Need to get rid of kid

OK, here's the problem. We are a family of 6 and have booked 2 rooms. Our friends are going (family of 5) and have booked a category 6 room. Since their room only allows 4 names to be assigned to it we have added one of their kids to our room.
Well, that wasn't the problem, this is. We want to eat dinner as a family of 6. How hard will it be to move the extra kid assigned to us back to their table? Can they do it at the time of seating or should we try to arrange this ahead of time?
Cruise documents list us as a party of 7 & friends as a party of 4.
Make sense?

BTW, we don't want to all dine together.

I would have whoever has the earlier seating go talk to the Head Server on the first dinner or even better go the Dining Changes service on the first afternoon. It will be listed in the Navigator. You can then talk to the dining department and explain the situation. I don't think it would be much of a problem for them to seat one more at your friends table.

I'm just wondering if this is going to cause problems other than the dining one. Everything is done by stateroom number, isn't it? I would think it could get confusing!!

I you do call DCL, I'd approach it like this - we are travelling as a group but want separate tables. One child from the other family is staying in our room but wants to eat with his/her parents. See what they say. It can't hurt to call, as long as you don't say that the child will really be staying with the parents.

Edited to say maybe I was assuming the extra child will be with the parents & not you. I just reread your post & realized you don't say

Just adopt him for the duration of the cruise. Much simpler.

You may want to consider removing charging priveleges from his card just so there aren't any misunderstandings or hard feelings if he runs up a large bill at the arcade or something since it will appear on your bill.

This is off the subject but if someone is booked in your room but will stay in another, which I have no problem with, what about the tip? Tecnically he is in your room, so your room stewart will expect the tip according to his records. Just don't want you to look cheap when you hand out your envelopes, because you aren't responsible for him. Just a thought.

Also, doesn't an arrangement like this affect the safety drill? I would think you're going to have to have their extra kid be with you at your appointed drill post as they are counting the number of people in your party/cabin.

On our cruise, our tablemates had added a friends' child just a few days before embarkation. Our table only seated six, but this additional child made seven. The first night, our servers simply added a chair on the end, but by the next night, our table had magically transformed into an 8-seater.

Of course, as it turned out, one or more of the three kids was always in the Oceaneer's Club at dinner time (except that first night), so we really didn't need the extra chair.

I believe the problem is solved... we called Dreams Unlimited about the change (see first post) and they said it should be no problem to add this child to their parents table for dining. We will just do this on the ship.

We already had the drill planned out as well as the tips- that wasn't a concern. We just didn't want to cause trouble to the servers when we went to the different dining rooms (we are not even sure we will be in the same rotation as our friends - we have 3 older teens and 1 small child and they have 2 other small children).

From the above post and our conversation with Dreams it appears that Disney will just pull up a chair for her so she can dine with her family!

Hi James--we are neighbors!!!!! I'm only a about 2 miles from CH.

I'm not sure if you can do this with the number in the party, but we will have a similar situation next fall. We have booked my daughter in my sister's room. I was told by DCL that when we check-in we can have her moved to our room, key and all. Now that will only put us at 4 in the room so I'm not sure if your friends could do it putting 5 in their room. Will the child be sleeping in one of your rooms, or with his/her family? DCL told me that once you check-in, they don't care which room the child sleeps in (again, we will only have 4) I'm getting my daughter's key to be to our room and not my sister's.

I'm pretty sure you can get a card for this girl to access your room with no charging priviledges and then a card for her parents room with charging priviledges. That should help. She would just have to keep two cards instead of one.
