Need to cancel "Welcome Home" trip -- Need advice

We are new DVC members and have a 11/1-11/8 Welcome Home booking for Riviera. My wife found out she needs surgery so we need to rebook the vacation. I checked DVC calendar and Jan-May is literally booked. I know there are rooms set aside for "Welcome Home". Is my best course of action to call DVC to get "Welcome Home" rebooked?

Unfortunately, DVC does not usually help with the rebooking of a Welcome Home trip. The whole purpose of it is to aid a member in getting that first room booked when they are within the 7 month window and things are booked, just so they can get their first trip in.

You can certainly call, but will be subject to the same availability as the rest of owners.

You can try. They may not be willing to do anything special because they already scheduled a welcome home visit. However, if you explain, you may get some pixie dust. Good luck!

Whatever you end up doing be sure you get 11/1-11/8 canceled 30 days before check in because you don’t want to be stuck w/ holding points.

I am glad you brought this up. DVC Member Services is allowing me to cancel the day before (10/31) without penalty.

I'm sorry your wife needs surgery. I imagine you are looking forward to your first stay at Riviera, but if you can't get there, you can go for Poly or whatever resort you want to try. I hope you can get something you will enjoy. Good luck.
