Hey! For our anniversary, dh and I want to getaway for the weekend. We are about 2 hours SW of Chicago and don't want to drive more than 3 hours. The catch? The town has to start with the letter "B"?

Well, until you said it had to start with B I was going to suggest the winery at Galena.

Other than that I guess Bloomington?

How about Bloomington?

Not a whole lot to do there but there are some nice restaurants. The shopping is ok...of course sounds like you might be near there anyway. But it does start with a B and you can go from there!

Yes, Bloomington is a last resort- we live in Normal, which is usually combined with Bloomington to be "Bloomington Normal"! Bettendorf...that has a casino, right? Maybe they have a hotel and some nice restaurants. I also thought I could bend the rules and just stay in a hotel or B and B that starts with "b"!

We live two hours South as well in Washington, we are leaving in nine days to se the mouse for our Anniversary. How about Bolingbrook? I also have DD that is 10 and a DS who is 8.

LOL I thought you might live there --- I am very close as well.

I'll vouch for Bettendorf - it's pretty fun for a weekend. There's an AMAZING italian restaurant called Trattoria Tiramisu. They used to have a website, but I can't find it.. here's some of their menu, though:

Anyway, the people that own it and work there are all from Italy and the food is amazing. Plus, they're super nice and accommodating - they make everything from scratch, so if you think of something you think would be really good that isn't on the menu, they'll cook it for you. :thumbsup2

Another good place to check out is Harris Pizza: www.harrispizza.com I've actually never had their pizza, but they've got pretty good appetizers and sandwiches.

The hotel I stayed at a few times [and considered using for my wedding] was actually an old abbey that was converted into a hotel, but it has since been converted into a psychiatric center. :rolleyes1 But, I have heard that the hotel at the Isle of Capri Casino is pretty nice.

The nice thing about Bettendorf is that you're right by Moline, Rock Island and Davenport, too - so there's a ton of stuff to do right in the same area. :thumbsup2

Scraping the barrel for "B" towns...

Pretty much (although Bolingbrook takes a close second). :lmao:

If nothing else, it has a zoo and a Metra stop so you can actually go into the city.

Bettendorf..then you can visit Moline, Rock Island, and Davenport..knocking out more towns off your list!

I really recommend walking along the river..There's a great path on the IL side.

There is the Isle of Capri Casino on the IA side, which is right on the river. There is also the new Jumer's Casino on the IL side, which is in Rock Island.

If you're looking for a nice, fancy place to eat...I recommend Johnny's Italian Steakhouse on the IL side. It's right near the river, which would work for walking along the river before/after your meal. The bridge and lights are beautiful at night.

oak Brook

Love the comment about Bolingbrook/bottom of the barrel :rotfl2: :rotfl2::rotfl2:

However, you can stay in Bolingbrook and then hit up neighbor Naperville for their July 1-4 rib fest, Sammy Hager, Foghat, Charlie Daniels....and great food too.

Come to Burlington. Iowa. Great river town. Pzazz resort complex and casino. Great museums. Summer band concerts.

There's a little town kind of near St Louis called Belleville, IL. It's near the town where my dad was born. Lots of little towns to explore around there, very quaint area. I mapped it on Google and it's 3h from Normal, IL.
