My mom just pulled her achilles tendon today. The doctor said she can't walk on it and she needs a wheelchair. I am freaking out because we are literally driving to our airport hotel as i type this and our flight leaves early tomorrow morning. I know nothing about disneyland with a wheelchair.
Here are my questions:
1. Where can we rent a wheelchair, and how much is this going to cost for a week.
2. We have fantasmic dining booked, are we still going to be able to get the "good section" or are we going to have to sit somewhere else.
3. How does this affect rides. Do we need a DAS card ? How does this all work?
Any help or information you can give me would be greatly appreciated. I am totally clueless in this department.

There are many vendors that rent wheelchairs and scooters. Give them a call and arrange one.

Google Anaheim Scooters and you'll see there are several that will deliver right to where you are staying.

I recommend a scooter over a wheelchair. This will give your mom the ability to be independent getting around.
The main advantage to an off-site vendor, is you can use going to and from the parks.
If rented in the parks, it can not be used past the security check points.

First off, it will be ok! Second. I suggest renting a ECV offsite for her to use for the week (the longer you rent it the cheaper it is per day at most places). Just do a quick ECV search here and you will get a few recommendations. We used D&R Mobility, Deckert's (sp?) is also recommended a lot on here. We used one while staying at the Candy Cane Inn and loved D&R. My mom is disabled and it was a godsend for us. She used it to get to and from the hotel to the park and it was great. You wont need a DAS, since it is a mobility issue, just find the CM at the Exit normally or one near the entrance under the umbrella or has a black scanning thing in their hand. Others will pipe in too. You will still have fun, just might take a bit longer to get to things. Hope your mom heals quickly!

As others have said, renting a scooter will give your mom more independence and means you don't have to push. I would give Deckert's a call and get a quote, they are cheaper per day than Disney and will deliver to your hotel.

I am not exactly sure about F! with a wheelchair and dining package. Anyone know? The regular FP area is in front of Pirates.

You don't need to worry about the DAS. You can pick up a guide for guests with mobility challenges at Guest Relations. Follow the instructions for boarding listed there or ask a CM. Sometimes you may receive a return time, but the guide or the CM will explain how it works.

I hope your Mom feels better! Can she transfer ok? Does she need a cane to move from the scooter to the ride or does she have a cast or boot?

I know when we stayed at Desert inn last year they had some in the lobby to rent not sure price or anything.

When we were at DL for Halloween one year, we had to get my mom a wheelchair when she badly pulled a muscle in her leg. We were staying at the DLH and they had wheelchairs for rent. Hope it all works out!

My mom just pulled her achilles tendon today. The doctor said she can't walk on it and she needs a wheelchair.
Usually when the doctor says they can't walk on it, they automatically supply crutches, a knee chair, walker, or wheelchair to go out on. When my daughter left the doctor's office, they supplied her with both a walker and a wheelchair. It was covered by the insurance. If she isn't to walk on it, this means at home or at the park.
1. Where can we rent a wheelchair, and how much is this going to cost for a week.
You need to check out the medical supply locations. ECV would be the best. We use Deckert's. A week will be in the neighborhood of $200. You will be able to use it between the hotel and parks.
2. We have fantasmic dining booked, are we still going to be able to get the "good section" or are we going to have to sit somewhere else.
You will be able to be in a good section but will need to be along the back rope in certain areas.
3. How does this affect rides. Do we need a DAS card ? How does this all work?
You won't use a DAS. Since she will be in a ECV, on rides where the line is not accessible, you will approach the CM at the line and they will scan your tickets and provide you a time to return. Lines that are accessible, you use the regular queue. For example, Buzz Lightyear is accessible. You go through the line, when you get to the part where you would board, they will direct you through a door to where you can take your time to assist your mom to board. They will ask if she can walk to the ride vehicle, and you will say no. They will then have you wait til the vehicle comes around where she can board with the scooter.

On a ride such as Matterhorn, you will go thru the regular queue until you reach the chalet. They will then divert you to the HA area to wait. Be aware she will beed to walk a few steps and be able to step down and push up out of the bob sled and do it in a timely matter (ride will e-stop if people take too long.)

Think about the rides clearly, imagining what muscles it takes to get into and out of. My daughter is 5 months past accident and her muscles still have issues pushing up and bending down. She can't push off enough to get out of rides she has to step down into, nor has enough strength in the muscle to have the ankle take the weight to get out. Achilles tendons are a serious issue. Also, if your mom is on pain meds, be aware some rides will make problems. My daughter is one who rode Star Tours and Big Thunder 10 times in a row during previews with no problems. But on pain meds for her leg, Soarin' made her ill.

Thank you so much for everyone's responses. My mom was very apprehensive about getting a scooter, so we are trying a wheelchair for now. Guest relations was so helpful about telling us which rides we go through the exit etc, and we have a special map to refer to. I have had time to calm down and am ready to just adjust the way we tour and have fun!
