Thank you everyone for your kind words and hugs. This has been such a hard day/week and I really appreciate the thoughts.
We had an EAP come to the clinic today to do some crisis counseling and we set up a memorial table for my co-worker. It's going to be a long process of working through this.

Oh ugh..I'm so sorry that you had to go through this too. I can completely understand the depths of depression where even just breathing seems to take too much effort. I was there myself many many years ago. However, even with how depressed I was, I knew that one day I'd feel better AND I didn't want to hurt my family or friends by taking my own life.

I think my co-worker forgot or wasn't able to comprehend how many lives she's impacted and how her death would effect us. I'll never forget her and I certainly will never forget how she died. I just wish I had had a chance to tell her in person just how much she meant to me.

I am living through this right now. If you take a glance at my signature you will see who I am missing. Through therapy I have learned that suicide is not a selfish act, it is a desperate act of a sick person. Rational people don't do this and we always have such a difficult time trying to make sense of it. The sad fact is, it does not make sense and you have to love the person no matter what. Take comfort in knowing that they are happy and at peace now.

Sometimes those we are close to are very good at hiding the pain and what they are going through. You have nothing to feel the need to recriminate yourself for.

second- don't beat yourself up. I am so sorry for your loss. It is a truly horrible thing to have to deal with and I pray you find comfort and peace. Maybe being in the 'profession', she knew how to hide her feelings better than most as to not arouse suspicion and she was extra cautious around you guys? I don't know- I know i am one that tends to hide my emotions sometimes and put on a happy face to the outside world. I hope you all can find some peace soon though. lots of prayers your way!

Thanks again everyone. I can't tell you how much I appreciate the support. My co-workers family is coming to visit the clinic tomorrow and clean out her office. We're also closing the clinic on Wednesday to go to her memorial service. I'm so grateful to work in a clinic that understands the grieving process and have a boss that is making these clinic adjustments to help the rest of the staff recover from this.

You could not have known, no way, no how. Professionally, I often have experience with mentally ill persons and the consumers who announce they are suicidal usually are not serious (notice I said usually, every threat should always be taken seriously because you never know). But the vast majority of consumers who did commit suicide, we had no warning, no notice, no inkling. They were serious about ending their life and did not want anyone to stop them. And they were successful. Sadly so. Hug your dear hubby close and your sweet new baby closer.
