Need To Compromise With Teenager - Help

I'm having a "mild disagreement" with my daughter (13) on what shoes she should wear in the park and what kind of backpack to carry. Since we are going in August and it will be hot and rainy I thought she should get a pair of comfortable waterproof sandals. She thinks they are uncool and wants only filp flops. Of course she would also be caught dead wearing a fanny pack and intends to carry a heavy hot backpack instead. I know it's important to her how she looks in public but I'm worried she'll end up being uncomfortable and miserable in the park.

Thought I'd come right to the source and ask "Any good suggestions on what we could compromise on?"

Have her carry one of those purse backpacks--that is what I always use... also birkenstocks are what I waer--they have sandals that ARE waterproof.
they are also comfortable and fashionable(in my humble opinion)

I hope I helped!!

I agree with Rachel. The purse backpacks are really fashionable and comfortable. I don't wear Birkenstocks I wear tennis shoes but Birkenstocks are a good idea and they are cute.

this is nightmare21rock by the way, my sister's name won't log off
anyway, i carried a purse through disney that was black and pink and came with a few buttons attached on it. i got it at old navy for $12.50, but it was well worth it. everything fit inside of it. don't get me wrong, it wasn't huge, it was a normal sized purse. plus it was very stylish.....lol. and personally, i think flip flops are uncomfortable to be walking in around disney. sorry, but i have to agree that i wouldn't be caught dead with a fanny pack or waterproof sandals!!!!!!!!! i just got some adidas tennis shoes. no sandals. she can also resort to a smaller backpack. thats wut my sister had. :teeth: i hope you guys can compromise :teeth:

Definately Purse backpack and lightweight Adidas or Nike Sandals :wave2:

I would let her wear whatever she wants to wear. I would also tell her that you won't tolerate her complaining if she's uncomfortable. Either way, you are probably going to have a disagreement. It's much easier to withhold your sympathy in August than to make both you and her miserable for the next few months. :)

i suggest u get her a drawstring bag to put over her back. thay are small, light and you can get all types of colour/style. :rotfl: :) and if she wants to wear flip flops let her. thay are comfy and stylish :flower:

hey lol im 13 and ya i wouldnt want to wear water shoes no offense id rather wear flip flops too! id just let her wear flipflops cuz u can just take em off n e ways and for a backback cuz i wouldnt want to wear a fanny pack either get her a mini backback shed like or a drawstring backpack i have one i use it for gym and its great id bring it to disney but i got it last week and i went last year so.. lol

just tryin to help,
Jess

I'm 13 too! I love drawstring backpacks. They are easy your back and the have ample space to place lots of items in it. As for the water shoe thing I think that you should let her wear flip flops and before you leave make her wear them and go on a walk with her and see if they bother her feet or give her blisters this could make her go either way.

i am not thirteen but like 12 i woulg get some of those like synthetic grass bottomed flip flops they ARE waterproof and a little backpack ............ it is true no fanny pack uck thats not right (4 your daughter)

I wouldnt wear anything other than sneakers in Disney. My feet always end up hurting. And I used a backpack purse when I was in Disney. :)

Same here I always wear sneakers but the only thing about the bag is that since my brother is always in a stroller I can just put my bag in there so I don't have to carry it around.

I've used a mini backpack just about every trip to disney, except for last week's trip. I bought a rather large purse at old navy and carried it around, and it worked just as well. I've used drawstring backpacks before too. All of these are great options.

As for footwear, I almost always just wear tennis shoes that "breathe". The only time this was a problem is when it was storming in epcot and there were literally pools of water to walk through, so my sneakers were soaked. But they were dry by the next morning, so everything worked out fine. Some girls are most comfortable in flip flops, although I definitely like sneakers the best.

I wore flip flops when I was disney last month, and even though my feet killed at the end of each day, every other girl my age (15) seemed to be wearing them so i'd definitely let her wear them. For a backpack i'd bring one of those teeny drawstring nike bags.

I'd wear tennis shoes. They're more comfortable and you don't ever get wet at Disney so your feet will stay dry. As for the bag, I suggest http://img178.exs.cx/my.php?loc=img178&image=untitled7ke.pngThey're 'stylish' and comfortable to carry. I've got several and I use them a lot.
