Well, it looks like I will have to use a wc this time we are down there. We are going down this Sat. morning, Jan 2nd. I won't have to use the whole time, so will rent at each park. I can walk, and might not always look like it, but have some real problems with my knee that hasn't gotten better and I just won't be able to do all the miles of walking that getting around disney entails. Wearing a knee brace will help some but not enough. I've been advised it'd be best to try to wc some of the time, and though I hate doing this and feel embarassed even, I know I really wouldn't make it. And, I don't want cancel our trip, either. So, I plan to get a wc when going to the park and use it for when I'd be doing lots of walking, but then park it and do regular lines, waiting, or park it to shop or go in the restaurants. I've also got a cane to help. I know people will probably be making comments and all which will be awful, so I'll have to try to ignore them. I'll avoid that on the buses by just renting at the parks. This will all kind of spread out the walking and the riding, too.

But, I was wondering about parking the wc. Where can I do this while shopping or doing rides(by the strollers?), and restaurants? Also, where do I go for parades and wishes, etc. Do I have to go to a special place or can I watch from anywhere on the parade route such as main street? This is all so last minute for me, I've been hoping to avoid this but that's not happening. Can anyone help with any quick answers? Btw, I do not want to do an ECV, for one the cost is so much more, but also I don't want to drive it, etc. I do still have to tell my DD too, so hopefully she'll be okay with it. She is used to pushing her friend in a wc so she at least has some experience with this.

Thanks to any who can help with any info! :goodvibes

As far as parking it, you can park it with the wheelchairs, but keep in mind that some of the ques for rides (Soarin) can be 1/4 mile each way, so you might want to keep the wheelchair in the lines.

Thanks! No wonder that walk at Soarin' always seems so long, lol! I had no idea, well I guess I just never really thought about it. What about parking at the stores, like the emporium on Main street? Thanks for any info!

I had to use a WC the last few days of our last trip (I severely sprained my ankle at the hotel) and my family just pushed me around the stores and the ques.

I am an extra large pooh sized person and I could careless what anyone said. This was the only way my family could even enjoy the parks with me. I could not walk. If someone is so concerned about me and what I am doing in a WC at WDW they must not have must really have some sad little lives as there are probably missing so many more interesting things going on other than me in a WC.

Each time I heard someone say something I would say a little prayer in my head for that person that they would be overcome with kindness and gentility to all they crossed paths with the rest of the day. :cloud9:

Thanks! That's really nice of you in regards to those making comments. I know you're right so hopefully I won't let it bother me if I hear things, but it would make me very sad! If I'm not in their way or getting special treatment, don't know why they should care, right?!

The lines for almost all attractions at WDW are "mainstreamed". This means that the queue is set up to allow wheelchairs and/or ECVs to go through the line just as a person without a mobility problem. As it was built prior to the ADA, the Magic Kingdom is most likely to have non-mainstreamed lines. Some attractions, such as Splash Mountain and Haunted Mansion you will go part way through the regular queue and then be diverted. Other attractions, such as Big Thunder Mountain or SpaceShip Earth you will initially be directed to an accessible entrance.

All the theaters are set up with seats (usually in the back row) removed so a wheelchair or ECV can pull into a space and there will be regular seating on either side of the space for the others in the party.

Where there are quantity limits on space, or other limitation involving accessability, you may have to wait longer to see a show or ride an attraction than people without disabilities.

So generally for attractions (shows and rides) you are best off going all the way through the queue in the chair. For rrestaurants you can either bring it in and park in the lobby or leave it in stroller parking. And in sotres there should be no reson to get out of the chair.

For the convenience of everyone - you, your party, and all the other Guests - it's probably most reasonable to, yes, use one of the wheelchair viewing areas for the parade. Just finding a space on Main Street either means others who would have been able to stand/sit where your wheelchair is won't be able to, or won't be able to see, or else you won't get a space on the curb and won't be able to see. You have the option of the designated viewing areas; they don't. Best place: opposite the Liberty Belle entrance.
