Need To Warn Everyone About Virus!!!

Just a little note a warning !!

This happend to us this past week end. I got a letter from a Trader who told me she got the virus and she told me to go to the C drive and Delete a file name jdbgmgr.exe

Previous to this our computer has been acting up. Sometimes it would freeze and we would have to shut if of mannually so I showed it to Hubby and he went into the file and found this jdbgmgr.exe. She said it would have a teddy bear as an icon and there it was. THen we put it in the recycle bin just like she said to do.

We were going to e-mail all the people that was in our address book but the computer just froze on us.

It took my husband all week end since Fri night until this morning to get us up and going again.


ANd of course I thought it was this jdbgmgr.exe that was the virus.

I e-mail all my address book and a really realiable source writes back and tell me that it's a HOAX!!!!

Well, I had to e-mail all the people again and telll them that it was a HOAX!!

Many of the people were from the board and I hope they read my second message before doing anything.

It's really fustrating on who to trust. Do you do it or not next time I'll ask on the board and get advise.

But now it all makes sense. When we deleted the file that's when all the real problems started.

This is the second hoax I have heard about in the last few months. Best advice if you get an e-mail like this is to go to either McAffee or Norton's website and check it out. They are a reliable source and it is VERY unlikely that if an e-mail is circulating about a virus that they have not heard about it.

Cathy, e-mail me with some specifics on your system. I may be able to help you get a little more stable.

I too received a message regarding that. I always check McAfee's site to see if the email is a hoax before deleting files. Fortunately it was a hoax.

I did, however receive a virus infected email today. McAfee viruscan caught it right away, and I was able to delete it. Strangely enough, it tried to automatically open the attachment where the virus was, without me trying to open it!! I sure am glad I have a good virus scaning program!

As long as we're talking viruses ....

We got one the other day that was linked somehow to a website called mp3hi-fi.com or something like that. Lauri was checking out music sites and found that one. Somehow not only did it find its way into our favorites but it also became our new home page!! I found this out when I opened a new IE window and got hit with a virus warning and the Attack of the Pop-ups. Thankfully Norton caught it and took care of it.

Same thing happened to me last night and today. I had to email everyone back to tell them it was a hoax...

Well, my computer crashed on me the other day and I was in an absolute panic because all of my job hunting materials are found through the internet right now! AGH! So, I took the computer in the computer fixer store and they found 689 viruses on my hard drive! My father (a computer person) was totally embarassed and very upset with me that I didn't have a virus check program on my computer before. Needless to say, I have a very good one now and won't be embarassing my Dad anytime soon (at least not because of a computer problem).
