Hi All,

Doing a little research for DW. We are a family of 5 and the laundry always seems to be running. We currently have the largest capacity Kenmore top loading washer and traditional front loading gas dryer.

Interested in opinions on new style front loaders vs traditional like we have had.

Price break points (what is a good price to pay)

Brands & Models. This is the second set of Kenmore units in 8 yrs so I am not that pleased with them.

TIA

I have a Kenmore HE3 Front Loading washing machine and I LOVE it :goodvibes ... I can put so much laundry in it and it washes everything great ... it is so energy efficient too ... it uses so much less water than my old top loading machines ... it also uses less detergents/fabric softner/bleach ... I am just sorry I don't have the matching dryer yet (I'm still using my old dryer) ... but as soon as that one goes, I'm getting the matching dryer :goodvibes ...

I don't remember the exact price, but it was under $1000 and that was about 4 years ago ...

Thanks:thumbsup2

Appreciate any and all feedback.

Does anyone have any experience with the LG, Samsung, or Electrolux?

TIA

We just bought electrolux frontloaders, the largest capacity that they have. The washer is 4.7 cu. ft. and the dryer is 8.0 cu. ft.. We have only had them for 2 weeks but they are tremendous. We are a family of 5 with kids who like to change clothes often.
We got them on sale with rebates but we still payed over 3g for the set. They are very energy efficient so we will get some of that back over time. We are extremely pleased with electrolux, but keep in mind it has only been 2 weeks. We no longer dread laundry.

We have the Whirlpool Duet (Sport)..
The Sport is the smaller model of the Whirlpool Duet... but we LOVE it.

You're probably not interested int he 'smaller' though..

  • Stay far away from GE and from Maytag. My GE Profile died after 4.5 years. I just replaced it with a Maytag. That thing is NOISY!!!!!
Good luck!

NO WAY...
I also made the biggest mistake by buying the Sport a couple of years ago before a lot of reviews were out... (It is on the bottom of the list!!!)

While, at first they seem nice and well made, etc...
THEY SUCK....
Washer - doesn't use enough water to adequately clean and rinse clothes... Not even close...
Try putting clothes that are still full of detergents and chemicals into the dryer... can we talk cardboard bath towels... Also wears and destroys your fabrics.
Washer - takes FOREVER to do a single load of laundry, because after you run it on the full cycle with the extra rinse... I have to run it on yet ANOTHER 25min. rinse-spin to get the suds and chemicals rinsed out.
Dryer - only the sides of the drum turn...the stationary parts are in constant friction with the fabrics, and the finish is halfway worn off and is getting rough... again, wears and destroys your fabrics.

Clothes come out of this dryer with more wrinkles than my ancient old GE.

Not to mention other things like the super loud cheap water pump... This washer is quiet until the water pump comes on to empty the water between cycles... sounds just HORRIBLE...

I could go on and on and on...

These whirlpools SUCK.
Did I say that they SUCK??? :rotfl2:

I would give anything if I had purchased the Bosch that I had first wanted...

I would especially look for a set that had a full stainless dryer drum (NOT just the sides that turn while the front and back remain stationary.)

Check out Fisher and Pykel, they are a brand that has been over in Europe for a while and starting to sell in the US. They are a little more expensive the some of the other brands but well worth it. Water efficent, quiet, large. I have had mine F&P washer and dryer for 3 years now and have not had one single problem with them. We are a family of 5 and do laundry all the time. They hold a lot of clothes and are very quick about getting it done. GL

We chose a HE top loader rather than a front loader when buying last year. Partly we were just used to a top one and partly because we have a laundry 'closet' not a whole room...the front loaders really should be left open to avoid the mold/mildew issue and that would be hard in our 'closet'. We chose Whirlpool Cabrio top loader and matching dryer and LOVE them both. We can leave the top open even when the doors are closed, there is no agitator column in the middle of the washer and I can fit a king sized comforter in it with no problem. They've been great.

I have the LG Tromm front load washer and dryer. I'm beyond happy with both of them!!!!

I'm another big fan of Fisher Paykel. We got a new Fisher Paykel washer 3 or 4 years ago, when our original washer from the scratch and dent store finally died. Well, 4 years into it, our original dryer STILL won't die.

Like the PP said, they are water efficient, energy star, top loading, and the washer spins so fast, the clothes are barely damp when they're done.

have had maytag twice. First set lasted about 12-13 years, and three moves with a month in storage. On the second set. Doing fine, and, while it is about 5 yrs old, they don't "feel" like the older ones did. Can't explain it, but just don't "feel" like they will last as long. But, they were only about 4-500 a piece, so, they are replaceable. I would buy them again.

I have a Fisher and Paykel top load HE pair. It can wash conventionally, or HE. It does not have an agitator. I have the matching top load Fisher and Paykel dryer. My only complaint would be that there isn't a quick wash cycle for the washer - but the laundry is so dry the dry time is much faster.

I have had the Bosch Nexxt he frontloader for about a year and a half. I am very pleased with the washer and dryer.

We haven't had any of those problems? :scared1:
