We got a new tv 4 years ago when we moved. Supposedly it’s a smart tv. I’d rather have a dumb tv where you plug it in turn it in and it works but that’s another story.
Anyways lately we lose the internet to the tv which then messes up the tv. Where it breaks up into little squares and hear about every 5th word. It’s so annoying
So DH has to put back in the internet password.
It’s so annoying. Oh there was just an update which usually mess things up on everything
So anyone know what cause you to lose the internet to the tv and how can you fix it
This is actually our 2nd tv in 4 years when we called the tv maker we were told if there’s a power failures that can mess up the tv. Sorry it’s so long it’s so frustrating

I’d love to know this since my Smart TV started doing this randomly And it’s super annoying I called the manufacturer because I couldn’t get it to work and they had me do a factory reset and I’m gonna say don’t ever do that because that messed up everything !! But every time I wanna watch streaming it acts like it’s never had Internet a day and it’s life and if it keeps it up it’s life is going to come to an end!! Because I’m a good hour or longer trying to get it to work

Hello there Dznypal,
I believe I can help you with your TV problem. My parents had the exact same problem with our living room TV two years ago. And it all started when the day before our living room TV had developed troubles we had a power outage and once the power came back on our living room TV began having troubles. And the TV would begin to turn on and after a few minutes or so would fade to black and turn itself off and my parents couldn't understand what had happened and so Mom had to unplug and plug the TV back in and the TV did the same thing of turning on for a few minutes then fading to black and turning itself off and it would also freeze itself too. My father ended up calling the company to see how they could help and there was nothing that they could do and so we ended up getting a new living room TV and that TV is still in our living room unplugged. How long have you had your TV? And did your husband have to unplug the TV and plug it back in too? Also what brand of TV do you have? Because our living TV was a Hisiense and they are the worst TV company to deal with
Hope this advice helps and good luck

It could be the tv or it could be your router/wifi access point. The first thing to do would be to use a tablet or phone AT THE TV and make sure you not only can connect to your wifi, but that it doesn't drop out.

Second step would be to reboot your TV.
Next would be rebooting the router.
Next would be getting into your router software interface and having it "forget" the TV, then having the TV reconnect.

And your TV probably still "works", you can plug in an antenna, cable box, DVD player, etc to watch content.

If your router is working ok with everything else would it be something else ? I’ve rebooted every time I want to watch streaming / I’ve done everything mentioned except hard wire the tv

Did you try "forgetting" the wifi connection, either from the TV or the router?

Keep in mind, check your other devices connection to the router from next to the TV, not just in the same room. Could be a weak connection.

Also, if able, turn on the Hotspot on your phone, connect the tv to that and see if you still have issues.

If possible, I would try moving the router just a little closer to that television. In my home, a few feet made all the difference in signal strength and reliability. These newer wireless routers (even the cheaper ones) are so much better than what I had even a few years ago; I got a 4 antenna one for like $25 at WalMart.

I did try the forget and re add
My router is literally on top of my TV I mean it’s right next to it
I’m wondering if I have a bad cable and that’s my issue??? Meaning the cable going to the TV to the router if that makes sense or am I just totally off base???

Earlier you said you haven't tried hardwire. Now you're asking about a possible bad cable. I'm confused.

Just to make sure we're on the same page, the router is what distributes your internet signal to devices in your house.
A satellite or cable box will take a signal from satellite or cable and send it to your TV.
A streaming box (Roku, Firestick, AppleTv) will connect to the internet (via your router) and display a picture on the TV.

So what is on top of your TV?

My IT person had said I might have a bad cable to my router 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️ thus router which is right next to my tv has 4 cables hooked into it - I have no idea what do they go to because this is way out of my realm I just know if I wanna watch streaming I have to reboot the TV reboot the Wi-Fi and then pray to God repeatedly that something’s going to work and I never used to have to do this the TV is about five years old it’s up-to-date on an update and it it’s a Vizio calling their customer service was a waste of my time because they’re the ones that had me do a factory reset which I wish I never would’ve done
Thank you for trying to help me but I think you’re trying to help a very lost person

If other devices stay connected to internet, its probably the TV.

Since I'm cheap and wouldn't want to buy a new TV, if I were you, I'd get a streaming device (Roku, Firestick, AppleTV), connect that via wifi to router and HDMI to TV (assuming there's an available port). Total cost should be under $50.

Do you have a friend or family member who can come over and help you with the TV set up?

Often, dh or I have had to help out parents and others with technology.

It's a lot easier in person than not.

Agreed. I’d always recommend AppleTV …it works, flawlessly. And it provides the best picture possible. Smart TV = not very Smart

Is the picture quality that much different between AppleTV, Roku, and Firestick? All other things being equal of course.

I am involved with a number of audio/video forums and the first piece of advice we give everyone is to never rely on the TV apps themselves. They are not updated regularly like an actual streaming device is and as you can see, problems arise very often.

Get a dedicated streaming device. I have and love my AppleTV. I would recommend that or a Roku. Fire Stick (from Amazon) are hit or miss, some work well but some can be just as frustrating as using TV apps.

If you have a bad cable to your router, you should be having issues with other devices(phone, iPad, etc.). If those work, then you probably have an issue with the tv connecting to the WiFi -best solution is to run a cable from router directly to tv(if possible, always best solution anyway). Do you have any other devices connected to your TV(Roku, firestick, etc.)? I would disconnect everything and start like it’s a new tv and begin setup. If that fails, you’ve eliminated 90% of potential issues and it could be the tv itself. Best of luck…

It definitely is if you’re watching 4k content, and minimal if it’s basically HD(1080p). The beauty of the AppleTV is the speed at which you can move between apps(Netflix, Amazon, YouTube, etc.) -it’s fairly intuitive and manages your watch history among all apps by taking you directly to the next episode.
