Hi! I've been browsing around here for a few months and stubbled here... I'm extremely over weight and I'm fed up with my body and I want to make a change somehow, but all fails... I'm trying something new this time around... to speed up my motabolism, so I have to give up bread, pasta, brown chicken meat and the list goes on... but I still have a lot of choices, so I'm not so put down... but I quit to easily... I need support somewhere, even only in words... I have at least 100 pounds to lose... I am going to Disney in Jan 07 and I want a new body to go there and not be ashame to get onto rides and wonder if I fit... right now I'm at 260 and 5'6"... hope I can lose a few pounds before my trip...
We'll keep you posted... :guilty:

:grouphug: Accountability really is the key, it's always been easier for me to lose weight when a friend is doing it with me. You can do it!! One thing I learned from weight watchers that helped me is writing down what you eat, sometimes it's easy to forget what we've eaten as we go through the day. :thumbsup2

Great idea... I'll write everything down...like that if I cheat I'll see what I did wrong... maybe it will keep me on track...thank's

You can do it. That's the first thing you have to tell yourself, and until you can believe it yourself, we will all believe it for you.
I did WW a couple of years ago and I found that measuring portions and journaling really worked for me. I was eating twice as much cereal in the morning than I should have, because the bowls were big! Now, I have a measuring cup right there and eat only 1 cup. Meat servings are about the size of my palm, and I started using salad plates to help the portions not look so small. I also love the 100 calorie pack snacks for work lunches, it gives me just enough to get the flavor. Those tricks are still working for me and helping me get rid of post-surgery weight gain.
The other thing that works long term is exercise. Start slow, so you don't get injured and frustrated. It's more important that you keep moving consistently than it is to work really hard one day and can't move for 3.
My worst eating time is the evenings after work, so I took up piano, with my hands on the keys I can't put food in my mouth. My teacher has a few adults now, mostly Moms of the kids she teaches. I told her she should advertise lessons as a diet aid! One of my friends started knitting and that worked well for her too. I have another friend who plays video games. Finding something to keep your mind and hands busy really helps.
Set small goals for each day or each week, so you aren't looking at the whole thing-which can be overwhelming.
OK, I'm off the soapbox-I hope that at least one idea works for you!

I wanted to chime in and echo the words of encouragement you have already received. I know for me support was/is key. I feel off the wagon and have gained back 20 of the 110 pounds I lost and one big reason is I stopped coming to WISH everyday. Being accountable is so important!

My one big piece of advice (and one I have to keep reminding myself of) is to take this journey ONE DAY AT A TIME. When you have a lot of weight to lose it can seem almost overwhelming, at least it seemed that way to me. I couldn't even imagine losing 50 pounds so trying to lose over 100 seemed impossible but I kept stringing together one successful day at a time. I didn't think about the mistakes of yesterday or what might lay ahead tomorrow. I can resist a donut, cupcake or french fry today. That's all I have to do. Drink my water, eat clean and work out today. We can both do anything we have to do for ourselves today, right?

Come here often for support. The people on WISH are awesome cheerleaders and want you to succeed!

Can I sign up for support? I did WW several years ago with my co-workers, and it was such a big help! We all went to meetings together, and it kept us honest. My mom was also on WW, and that was a huge help.

I started Atkins yesterday, and it wasn't as hard as I remembered it being. I have to get some weight off, I am tired of it, so that is a good motivator. But support is so important.

Did I mention that DH should have been married to Little Debbie? Not a lot of help there.

Good Luck!!! :cheer2:

Weight loss is never easy. Keep in mind when you are not losing pounds you may be losing inches as your skin starts to shrink back. When you seem to stop loosing don't give up, just wait it out.

I too have about 90 lbs to lose for my total goal. I am doing WW though and LOVE it. They help you set small goal instead of looking at the whole total weight loss you want. I am working toward my first 10% (they have you lose 10% of your first weigh in weight to start). I have lost 8 lbs and have 15 more to go :)

You have to be accountable for what you feed your body too. I tend to use a salad plate when dishing up food, it's harder to overfill and I don't like to go back for seconds, except on salad.

Drink water!!!! I had a hard time with this until I discovered Crystal Lights to go. Small packets of flavor for a 16 to 20 oz bottle of water. I love the Rasberry Lemonade....YUMMY... It helps me get in my target of 80 oz of water a day. I have a 20 oz bottle I refill 4 times a day.

Hang in there, you can do it!!!! :thumbsup2

Thank's a lot guys, it helps to know that I'm not alone to do this... I had lost 9 pounds, but for a few weeks the pounds did not come off anymore and I got discourage... so I started to eat again... chips and diet coke, fries and hamburgers.... I feel so guilty now... So I decided to start again... this morning I had a bowl of oatmeal and half a can of tuna... and yes I have to measure everything... the salad plate is a great idea... thank's for the support and I'll be back everyday to keep getting inspired by all of you....

AGAIN Thank you so much..... I feel on top of the world right now :cool1:

oh! I drink a lot of water... I put a little lemon juice in with a packet of sugar twin, in a 4 cup bottle... so I drink 3 of these to get my 12 cups a day... that's a lot of water ha! ha! me and my bathroom are getting to be best friends ha! ha! :rotfl:

Nathalie - glad to hear you are feeling on top of the world! You should! You decided to something for yourself and that's taking care of your health. You can do this and we are here to help you!

Stephanie - I followed an Atkins/South Beach blend and that's pretty much how I lost all my weight. Getting the sugar out of your system is the hardest part and then it's smooth sailing. I convinced my husband to follow the plan with me and surprisingly he did! He lost 50 pounds. He has pretty much gained it all back (partly do to me falling off the wagon) but he has lost interest in low carb long before I did. I can't get him to recommit but the days of me buying BJ's giant chocolate chunk cookies are over. If he wants them he will have to buy them for himself and I know he will feel too guilty bringing tempting food in the house around me (heehee). Anyway, we can support each other! I started a sort of informal "get back on the wagon" thread for support if you want to join us, we'd love to have you.

It started off as a good day yesterday... but at night I had a bowl of popcorn, which I'm not suppose to have and a diet coke... so I'm not happy with myself... but on the other hand I had my 12 cups of water and did not cheat all day...
So ok, day 2 is here and I had a fabulous day... no cheat all day and kept to my small portions and my 12 glasses of water... and I don't feel the urge of eating more... so I'm now happy...
Here is what I had today:
half a cup of cubed potatoes and half a can of tuna for breakfast (yeah sounds weird but on the 6 week plan that's what I can eat)
for lunch I had a stir fry with tuna and string beans and over half a cup of rice
and for diner: I made mashed potatoes (half a cup) and lean meat balls in a tomato sauce and fried mushrooms (cooked in fat free non stick spray) ha! it was very good... for a snack tonight I might have a salad with balsamic vinigar and lemon juice... :rotfl:

Popcorn’s okay, you can’t restrict yourself of everything you love, you have to eat pasta every now and then, or eat some cake. If you totally cut everything you love out of you life, chances are you might end up bingeing. The weight wont just drop off either, diets do work, you just have to keep to them, it's not a one week, or even six month thing. You must excerise, just walk thirty minitues a day, and watch your portion sizes. If you’re still eating the same portion sizes but different things you won’t loose much weight.

So stick to a diet AND exercise plan, indulge yourself every now and then, and don’t eat greasy fast food. Fast food is bad for you, period; even the salads have sugar in them. Another thing that works for me is every tine I want to snack I get a popsicle, or some Almonds (very good for you, and can help you loose weight), instead of a Little Debbie cake. Yes popsicles have sugar in them, but they are not nearly as bad as a Twinkie.

Just don’t give up, the weight WILL come off, in May take a while, but it will come off. If I can loose weight so can you. The banana shall give you confidence.
