DH complains that our current coffee maker doesn't brew/keep coffee HOT enough, so I'd like to get him a new one for Chrsitmas. I've been looking at the Cuisinart with thermal carafe - any opinions? We just need to brew, not grind.

Thanks for your suggestions!

Look for an offer from Gevalia for a free coffee maker. You will have to make an initial purchase of coffee along with it, but uyou can cancel the automatic sending at any time.

Before I replaced it with a Keurig, I had a Krups machine with the thermal carafe. I'm sorry I do not know the model number but it did brew and stay hot for several hours...there was a timer to set the length of time the hot plate under the carafe would stay active (up to an hour after brewing stopped, I believe) and then the thermal carafe kept the liquid hot for at least 2 hours beyond that. I liked it well enough. :confused3

We have the cuisinart with thermal carafe. We love it. It literally keep the coffee hot all day. We've actually had 2 family members buy one after using ours!

Now if I could actually figure out the programming, I'd be all set!

Don't get the Cuisinart. I didn't have the one with the carafe so I can't comment on that. The one I had was terrible. Coffee was never hot enough and the amount of water I put in was never close to what came out.

I ended up buying a cheapie Hamilton Beach that I've had now for six years and works like a charm.

what about a coffee press? He would be guaranteed a fresh, very hot, cup of coffee. It does not stay warm, but that initial pot would be hot.

I used to love nosing around this site:

Like anything else, everyone has different preferences and opinions. I prefer my Bunn. My neighbor has a Cuisanart. She loves hers and is very happy with it, I love mine and am very happy with it.

Funny, we are looking for a new one too. Something with a timer and that will brew about 40oz of coffee (two 20 oz to-go cups worth). I've looked into Kuerig and I don't like the whole "one cup at a time" thing, or being limited to the brands available in K-cups. Although I just found out that Green Mountain does have some fair trade varieties, so that's a plus.

another vote for Keurig, hot fresh coffee everytime. You can get good deals on them at Bj's or Costco

My husband also likes his coffee HOT! We had the cuisinart with the thermal carafe and though I thought it was perfect, it was never hot enough for my husband. The only way to get it hot enough was to fill it with hot water and dump just prior to brewing. It made such good coffee though, that we kept it until it died... We now have a Gevalia, (which also doesn't brew coffee hot enough for him), but are considering buying another cuisinart as we can't afford a Bunn, which he says brews coffee the perfect temperature...:sad2:

Another vote for Keurig. We don't drink a ton of coffee, so it's really nice to be able to make just a cup at a time.

Between my in-laws and I we have tried several types of thermal carafe coffee makers and never found one we were happy with. We both have Keurigs now and are happy with them. Even if the coffee stays hot, there is a noticeable difference between hot and fresh and hot and been around for a while.

I would really recommend just looking for a good thermal carafe or thermos type of container and transfer the coffee to it right after it is brewed. I have had some fairly inexpensive carafes that would keep things hot for hours and hours.

I have this and love it but if you have someone that likes REALLY HOT coffee, it won't be for them. It brews at a perfect drinking temperature for me but I don't like to scald my tongue drinking coffee either. If there is coffee left over from the day before, it will still be lukewarm in the pot the next morning :thumbsup2. I am going to hazard a guess that ever since the McDonald's coffee incident/lawsuit that coffee pot manufacturers have scaled back how hot the machines brew.

Used commercial Bunn machines are easy to find on sites like Craigslist and at used office furniture outlets. Businesses often buy them for their breakrooms, so when the company goes out of business, the coffeemaker gets liquidated along with the rest of the fixtures.

The Cuisinart with a thermal carafe is listed just $20 less than a Bunn at Kohl's. I bought mine when it was on sale and used one of those coupons that they send out, I paid less than $100 for it. Why not just buy him a coffee press? He'll have his hot coffee to drink. I think they run about $20-50 (depending on brand).

Fast Track Auctions. LOL My brother told me about them. It's amazing what you can find on there.

I really love my Cuisinart Grind and Brew. It holds 1/2 pound of coffee beans, is programmable and you don't have to clean the grinder after every use like my old Cuisinart. The carafe isn't thermal on this one but you can keep the burner on for up to four hours. It is piping hot in the morning and I have to let my cup sit for a couple of minutes to be able to drink it.

Wow! Thanks for the replies. We aren't interested in the Keurig we like to make 8-10 cups at a time. A bigger reason is that we don't like all of the waste involved with the individual plastic containers.

DH doesn't need the coffee scalding hot, but more than lukewarm. I'm thinking the Cuisinart and will look into the Bunn. Seems like pros and cons to both. I'm hoping for some good Black Friday sales!

Kuerig makes an insert so you can use any kind of coffee you want. You don't have to use the K-cups. I like having a nice fresh hot cup of coffee at any time. Coffee that site in a carafe always tastes stale to me, no matter how fresh it is.

I agree - nasty.. But then again, I can't even drink coffee that's been sitting in the pot for more than 5 minutes.. The only coffee I can drink that doesn't tear my stomach up is Folgers - and I have a Black & Decker one-cup that makes the perfect cup of coffee..:thumbsup2 It's so good I won't even switch to another type of coffeemaker.. When my old one died a couple of years ago, I tried several different kinds and didn't like them at all.. Love my B&D - even though I can only get them online now..:thumbsup2
