Need to Save More Money that I thought....

phooey...thought I was all set, til dh does the "we can't afford to go to Disney we've got too many bills blah blah blah de blah" song and dance. WHAT??? This is the man who was scheming trip #2 on the way home from trip #1. Anywhoo...we've got $2900 to pay off on some small bills then we need to save the money for our next trip. So, think I can do it by April? *pouts* I wanna go to Disney this April!!!
I'm thinkin, that after I finish buying Christmas pressies, practically my whole paycheck will be going towards paying off that debt. Plus, selling everything I own on Ebay.

Just have a plan to pay down your debt and stick to it. We started planning this vacation in January 2006 -- and I was able to have everything paid off in September 2006. It is a wondeful feeling knowing I just need spending money and the rest is already covered..... YOU CAN DO IT!!!

Here's a simple trick I use -- any rebate checks, etc. that come in go right into Disney savings. We also have a Bear Bank (my DD made it) in the kitchen -- any loose change, etc. we have left over we put in there -- you'd be surprised how fast that can add up -- I figure we will get a meal or two out of what we've "collected" over the past 11 months.

Where there's a will....there's a way! Or as my DH says "when it is something YOU want, YOU find a way to make it happen". That's just another reason I love him!

Hey Tink,

Can you trim the Christmas gifts? After our summer disney trip my boys said they really wanted to go again (ok, I'll admit me too). We told them that if we did plan for another trip next year, Christmas would be celebrated without a lot of presents (I kind of like that idea any way). We are trying to stress to them that means, no new bikes, no new video games, no new cell phones. etc, etc.
I also opened up a vacation club for Disney. Whenever I get extra cash, I split it into 2. 1 part goes to any extra bills the other 1/2 goes to the Disney fund. No matter if it's only 5 bucks. You'd be surprise how quickly it adds up.

Go For it.

eliza, yep, I've already decided that I'm cinchin in Santa's belt this year...for a couple of reasons, 1. I wanna go to Disney! 2. My daughter is lucky enough to be an only grandchild for both sets of grandparents, so she'll get bombarded with presents just from them. I've already started saving $20 a week until I get Christmas shopping out of the way, then I'll be able to bump that up more.

Mind if I share a few tips as a newbie?

I find myself in the same situation, yet somewhat peculiar. In about six months time, I had saved about $1500-I kid you not. I made a "Disney Pot" that I decorated with Princess stickers and wrote "Disney Fund January 2008" on it-and all spare change, combined with about $25-$30 out of each check, went in there.

Unfortunately my personal life is in chaos due to escaping a domestic violence home, and I've had to use that money to move 560 miles away, establish a new residence, and keep us fed until I get back to work as an RN. When I get back to work I plan to do the same thing to save for our 2008 trip.

We are going in two days as well; that is a spur of the moment trip. My kids and I have been thru utter hell the last year and as crazy as it seems to some, we deserved an opportunity to go to our "happy place" to bond and celebrate our new beginning.

I agree with the statement someone else made about how easy it is to save for something when it's what you really want. I very rarely, if ever, spend money on myself-it's always for my kids. Therefore it was very easy for me to put all my spare change in the jug, dreaming of the trip to be had in 08.

Sorry for the personal ramble....just wanted to share!!

We're also going to have to pay our trip off pretty soon....we leave Feb 4 . Every time I want to make a payment to the travel agency, something happens. OUR WATER HEATER JUST BROKE !!!!! We have NO hot water and the extra $$$$$ saved will now have to go to our plumber !

I did get a pt job at Kohl's and didn't spend any of the money earned at Kohl's . I'll hope and pray nothing else major breaks down ,until Feb !
