Need wedding shower gift ideas...I am on a BUDGET!!

One of my favorite gifts that I received was a blank cookbook from my MIL. It is intended for you to compile your favorite recipes into. She went through and put one of her favorite recipes under each category. Still use that gift after 12 years of marriage.

I made my own cookbook as a wedding gift once. Since most recipes are created with several people in mind, couples may end up with more than they can eat, so I went through my Quick Cooking magazines, copied the recipes written for two in color and put them into a slilm three-ringed notebook. I then created a nice cover with the title "Dinner for Two" and slipped it into the front cover of the notebook.

One of the best gift I received was a basket full of differnt kinds of spices.
It was lined with some dish towels and pot holders as well. I don't know where you're at but Trader Joes has great prices on spices.

What a great idea!!! Definitely household basics are great. As long as they are packaged nicely I'm sure they will be a huge hit and other folks there who just bought off the registry will wish that they had been as thoughtful.

A cute idea would be to buy a pair of white flip flops and a pair of black flip flops. Take the white ones and tie sections of white ribbon in knots all along the length of the thong part (the "y"). I don't know if I'm explaining this very well, but you would cut maybe 4" lengths of ribbon and tie them individually side by side. You could use puffy paint to write JUST on the left foot and MARRIED on the right foot. Or write it mirrored with puffy paint on the bottom so that their footprints in the sand read JUST MARRIED. This is an especially good idea for folks going on a tropical honeymoon.

It's probably too late since I saw the "going shopping" message but:

I went to TJ Max and found a box of 4 beautiful wine glasses and some inexpensive but pretty candle holders. I had a great basket already so I added a bottle of wine, the candle/holders & two glasses (saved two for another occasion), and some bath salts then put them together in the basket with ribbons and tissue paper. The basket looked expensive but it cost under $25.

I've done the same with more money and added things food items, cheese & crackers - you know what I mean.

I love reading these ideas and will probably use some of them.

Do they have a house? Do you know if they garden....some plants in pots for their steps would be nice. We got a wheelbarrow for our friends it was pretty cheap and we filled it with some pansys for their house. It was a pretty gift and they loved it!!!

When I had my shower last year (by the way I had items on my registry ranging from $1.00 up to $500..something for every budget), one of my favorite gifts-someone filleda laundry basket with a lot of different cleaning products-especially the glass wipes, clorox wipes, pledge wipes, plastic gloves etc. You can get a lot of great cleaning products at a dollar store as well. Just a thought-good luck!!!

Ok here is what I bought...

Laundry Basket
Clorox
Purex
Snuggles
Shout Spray
Palmolive
Gloves
Sponge
Brush
Clorox Wipes
All Purpose Cleaner

...had to have a feather duster..I still have mine from 10 years ago..

and I printed her a list of helpful things to know (basically a list of uses for common household items) **Did you know if you have stinky feet to soak them in JELLO??? OR if you have Arthritis to rub WD-40 on the trouble spot??

I got all of this for 17.20 + tax...

WOOHOO!!!!! I must say I am proud of myself!!!

Thanks again !!

You did great!
I have one more idea in case anyone else is looking for gift ideas...

A gift wrapping station.
Either get one of those stand-up flip top organizers for around $10 or an under-bed storage box and fill with wrapping paper, gift bags, ribbons, tape, etc. I'm going to have lots of ideas for my next wedding shower!

Thanks for posting this thread and getting me thinking and reading!

Can you explain why I need one pair of white and one pair of black flipflops? In my mind when I followed the directions I ended up with one pair of decorated flip flops and one pair sitting waiting. I like the idea so far and would like to try it. Also, how do I make it so they leave a "just married" imprint in the sand?

If I can figure this out, I can see expanding the idea as a gift for friends going cruising, etc.

I picked up a couple of the oversized margarita glasses with green cactuses on stem. Plan on getting margarita bucket at sam's for around $5 bucks for a birthday gift. Throw in some alcohol and its a great gift.

DH saw the glasses and wants a set??? Now I have to go back to dollar tree for more glasses.

I think that Christmas ornaments are a great shower/wedding gift! You can even find ones that can be personalized. I've done this a few times and you can get a nice assortment for not that much money. Obviously at this time of the year it helps if you have a year round Christmas shop. We have a few here in Michigan quite close to me!

A good friend of mine was having just a "general" shower. Online I'd found something called a "recipe for marriage," typed it up on nice paper, and framed it. I put that in a large glass pyrex dish with a rubbery top and included an oven mit, spatulas, and other small inexpensive kitchen items. She absolutely loved it and anytime I go to her house I see the "recipe for marriage" hanging on her kitchen wall.

This is too late but I read this as a friend of mine will be getting married soon...thought I'd add in case anyone else is looking....when my sis-in-law got married I bought a blank address book and filled in all of our family's addresses and phone numbers on it. She seemed to really appreciate it, and while I was doing it I got to fill in my own as well....no more searching for addresses!

These are all such excellent and creative ideas! Can we save threads like these?
