Hi everyone, long time no see.... been busy working at my new job.

Anyway, need some recommendations for, preferably, suite hotels in Williamsburg. Looking at:
Residence Inn
Comfort Suites
Quality Suites

But if you've stayed any other place that was great, I'll listen :) Thanks!

Oh my gosh, where have you been? Long time, no see!
I haven't stayed but have looked at the website for the quality suites and it looks like a pretty nice place.

Hope your new job is going great!

Denise:)

I've stayed in a suite at the Quality Inn very near to Busch Gardens. The web site portrays the property better than it is. The hotel has been added onto--we were in the newer part of the hotel. The suite was 2 large rooms separated by a kitchen area, with fridge and microwave, vanity area, and bathroom. The suite we were in did not have a sofa bed, nor were there doors between the rooms, just large openings, so no putting the kids down and going to watch TV--sound carried. The pool area was very small. The Residence Inn is fairly new and located in a very congested area--lots to walk to (although if you stay there, DO NOT eat at the Applebees located very near this hotel--TERRIBLE service all 3 times we tried it--3 strikes and you're out) Do eat at the steakhouse across the street--Yorkshire--excellent food and service. I didn't see any Comfort Suites located in Williamsburg--just Comfort Inns with Suites--most of the Comfort Suites aren't suites at all--just rooms with sofas, and a small divider. We've stayed at the Embassy Suites--good location, and nice hotel--the breakfast bar had a tendency to get crowded--but there were lots of places to sit once you got your meal--indoor pool only with sun area outside. There is also a very nice Homewood Suites located about 1/2 mile from the Embassy Suites, but it has always been a bit more than I wanted to spend. Next trip, I plan on renting a timeshare--they're almost as reasonable for a week as a suite.

We have stayed several times at the Embassy Suites in Williamsburg and have had a excellant time their with no problems at all(and cant wait to stay there this summer). The rooms are nice sized, they have a great breakfast(krispy kreme donuts yeah!!) and a very nice indoor pool. I would highly recommend this hotel if visiting Williamsburg!!!

I am not sure if they have suites or not, but the Williamsburg Inn is a very beautiful place and is in Colonial Williamsburg itself, literally in the middle of the historic district. Grand and gracious Southern hospitality at its finest. A "don't miss" palce to eat is "Chowning's Tavern"...the brunswick stew is to die for!! Have fun!

You might want to look into the Marriot's Manor Club at Ford Colony in Williamsburg. We had been planning on staying there in August (won a cruise so we did that instead :teeth: ). I received a decent AAA rate for a 2BR unit. A friend of DH's had stayed there and highly recommended it. I can't remember if I booked it through AAA or Marriott.

We stayed at Country Inn and Suites. It was under two years old and everything still looked new. Nice deluxe continental breakfast and it was reasonably priced. 10 minutes to Colonial Williamsburg and Busch gardens. :)

Im bumping this up as their is a similiar thread on page one!!!

I posted right after the holidays and didn't get much response. But from what I've dug up so far, the best places are either the Marriott Manor Club Timeshare and the Embassy Suites.

I've got ressies in the Embassy Suites in July for $119 at a goverment rate. However, DH is a TX state employee and not a VA state employee so I could be rejected on site and pay $179. When I called the hotel direct, I was not given the $119 rate, so I'm looking for a back up.

My parents and my sister's family will be staying at the Marriott MC. There is not enough room for us so we've got to stay elsewhere. The best rates I'm getting is around $1000/week but we can only stay 5 nights. I feel jipped not being able to use all 7 nights.

I am looking for a suite type with a kitchen. So far the best price has been at the Country Hearth Inn and Suites Capitol Motel located 1/2 from the visitor center. If you call direct: 1.800.368.8383, you'll get a lower price than their nationwide reservation desk see:

http://www.countryhearth.com/index.shtml

For the same days, I was quoted $45 as suppose to $99. This is a 2 room suite with a kitchen stocked with dishes, flatware, and cookware along with stove and fridge. They offer free breakfast, too. (Definetely cold stuff!!) I could not believe it for the price!!!

However I can not find any opinions on this place so I am a little leary. The man said that every room was renovated just less than 2 year ago. The area is older than the area near the Embassy Suites.

If you are going before July, could you stop by there and check it out for me, PLEASE!!! I had a back up plan to my ES ressie at the Holiday Inn Hotel Patriot for $90/night. I researched opinions at this location and it had not received good reviews. One talked about ants, one talked about roaches, and one smelled urine. There were only 2 favorables but they statyed only for 2 nights max. So I cancelled my ressie here.

I'm keeping my eyes peeled for specials at the ES.

If you are going to Washington DC, I recommend Arlington Suites at Arlington, VA. This is near a metro line, with free parking, free breakfast, outdoor pool, guest laundy, 1BR with seperate living quarters, full kitchen at $75/night. They received raving reviews as a family suite hotel.

Please let me know what you've decided.

Also can somebody post where we can get discount admission tickets to Busch Garden, Water Country, Colonial Williamsburg, Yorktown, and Jamestown. I'm hoping that a nearby grocery, McD's, AAA... offers lower prices than at the gate.

Thanks,

MMCD

There are package tickets for Busch Gardens/Water County available from Busch Gardens, Colonial Williamsburg is run by a foundation, and the best discount tickets I know of are residents passes. For regular tourists like me, they offer one day, multi day and different levels of entry. (Or they did the last time I was there 2 years ago). You should also be able to get a combo Yorktown/Jamestown Victory Pass. There are 2 areas of Jamestown, also. The Fort, which is being dug and discovered and the Island, where the glassblower is. Both have admission, the Island is a National Park, the Fort is not. I have never seen any "discount admission" adverts for theose areas, but you could go to the website for Billsburg and Busch, if there are any to be had, they would list them there. There are very few "free" places to see anymore, mostly the shops. It is sad that you can't walk around and see everything, they have even fenced off some of it. But the bus transport is excellent from the visitor center.

My older sister lives in Williamsburg, and I will try to pry some info out of her, but she is not the fastest on the answers. But I will bug her and PM you if anything comes of it.

If you decide to eat in the restored area, Kings Arms Tavern had really good food, as do all the others. Try the peanut soup, it is great.

Have a great time, it will be hot and humid. I love the coasters in Busch Gardens, too.

Mickeyfan1,

I have a National Park pass that will allow me free entry to any of the National parks. But if there are "usage" fees, I'd have to pay for that.

Is it worth going into any of the paid admissions (not covered in the National Parks) in J and Y? My 12yo is a war buff. He's into battlegrounds and fort - not really into plantation life. We will already be coming from Mount Vernon and Monticello sites. So would we be sick of J and Y?

We definetely want to go to BG and WC. I can see us doing Wburg at least 1 day. But I'm not sure if we'd want to go again into the paid museums again.

I've seen w-burg.org/net and history.org. But I don't see where they go into details about J and Y's admission ticket in detail of what to see. Does W-burg offer any bus pass for transportation inside the historical district? Is this place stroller friendly?

Please, please e-mail me directly (if you don't mind) once you get info from your sister.

Thank you,

MMCD

Here is what I have dug up for our trip in December - we got a GREAT rate as the Four Points Sheraton on York Street - just a few blocks from Colonial Williamsburg and about a mile or so from Busch Gardens. It's a 2 bedroom with a kitchen (which is what we were looking for so we could cut our food costs down some.

To get tickets you can go to these sites -

www.colonialwilliamsburg.com (click on visit)

For other passes as well as a pass that will get you in Colonial Williamsburg, Yorktown and Jamestown as well as passes to Busch Gardens, etc. go to

http://williamsburghotel.com/attractions/tickets_show_all.asp
This site also has hotel information on it.

http://www.visitwilliamsburg.com/
This site has some great info about the Williamsburg area and other attractions as well as restaurants, shopping (the Pottery Factory area is an outlet shopping and has some AWESOME deals at some of the shops - but there also is a lot of junk there too - it's like a giant flea market but with some name brand stores - Pfaltzgraff, Black and Decker, etc. There are also several outlet malls around that area too.

I just found these sites the last couple of days after we made our ressies for Christmas.

Mickeyfan1,

Can you please ask your older sister about Country Hearth Inn. IS this a nice, roach-free, CLEAN place? I'm told it's near the old industrial part of W-burg. The area is not that pleasing compared to other areas in W-burg,

Thanks,

MMCD

We just got back on 6/21 from a 5 night stay. We rented two different timeshares online. The first one was on Orbitz and was the Sunterra Powhatan Plantation for $117/night. It was ok and definitely more room than a suite hotel. The grounds were nice, but we were in an older unit that could have used some updating.

For the remainder of our stay we lucked out and got a 4 night stay at King's Creek Plantation which is located beside Water Country USA. It was about a 10-15 minute drive from all the major attractions. It was gorgeous. We rented a 2 BR and it looked exactly like it was on the web site. Here's a link to a tour of the cottage. http://www.ontheline.com/kpc1/cottage360.html

We were flexible on our dates and got our stay for $325 total! Not per night, but total! Fill out the online form and Mr. Nelson Lewis will contact you. We stayed directly across from the basketball and tennis courts. There is a great outdoor pool and you can buy discounted tickets right at the front desk.

There were 2 BR (1 King and 2 Twins), 2-1/2 baths (each bedroom had their own), a washer/dryer, a full kitchen and a large screen TV. There were grills available. This helped us save alot of money by cooking "at home".

Hope this helps! Here some pictures for anyone who is interested.

I forgot to add that we were not required or bugged about listening to a sales pitch at either resort.

dtuleya,

Your link works but all the other links within are error messages. So there is no way to fill out a form on line.

Sorry, I accidentally posted pics from a "members only" timeshare group. (Dumb me!)

Here are some pics that everyone can view.

Here's the toll free number. You must leave a message and Mrs. Lewis returns calls between 4 and 11 PM.

Here's the link for the online form.

I also wanted to mention that we did not do the timeshare vacation packages that they promote. These packages put you up in a Days Inn across from the resort and they want you to listen to a sales presentation. We just rented a timeshare.

Were you guys able to do Jamestown Settlement and Yorktown Victory Center all in one day? We have the National Park pass to see the Yorktown Battlefield & Visitor Center and Historic Jamestown for free. Is it worth it to see JS and YVC?

I've settled on Sheraton 4 points 2 BR suite. They'll honor my 50%+ off room rack rate of $109/night. There is no free breakfast but there is a full kitchen.

My boys enjoyed Jamestown so much more than Colonial Williamsburg. They actually have reenactments and people who are in character. My boys said later they wished we would have just gone to Jamestown since they learned so much more there.

Dtuleya,

Which Jamestown? Historic Jamestown operated by the National Parks or Jamestown Settlement operated by the city of Jamestown?

Did you do Yorktown on the same day also?
