Need "wrecked" ankle advice, please!

Happy Birthday!
I'm so sorry you're going through this awful injury, I pray for a speedy recovery for you.

I have been laid up 6 weeks now with a broken foot, surgery 4 weeks ago 4 screws, I can only walk on my heel its been a long 6 weeks.
I know how you're feeling, just relax and heal, get a few good books to occupy your time.
Its amazing how your life can change from a stupid accident. Mine was a klutzy one and it aggravates me every time I think about how I did something like clean a window and broke a foot....... I just want my 2 feet back for my son's wedding in April.

God Bless you

I really struggled with crutches when I broke my ankle a couple of years ago, and was non weight bearing for 6 weeks. I bought a knee scooter and it was worth every penny. I think you can rent them too. Completely gave me my independence back and I totally loved it. Hope you heal soon x

Terri, I'm so sorry this accident had to happened. Prayers for a speedy and productive rehab.

Get one of those knee scooters - they will help you feel much more independent! Rest, elevate and don't try to do too much too soon. It takes a while to heal and get back to your prior self. My good friend did the same as you in Feb 2016 (she is 43 years young) and just recently she was able to wear her old shoes. She could wear stretched out tennis shoes but her foot was still swollen and a bit sore. Hang in there :-)

First off, I am so sorry for what has happened. I think a lot of the advice given here has been really good advice and going to a rehab is the best right now even though many patients would rather be in the comforts of their own home and that is understandable. At rehab you will not only have Physical Therapy to get you stronger, but also Occupational Therapy so when you do get home you will know ways to manage around your home until you are 100%. In addition to that you will have Nursing Care around the clock to mange the pain which is very important. I am a New Nurse although I work in a Pediatrics Office and have seen little ones who have been recovering from broken bones. I am going to be completely honest that you will have to work hard and it may not seem like fun, but in the long run the professionals know what they are doing and it is for your benefit. Good Luck and Hang in there.
