I didnt want to hijack the North face thread, but here is my question.I need a warm, casual coat for winter and possible for my Florida vacation-the last time we went at Christmas it was so cold I wore a hat, scarf, earmuffs the whole thing.I hate anything bulky but hate being cold worse. Is The North Face a good choice?thanks!!!

oh yeah, which would be better for Florida-the windstopper or delani?thanks in advance.

I really like the Lands End Dory Coat (or any of their coats for that matter). I have their peacoat & it is super warm and not bulky at all. They are having lots of sales and promotions too.

might I suggest a lands End coat. they have several models that travel well and you can "customize" the cold weather protection by the different linings available.

I hve several of them, a long parka with hood for serious cold weather, and a fleece lined zip up for cold weather.

and they are pretty good quality.

great minds think alike!

I love my Columbia coat that I bought years ago for a New Years trip to London. You can wear it three ways. The outer layer is a thin windbreaker fabric that is waterproof. The inside layer is a fairly heavy fleece that you can wear alone in moderate weather. Or you can zip the two pieces together and have a warm, windproof coat that is enough for our Tennessee winters.

This squishes down pretty small in a suitcase.

I was going to post the same thing. I've got a Columbia tri-climate coat, and it's wonderful for the reasons already listed. Let me add that not only is that thin windbreaker fabric a great raincoat, it's also warm all by itself. If you do some searching online (and look for codes too), you can get some really good deals.
