I am just so upset. My son had this nasty virus last week (4 days fever and then 2 days of really bad coughing). My husband came down with it this past Sunday and my daughter just got it! We were suppose to leave tomorrow! Everything is packed, reservations made, touring plans made, decorations made and even on-line check in! My DD had a 102.7 this morning so there is no way we are going tomorrow...:sad2:

Needed some advice. I didn't get trip insurance, unfortunately. So do you know if
1) I could cancel and use the $ for a trip later this summer?
2) Cancel completely and get some refund?
3) Or should I try to aim and go on Sunday instead of tomorrow (Thursday)? We drive, so we don't have to worry about air.
:confused3 :confused3
Help!

I wouldn't panic yet. Wait and see how she is feeling tomorrow and decide then. If she is anything like my DD she could very well be ifne tomorrow and you will have changed all your plans for nothing. I can't imagine you needing to wait untill sunday to travel unless she still has vomiting ect. She may be washed out, but your travel day can be a rest day for her. You will after all just be driving. I would say hit the road as soon as she stops vomiting and the fever is below 101. At this point plans have been made and you cannot get a refund. Worst case if she is absolutely too sick to go to the parks one of you can stay in the room while the other goes and switch the next day. I know my DD would rather be at Disney coughing than sit home. Once the fever is gone she would be safe to tour if she felt up to it. I would not cancel my trip over this.

:scared1: WHAT? no,please do not take your family if they are that sick...this is how other people get sick and they will not have fun feeling bad.:sick:I would call and ask that you push your trip back a few days, they will work with you sometimes and if they have the room they will move the days.
. I have had to move a trip back before and they moved it back without even charging me(i never get the insurance) with all this stuff with swine flu going around they will be willing to work with you some how...but please do not spread it around, think of other peoples kids and you would not want your kids to catch something because they just HAD to make the trip.

Everyone might be feeling fine and fever free for over 24 hours by Friday or Saturday or Sunday. I think you should call and see if you can push it back to Saturday or Sunday at least. I agree with pp that they are likely to work with you if they have the room. :goodvibes Sending good well prayers to your house! Hope you all get better quick and have a great trip after all!

Has something changed, I always thought the cancellation policy from 5 days till trip was $200 on a package and only the one night for room only. It would be worth $200 for me to have healthy family with travel. I would definately call.

I may take a flogging for saying this, but I would still go. You may have to alter your plans for the first couple of days while everyone recuperates, but I'd rather be sick at WDW than at home. ;) Also, kids bounce back so quickly; your daughter might be fine by tomorrow.

Your biggest challenge may be to slow down! I recently took just my 11 year old son to WDW and I promised to do what he wanted. We've been to WDW many times and will go again. It turns out that what he wanted most to do was spend time at the pool, and chill in the room. I was chomping at the bit to get to the parks, so I had to make more than one attitude adjustment to keep my promise!

Thank you all so much for your input. :) I called Disney Travel and they totally worked with me. :thumbsup2 I transferred it to a new booking for July 4th week. We couldn't get the same rates of course, but it was about the same. Heck it will be a little warmer (we have been there at this time before), but everyone will be healthy. FYI, it would have been $200 to just cancel and $50 to change. We are lucky that our jobs allow us to change our vacation days so easily. Thank you all so much for your help.

I was heartbroken for you all when I read your original post. Glad you were able to change it! I'm sending wellness pixie dust your way! :)

I just want to say THANK YOU for moving your trip and not bringing your ill family to spread it around.

I'm SO sorry you had to do that, but you all will have more fun with everyone healthy. I can't imagine taking sick people to walk around in the heat.

Oh, I'm so glad you were able to reschedule it!! I hope your dh and kids are all feeling better and I sure hope mom doesn't catch it now!!! Have a wonderful vacation!:flower3:

I'm sorry but that is just plain selfish! And honestly, I would not rather be sick in WDW than at home and I doubt that anyone else would either. Really, who the heck wants to be sick in Disney while on vacation?!? :confused3 I'd much rather be sick at home in my bed.

I totally agree very selfish. How fair is it to go and spread it to more people?

I am glad you worked it out

Gee...spread a bad virus around WDW...What a brilliant idea! Who cares about everyone else! It's all about ME!

No one is going to get infected by them in their hotel room and the child would no longer be contagious once they are fever free. Once the fever breaks the viral load is typically down below the level where you are capable of infecting anyone else. You are actually much more contagious before you begin to show symptoms and in the first 24 hours after becoming ill. Your viral load is highest just before you beginb to show symtoms. Once you have a fever your body is fighting the infection and your viral load is dropping. There is no reason to stay home if they are up to making the trip. It is highly unlikely that they would infect anyone else on the tail end of an infection when their viral load is down to almost nothing. I would be much more worried about the people they came into contact with BEFORE they felt ill. So no I would not even consider cancelling a trip due to this kind of thing as I KNOW I would not be a danger to anyone. Sorry for the long post, but the biochemistry major in me feels the need to explain this kind of thing as I did undergad research on the topic of human immune responses

this isn't always true with stomach bugs they can be passed after the fever and they can be contagious without a fever

Those of you who are SO AGAINST going to WDW while sick, I hope you also don't leave your house to go to work, or the grocery store, or the post office, etc. Isn't that really the same thing? A public place is a public place. If you've ever gone out of the house while sick, then you have no business being so high and mighty about this situation. What about people who get sick while at WDW? Should they leave in the middle of their trip and eat the cost of the remaining trip days?

Like another poster said, you are the most contagious before you show symptoms. So there are probably a lot of people walking around Disney, not even aware of the fact they are spreading a virus. That is the chance you take when you go on vacation.

Life happens, and sometimes you have to go out in public with other people when you're sick.

To the OP - I am sorry about your trip and I am glad you were able to reschedule it. But I would not have faulted you if you had gone this week.:wizard:

There is a big difference between going to WDW and going to run an errand that has to be done. WDW is a vaction not a have to thing. So no I don't think we need to get over it. I don't send my kids to daycare sick and if Im sick I stay home.
