Need to hear from chickens who did Splash Mountain

I have skipped most of the thrill rides at Disney for many years. I have bad motion sickness and don't like drops.

With use of Bonine I can do BTMRR, 7DMT, Dinosaur and recently started going on TT and Soarin'. There are some rides that I just know I'll never enjoy or tolerate, but I'm on the fence about Splash Mountain.

I'm curious to hear from others that may have been afraid of this one or hate drops and rode it anyways. How did it go? Was it better or worse than expected?

My twins are now tall enough to ride and are thrill seekers, so I'm considering trying it so the entire family can go, but I've had myself pumped up before and always chicken out.

My husband is a big chicken but I make him ride this, since it's about the only ride where we can get all 4 of us in a ride pic. He survives every time ;) And he grudgingly gets back on every time, so I think he'd say it's really not that bad. He does NOT get back on Tower of Terror though--he was one and done on that one!! LOL

The ride has a few "drops" that are very small (like Pirates) before the big drop. It looks worse from the outside than it really is (IMHO). You also know when the "big drop" is coming because there will be two vultures on your upper left. You can clearly see the bottom, so that makes it seem not so bad when you are going down. I don't feel the drop at all. It's so much fun! My favorite ride at MK!

Enjoy!

I am a chicken and was afraid to go on Splash - among other Disney rides. I finally got up the nerve to do it. The first time I was scared and couldn't relax because I was anticipating the drop. But... I kept reminding myself that I'm safe and it will be over soon and if I hate it, I won't do it again.
So... it's really not that scary! The drop is so quick. It's over before you know it.
I have been on many times since and now I can actually enjoy all the amazing details!
My advice is...try it! Remember that you are safe. It's really a wonderful ride!
Good luck!

Not a fan of this and Tower of Terror because of the dropping feeling, but agree to do them anyway. However, as bad as it may be, it's over in two seconds and really is a lot of fun. One of my most favorite ride pictures too! I think the next time I go on it I'll enjoy the scenery instead of asking at every turn, "Is this the drop!?" :rolleyes2

I'm extremely scared of heights. I rode Soarin' once, but will not go on it again because even the lowest row of seats is too high for me. I do go on Splash, but I kid you not, I'm freaked out every time. Just before the drop I'm always thinking, WTH am I doing? But, I still go on it over & over, so I must like it. I think if you're on the fence, it's worth trying once.

As a kid, I used to be afraid of any rides that drop or is a roller coaster. It wasn't until I went to WDW last year where I slowly got over my fears. What helped was watching Youtube videos of the ride so I knew what to expect going in. I know for some people that would spoil the ride, but it mentally prepared me for the drops or what was coming next. After riding Splash, BTMRR, Expedition Everest, and SDMM, I realized a lot of my fears were exaggerated as most of the Disney rides are pretty tame compared to theme parks back home. Even the backwards part on Expedition Everest was like nothing to me after dreading it for a long time.

Just take a deep breath and scream at the drops. It definitely helps to distract you from being scared.

Yes, it will be over quick, but I'm not a super fan of this one. Took DS on when he was 3 because he begged to go on it and it did not go well! After several of the smaller drops, he said to us, "This is too much for me!":scared1: My DH and I were so worried the whole time, we couldn't enjoy it. That was my first time as well. That being said, my son is now 9 and we are going to try it this time again after skipping it for the last 2 trips. You aren't 3, and an adult, you will be fine. But keep in mind the last drop is really big. IMO anyway. It's not my fave.

I did it once before they put in the lap bars and it was just ok. I was hyped up over the anticipation. It's much better for me now that I have something holding me in. Maybe I'm nuts, but it helps me. Still haven't braved ToT!

I'm a total chicken. I will never, ever do ToT. I did RnRRC once and my legs were shaking badly at the end - never again. I only did Space Mountain and Splash because my DS really wanted to do them. The whole time I was on Splash I kept thinking, why did I go on this, why, why!!! And . . . it was fine. As PP's mentioned there are a few, small teaser drops which are kind of like the drop in POTC and then the big one which isn't bad and is pretty quick. Take a deep breath, close your eyes, scream, it will be over very quickly.

I was a complete chicken growing up and log flume rides struck fear and terror into my heart. When my boys were tall enough I didn't want my phobias to keep them from experiencing the rides so I told them I would do it with them if they would ride the haunted mansion. They got a big kick urging me to ride and promising that they would also be brave. The ride is adorable and the small drops were manageable. I won't lie, I was seriously stressed about the drop and how ridiculous I would look in the picture. Well, the drop is dramatic but over quickly and my picture was embarrassing but I rode it again the next day for my kids. I still didn't like the drop but wasn't as stressed as the first day. I am glad I did it and shared that experience with my kids.

My mom and DH will not ride any WDW thrill rides and are iffy about Soarin', but they will both ride Splash Mountain

I used to be too afraid to ride this - but I learned a way to get through the drop at the end. I close my eyes, brace myself, and count "One, one hundred, two, one hundred..." etc, up to six, I believe, and the drop is over. makes for some pretty funny ride photos!

I've actually gotten brave enough over the past few years to keep my eyes open at the top, so as not to miss the spectacular view (especially at night) and then keep them open long enough for the ride photo.

I ride Splash. I'm not gonna lie to you, it scares the bejeezus outta me, but my son loves it, and no one else will go on it with him, so I suck it up and do it. The only part that REALLY bothers me is that last big drop. I get a little uneasy on the drop into the show building, but it is tolerable. That last one, I don't breathe until it is over lol. That having been said, I manage to go on it every year, and have done it 3 times in a row with him. In my opinion, the visuals are amazing, it is certainly well worth doing it at least once, even if you never go near it again.

Yes. I am a chicken. NO ToT, RnRC, Space, EE...anything with drops scare me...ever since childhood on the Blue Streak at Cedar Point.
I do however, ride Splash on occasion. For the final drop, I take a quick look at the beautiful view at the top (castle is amazing) and immediately bend my whole body forward toward my lap as far as I can and it seems to "break the fall" for my internal organs!! I live to see another WDW trip and my family is happy I went on the ride!
The rest of the ride is one of the best themed and most enjoyable rides at MK.
I hope someday you will be able to agree! I wish you the best in your decision.

My youngest HATES the drop on Splash. When she was 5, she cried and said she hated it. We brought her when she was 6, since she wanted to try it again.... no... she buried her head on my lap on the small drops and the big drop. Then 4 years later, at 10 years old, she went on it again. Hated the drop just as much and thought it was the worst. We are headed there in a few weeks.... at 12, she is telling me she will do it again for us, but only ONCE. lol

And yet, she wants to try RnRC this time!

I wouldn't ride it for years but my dd begged me to do it with her so I did. Not my favorite but I will do it once each time we go. I do love the theming but still get knots in my stomach for the big drop. Only it's not that big and it's over in a flash. The view from the top before the drop is beautiful. I look, duck my head, and it's over. And I can only hope I don't get soaking wet.

I ride Splash, not because I love the drop, but because the rest of the ride is so cute. The drop is over so quickly, so I just endure it!! :scared:

I hate big rides but my daughter asked me to ride splash and soarin with her. I did but since I am a big chicken I won't do either ever again. I did 7 dwarfs and it was slightly better.

I am such a chicken I almost got out of the log the first time I went on splash mountain.
Don't mind me, you enjoy the ride, I'm just going to take these stairs...
Once i did it I was much less afraid. It does give you that awful belly dropping feeling, but it's over quickly. One thing that helps me feel more comfortable with the ride is knowing that you are going down at a 45 degree angle which is not so steep. They make it look like you are just dropping off the top of a mountain, but it is actually a reasonable downhill slope.
