Hey I know this is not exactly an easy question but I thought it wouldn't hurt to ask:

My sister is going to her good friend's wedding on Saturday (not at disney... too bad!), and in typical fashion has waited too long to buy her a gift. Barely anything is left on any of the couple's registries and she doesn't want to give cash or gift card to a good friend.

Do you guys have any ideas for a neat, thoughtful or unusual gift that can be bought in a store (not ordered online)? Past brides, did anyone give you something that was special and unexpected?

Thanks for the help!

What about a donation to a special cause? Or tickets to an upcoming concert, show, or sporting event?

Or a nice christmas ornament with the year on it? It's not christmas yet, but if they celebrate christmas, they are going to need ornaments for their first christmas tree. Some stores have christmas stuff already and Hallmark stores have ornaments year round.

She could also check the registry and see whether or not the couple registered for any cookie cutters. If they are not on the registry, chances are nobody thought to buy those. And there are tons of fun cookie cutters out there.

Also, getting a nice bottle of wine or champagne could be really appreciated. They might even save it until their first year anniversary or whatever.

I know you said no gift cards, but what if it's not to a store? What about a gift card for a restaurant or movie theater or something? Those are perfect for married couple date nights.

Or a gift card to a frame shop? That way they can get their favorite wedding photo professionally matted and framed. This way they can pick everything so that it goes with their tastes and decor. You would be surprised how much this can cost. But when it's done right, it's totally worth it. We are going to be on a tight budget after our wedding and honeymoon. I imagine that we will not be able to have photos professionally framed for a while.

Let us know what she chooses.

Those are all really great suggestions! Thanks so much! :goodvibes

I've been creating honeymoon baskets for the last couple weddings we've gone too. I've done the movie basket too, the couple had some dvd's on their list and we picked those up and made a basket with popcorn and ice cream sundae makings.

Love the idea of a gift cert to a frame shop!

A favourite wedding gift of some friends of mine was $100 worth of gift certificates to a movie theatre. They loved the idea that they could go out on a "date" any time without worrying about whether or not they could afford it!
