We need to purchase a new washing machine. Don't want to spend more than $425. Not looking for lots of bells and whistles just mainly interested in one with a very large capacity.

We have an older model Maytag, it was here in the house when we moved in 12 years ago and I could tell even then that it was not a new model.... the thing won't die!!! The only problem is, is that it just won't hold a lot. I was thinking of getting another Maytag, but was reading up on washers and it seems that the newer models are not all that great.

So anyway was considering maybe a Kenmore or a Whirlpool. I also read somewhere that Whirlpool makes some Kenmores, anyone know about that?

Anyway, let me know what you think. What kind do you have?

I just bought a new Whirlpool washer & dryer. The washer has a super plus setting....great for throw rugs and comforters. I forget the capacity, but I'm only 5' tall, and I barely can reach the bottom of the tub. And it was priced at $370. I've had many Whirlpool appliances over the years and always had good luck with them. My daughter has that nasty Magtag Neptune set, but she hasn't had a problem yet in 2 years.

Kenmore Elite....we've replaced all of our appliances with Kenmore Elite's...LOVE THEM! From the stove, to the fridge, even the cooker outside!

Washer and Dryer are great too!

DO NOT BUY A MAYTAG NEPTUNE!!!!

We just bought one in Sept and it broke on Tuesday. The control panel board went out. I am so mad I did not get a Kenmore! <a href='http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008' target='_blank'><img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/4_3_5.gif' border=0></a>

Whirlpool does make Kenmore. In September I purchased the Kenmore front loading washer and dryer (HE 3T's). They are extremely energy efficient and use an amazingly small amount of water. I managed to get these on sale, with an additional percentage off for purchasing them, free delivery and no interest (if using a Sears Card) for a year. Couldn't refuse.

I had a Kenmore before and loved it. Would still have it, but didn't want to pay to move it to Florida when I relocated.

I don't remember my brand or anything, but I really, really like one feature. My washer has a handwash setting - it's great for my, um, delicates, as well as the light blankets we have and DH's flight uniforms. I reccommend the handwash setting! :teeth:

Very happy with my front-load Kenmore purchased last year.

Only drawback (but not a real big deal) is the "aggressive" spin cycle which tends to vibrate the 1st floor laundry area (would be perfect on cement slab or basement area, tho.). Makes up for it with high capacity, lower water usage/detergent, & the aforementioned spin cycle makes for faster drying.

Denise < --- owned a Whirlpool for 20 yrs before that...just needed a smaller scale for condo so went with the Kenmore.

Thanks for the responses everyone. Cassie, I'm only 4'11" so I may have to get a step stool just to do laundry :) if I get one of those super capacity washers!

DVC are all Kenmore's made by Whirlpool, I thought I read somewhere that some are and some aren't?

I also read that it is a good idea to check out the Sears Outlet stores, that you can get a good deal on a scratch and dent.
