I'm hoping that anyway for when we go hahaaaa). Just bring a couple of extra thermals or cardigans to wear underneath... and with your hat, scarf & gloves, I'm sure you'll be fine!

Don't be under any illusions it WILL be VERY cold when you go and much colder than it is in London or anywhere else here in UK. I would have voted for the down coat if it hadn't been white. We go every year at end of Nov and I wear a full length down puffer coat that's black out of Lands End. Its good up to -40 so no problems there. My main concern would be that your lovely white coat will get dirty in no time. My main concern about the wool coat would be that it isn't going to be good in the rain/snow and very cold temperatures. If you're not worried about the white coat getting dirty I would take it. Otherwise, I would either try to take both or buy a new warm waterproof coat in a darker colour. Good luck making your choice :goodvibes

I don't know much about coats but I voted for the wool one as it sounds warmer. I'd say to wear the warmest one you own...and still be prepared to be cold!

Thanks everyone. The white one, is really very off white, it isn't totally white and I don't care if it gets dirty, if it is going to be that cold then I really want the warmest jacket, but if a wool coat is warm enough for the temperatures in mid december then I'll just take that. I just can't get how cold it's going to be, I wanted Black but they didn't have any left in Black, I have absolutely no use for this coat here in Australia, so I will only be wearing it on this trip if I take it, it's goose down and is supposed to be for temperatures down to -40, so thought it would be nice and warm .

Still don't know which to take :confused3 , may end up taking both. I just wish they had had the off white one in Black. I did think about it getting dirty but thought I'll only be wearing it for a month.

When I was there last December, I can honestly say I never felt cold like it.

DD and I often refer to temps as being cold, really cold or Disney cold! ;)

But that just makes it feel all the more like Christmas, especially if you're lucky enough to have clear blue skies with the frosty temp!

We both had thermals, lots of layers, heavy coats, wooly hats/scarves/2 sets of gloves and 2 sets of socks (thermal) and still managed to feel cold on the (very few) bits not covered. Still, it added to the atmosphere.

I would personally choose the down jacket.

Don't be under any illusions it WILL be VERY cold when you go and much colder than it is in London or anywhere else here in UK.

I'm sorry but I must beg to differ, but it really does vary. I've been many times in Nov/Dec/Jan when temperatures were above 13-15 degrees, and other days when they were around zero. Days below zero are not the norm.

Just like anywhere, there are warm days, cool days, and cold days. I spend a lot of my time in France and Paris and there are many days in winter when I don't even wear a coat - just a sweater and scarf.

OP, also remember that you will be indoors waiting in queues, shopping, dining etc and that gets warm very quickly, so you may want to consider a coat that you don't mind draping over a chair or carrying over your arm if it does get warm.

I would say maybe taking the wool jacket but also wearing lots of layers and taking a nice hat, gloves and scarf.

I get hot very easily in DLP even when its freezing cold so i wouldnt recommened taking a big heavy coat as it has been said you will be in and out of queues and shops etc where it will be warm. If it rains you can always buy a poncho.

I actually voted for the 3/4 length black wool one because the colour of the white one put me off, I was thinking it may get dirty, but that was before I read it was 'off-white'. After looking at the picture of the white one, I think I would opt for that because it has a hood and will be waterproof if it rains, and will be lighter for you to carry if you become too warm and wish to take it off.

When we went for Christmas in 2005 the weather started off in double figures and we were wearing just sweatshirts but it soon dropped to -8. You need to be prepared for all temperatures!

Good luck deciding. :wizard:
