I had decided to purchase a small DVC contract (probably 50 points at AKV) in the near future, with the goal of adding another 50 at a different resort (probably BLT or BWV) a little later on, as I like split stays. I was in no rush because I have trips planned (and paid for with rented DVC points) for the next year and was waiting for the right UY/contract to come along. But today I noticed 100 points at HH with a good UY for me. I can get 100 points close to what I would pay for 50 at AKV. I live in SC and would definitely use some of the points at HH, but would want to also stay at WDW. I am a college professor, so I am fairly flexible with times and fairly flexible with resorts (not very fond of SSR). What would you do? Would you take the extra points and risk not having the 11-month booking window at WDW? I assume it is not that difficult to get HH in the winter? Thanks for any of your thoughts on the matter! :goodvibes

It depends. You do mention you will use the points at HH, which is a good thing. Also, remember, that the MF's at HH are higher than AKV or some of the other WDW resorts.

When do you hope to go to WDW? Certain times getting things at 7 months may be tough, like December. Are you okay if you call and only SSR or OKW is available?

If your sole purpose is to really vacation in WDW, IMO, I would buy a resort there and not elsewhere.

Right now, and I know it might be more expensive, DVC is allowing new members to buy in with less than 100 points. It is full price, but when you are only talking 50 points, the difference to get the right UY you want might be worth it--not sure.

Good luck!

Right now, we go mostly in Oct, March, and May, but with DD getting older, June will probably be in the picture. In terms of holidays, I would probably be more likely to go to HH in Nov and Dec than WDW. Thank you!

It sounds like then maybe HH would be a good choice for you. Getting an Epcot resort during October, due to Food and Wine, might be the only one that could prove difficult but given those other travel times, I think you will find things at the 7 month window. And, given that you say you are flexible in the resort of choice, that could work in your favor!

Good luck!!

One other question. Do you think there is any way I could get through ROFR and find something available at WDW 3/10-3/13? I have a junior suite booked at the Dolphin for my parents, my daughter, and me after our DCL 4-nighter. If I can use points instead, that's almost 1k to go towards purchase price. Keep your thoughts coming! :flower3:

If you were to buy now, I doubt that you would have the points in your account for a March trip. We began buying a HHI contract in October, we passed ROFR at the end of November and the points are still not in our account. This is much longer than we have ever experienced but the sellers have been very tardy in getting papers in and the last we were told they signed the documents incorrectly.

I am seriously leaning toward getting HH. There are so few studios/ 1 bedrooms there that I'm not sure I'd be able to go when I wanted if I didn't own at HH. Anybody out there think that would be a mistake?

:) It doesn't really sound like a mistake to me. You will be able to use the points at HH at 11 months and possibly at WDW at 7 months. I do not think you will have too much of a problem booking WDW, somewhere, at 7 months. You will probably wind up at SSR, OKW or AKV since those are the larger resorts. That is way cool IMO !! :thumbsup2

Go, for the HH contract, alot more points and if you are flexible you will be able to get in at WWW at the 7 month window.

It sounds like HH is the best way to go. And you will have more points! And as has been said, BWV and BCV are just about impossible to get at the 7 month window for October, but you should have no trouble booking at other resorts.
