Need suggestions for finding double stroller

Other than consignment shops, Ebay, craigslist, where do I find a decent used side-by-side stroller? I've tried garage sale hopping but it is hit or miss around here lately and there haven't been any. Ugh. Is there some sort of website someone can recommend? What does everyone do with their strollers that there children have outgrown? Please point me in the right direction. Thank you!

I just sold the last single stroller that my 4 yr old used. she was too big.
What other people have suggested is umbrella strollers and get the clips that will hook them together. this would work for older kids.
I sold my doulbe jogger on ebay about 3 months ago.
we are in process of getting DD her own SN jogger. (gasp at the price even with insurance!)
I do not see too many doubles at garage sales anymore. I have seen at places like once upon a child (consignment shop just for kids stuff)
Maybe if you have a friend that has one, you MIGHT consider asking if you could borrow?
I did borrow my double to a friend, they ended up buying their own after the trip, they like the jogger so much! I was still needing mine or I would have sold it to them cheap

Is there a twins/multiples club in your area? Just about every one of them (that I know of) have sales where you can buy gently used children's items (including strollers) for really cheap. Go to nmota.org. That's the national chapter. You'll be able to link to your local chapter that way. Being a mom of twins, I get most of my kids' stuff through the sales.

Good used double strollers are hard to find. I tried really hard to get a good side-by-side, but I ended up buying new. The only used ones I could find were tandem strollers or cheap side-by-sides. However, in addition to the places you listed, you could try the classifieds in your paper. I never found one, but you might.

BTW, I ended up buying a Peg Perego Twin Aria, and it's worth the price I paid for it. It's a fantastic stroller, and I can see why people either use them until they fall apart or give/sell them to friends or family members when their kids outgrow them.

Umbrellas clipped together is NOT something you want to push for very long... easy to use in the airport for a short run, but a pain at the mall or WDW.

Only place we could find one worth our $ was ebay, shipping wasn't that bad really either, we refused to buy new since we use a stroller about 2 times a year if that.

What price range are you looking at? We bought one for $60 new and it was GREAT for disneyworld. Fits through standard doorway, has baskets and sunshade, folds easily. Lightweight too.

Do you have a Babies R Us store by you? That's where we bought our Graco side by side double stroller. It has the basket on the bottom and shade thing on top. I can't recall how much it was, maybe around $70-$100?
My twins are 8 now,so haven't used it in about 3 yrs. We still have our double stroller, folded up, collecting dust. I never get around to giving it away or selling it, I might just donate the used stroller to my church, since they use double strollers often for the babies during Sunday School. I go to one of the mega community churches in my area.

I am not adverse to the more reasonably priced strollers...I welcome them. It is just my requirements are: accepts up to a 40 lb child in each seat, 5 points restraints (very hard to find unless the stroller is big $$), canopy and storage basket underneath. I've seen 2 strollers on craigslist but got no response when I emailed the owners. Sigh. Anybody have a Chicco? What do you think about it?

We contacted the Avalon company before buying this stroller and they told us it is rated for 30 pounds of child in each seat plus weight in each basket for a total of 75 pounds overall for the stroller. Our daughter weighed 38 pounds last november and our younger daughter weighed 28 pounds and we carried at least 10 pounds of stuff around in the baskets and we had NO problems at all with it. We still have it, still use it now with a 40 pound child and a 32 pound child. It's holding up great. We will probably not use it after this winter because neither of them wants to be strolled except at WDW.

The Chicco doubles are good and reasonably priced but a tad bit wide. I think they are 31 inches or so in width? Your best bet for a used SBS (not a jogger)for larger children would be a used double Maclaren. Try joining the Yahoo group Strollerswap. This group has over 4000 members, many of them stroller fanatics who own many, many strollers. There are many for sale and you could post an ISO and someone in your area might have something or most sellers are willing to ship and most of the sellers are reputable.

Your best bet for a used SBS...would be a used double Maclaren. Try joining the Yahoo group Strollerswap.

I second Madelyn's suggestion of searching for a used double Maclaren. When we were shopping for strollers, we "test-drove" various SBS strollers: Chicco, Peg Perego, Combi and the MacLaren. The MacLaren seemed to be more solid, IMHO. We ended up buying a Mac Twin Traveller and currently use it when we go to Disneyland. It's very sturdy and steers easily (even with just one child in it) and it's held up well so far. The width is 30 inches across and I've never had trouble getting through public doorways with the TT. The weight limit is 55 lbs. for EACH seat. My kids will most likely outgrow the stroller height-wise before they reach the weight limit.

I definitely agree on joining the Yahoogroup Strollerswap. I'm a member too, but I don't post much. I just lurk and drool over the cool-looking strollers everyone has, LOL!

Try http://freecycle.org/ you join the "club" (it's not a club). Just sign up for a group in your area, your first post must be an "Offer" ie give away. It's very cool, I give away and pick up things all the time. It's better than going to Good Will. The deal goes something like this.... you post what you have to give away, people reply to your post and you choose who gets to come pick it up and when. Then you post what you "Want" and sometimes people meet your needs and you go pick up the item, or you get no replies at all. I just got an upright 6 shelf deep freezer for FREEEEEE all I had to do was pick it up. Give it a try and if you get no replies wait the reposting time and post it again. Freecycle is great! I belong to 2 Freecycle Yahoo groups in my area and have been able to respond to posters who have requested things and also have offered things that would have gone to the landfill, such as our old carpet that we removed to put in hardwood. I'm amazed at what people will take and also what people offer. You could do an ISO for a double stroller, but you might not be able to specify what type you get, SBS or tandem. I guess you could say something like, SBS preferable for older kids....although, often people offer something and you have to take it (well, you don't have to, but that would seem rude to be picky about something someone offers you for free). So, if you agree to pick-up, you have to do it and then are possibly stuck with a stroller that doesn't work well for you, although you could then just turn around and Freecycle it again. Depending on where you live, there could also be Yahoo Yardsale boards (where you pay for items) and there you can be selective about requesting something in particular, like ISO Maclaren Double Stroller.

We used a Jeep Wrangler Twin Sport stroller our last 2 trips. It only cost about $75 it's lightweight, my only issue is it doesn't have a basket.

Hmm, I'd (unusually and respectfully) disagree. We've used our clipped-together Maclaren Triumphs in the mall and Disneyland pretty easily. I prefer the clipped Macs to our double stroller, actually...but we've got a heavy non-travel-friendly double (Peg Perego Duette).

And, we don't typically shop in massive crowds at the mall and we *did* visit DL on a weekday in off-peak season, and we've never visited WDW so I could be wrong.

I do think that two sturdy strollers clipped together are *great* for malls, parks, etc., over a double stroller since you have the option of together or separate, one adult pushing or two, etc.

Perhaps it is more related to the strollers than the clips? Our umbrellas are $10 cheapies with no canopy and no basket. Just a seat with a 3 pt harness. I find them difficult to steer clipped together as one always gets ahead of the other. We generally only do it IN the airport, WHILE we have possession of all our bags. Once bags are checked, we split them up and each take one.

I've read that the clips that hold two single strollers together work well "in a pinch" and steer pretty good but it does make the width too wide to fit into narrow areas. I would think it would be too wide to fit through the handicap turnstyle to get into the park, so you would have to take the strollers in separately, then snap them together once in the park. The strollers would also have to be of similar type/height etc. It would probably work OK in the mall too, but I would think you would have to snap the strollers together once inside the mall, since it would probably be too wide to fit through the entrance door. And it would be hard to manuever in a small store with crowded aisles but in the wide open mall, I can see that it would work well. I have no real experience using these though, since our two singles are of different type/width.
