Need your help please

I have a request. My DS 9 is on a baseball team and his coaches have been working on building a field for the kids to play on. One of the kids on the team entered a contest and is now a finalist to win $20,000 toward field renovations. The winner will be determined strictly by online voting so we need TONS of votes!! Normally, I would vote as the OP requests, but given that this contest is for $20,000, I decided to take time to read the essays. That's a lot of money to cast a vote for without giving everyone involved an equal chance. After reading all the essays, I voted for the one I thought truly deserves to win. I'm sure the money will mean a lot to whichever team wins.

Thank you for doing that! I certainly hope everyone else realizes the amount of money involved here and votes for the child/team they feel truly deserves it. Not just the one the OP knows. These teams are all over the country. Maybe you could help out someone from your own community.

Just wanted to give a little more info about our team for those who may be voting. The boys on this team are there for several reasons. Either they were cut by the "official" city team or they either weren't able to, or didn't want to, commit to the time requirements of the other team. (They practice alot more than our team and travel out of town alot more.) They may have also chosen our team because they knew the coaches and agreed with their philosophy. Basically, our coaches feel that they should develop each player (not just focus on the good ones) and that kids should still have time to play other sports and do other things. Also, that they shouldn't have to commit to one sport at such an early age. The town we live in is very sports oriented but our coaches wantd a team where kids could develop, have fun and not feel as much pressure as some of the more organized travel teams. (Not that those teams are bad, it's just that every parent and kid has to choose what works for their family).

Anyway, because we are an independent team, we receive no backing from the city and they will not allow us to use any of their many baseball fields even though we pay the same taxes as those families and many of the fields sit unused for days at a time. Because of this, our coaches had to build their own field so that the kids had somewhere to play. I realize that we all willingly decided to play on the team so I don't mean to sound overly critical of our city's decisions. I'm just glad that these kids have found a place to play where winning isn't everything and they can have fun.

The other teams may have similar stories but I just wanted to let you know a little bit more about what this team is about and, if you choose to support us, that would be great. Thanks again!!
