Need Suggestions For ADR's For a Vegetarian???

I am helping my cousin plan her honeymoon in November. They will be staying at AKL from 11/11 to 11/18 and will be on the Dining Plan. She has only been once and he has never been so they are definite newbies...I am so glad that she finally asked me for advice!

I am good at giving Disney advice but her fiance is a Vegetarian and so I am clueless about where to suggest that they eat.

My cousin is pretty much up for eating anywhere but is concerned about what her fiance can eat. What places will have some good options for them? Thanks so much!!

Boma and the Tusker House buffet at AK both have vegetarian options on the buffet. But to get an idea of what's available all over WDW, go to

At the bottom of the page search by "Main Ingredient" -- vegetable, grain, fruit, cheese, etc. It doesn't mean every single option will be vegetarian, but should give you a good idea. For example:

Backlot Express has Grilled Vegetable Sandwich - Toasted roll, mushrooms, red peppers, zucchini, tomato, watercress, and cheese. - $6.99

Beaches and Cream has Veggie Burger - Grilled vegetable and grain patty topped with lettuce, tomato, and pickle served on a multi-grain bun. Served with fresh fruit or fries. - $7.49

California Grill has Grilled Summer Vegetable Brick Oven Fired Flatbread - Made with zucchini, roasted peppers, feta cheese, and olive vinaigrette. - $11.00

Chefs de France has Lasagnes de legumes du soleil a l'huile d'olive au thym - Zucchini, eggplant, bell peppers, onions and tomato baked into thin layers of pasta. - $18.95

Hi. My younger sister is a vegan. She calls each of our planned TS restaurants a week before we leave and speaks with a chef. They note the date/time of the ADR and also any requested ingredients they might not have on hand. (usually just tofu)

When we are seated at one of our ADR's she tells the server about her contacting the chef and he/she informs the chef that she's there. The chef comes out, they chat a little about what she likes and she's always had a wonderful meal. They do this for her even at buffets because her options are so limited. She is more greatful than you can believe because there are only so many green salads and veggie burgers one can eat over a one to two week period.

Some vegetarians eat fish, some chicken (don't get that but okay), etc.. There are a lot of dishes at TS restaurants that can be made vegetarian by simply leaving out one ingredient. You can request extra vegetables instead. They are very flexible at the TS restaurants, they will not have any difficulties.

The CS vegetarian meals are more limited. There are lots of veggie burgers. Columbia Harbour House in MK has a great veggie sandwich. I think they also have a veggie sandwich at the Backlot Express in DHS but I'm not 100%. The food court by the Land in Epcot (Sunshine something or other) has lots of veggie options, she always gets something there. Morroco (sp?) has veggie options.

Not to worry, they will find vegetarian options everywhere!

Just wanted to add that Roaring Forks (CS at WL) has a great vegetarian sandwich and a really nice salad option so I'd guess they probably have similar items at other resort CS.

Have the vegetarian take a look at the menus on allears.net and go from there. As a vegetarian I never put the responsibility of knowing both what I eat and what I like on anyone else; its my job to feed me. Let him select the items and places that interest him.

Lots of times people think vegetarians will eat any vegetarian option. Not so fast my friend, we actually get to not like things and can be a bit picky too.

All that said some places that were on our list:
Columbia Harbor House for the vegetarian chili
Main St. Bakery for the Basil Mozz sandwich (did this one )
Veggie burger at many locations (Peco Bill's was gross)
Boma for lots of items on the dinner buffet, the soups being the most unique so many soups are meat based its nice to have something like this.
New for us: Crystal Palace even has tofu on the buffet menu
Resort CS may have a vegetarian lasagna or pasta dish

For TS we liked the buffets because we can get options and volume. Also its a good way to get a picky 6yo to eat more than pizza.

Thanks everyone! They weren't sure where to go because they say that they have looked at the menus but didn't see any options for him (or not many anyway).

LOL I am actually surprised that she finally asked me for help. I have been after her that she should get her ressies done and trying to give her any kind of Disney info but you know how people think they already know everything. Ugh!

But at least she is wanting some guidance! Yay Plus I just made the last of our ressies for our September trip so now her Honeymoon can be my next Disney project!

If they go to allears.net on the Dining section along the left edge there is a Vegetarian link. Some of that info is dated, but it is a great place to find menus, items, etc. to research.

I am a vegetarian and here is where we are eating for our Sept. trip:

Chef Mickey's (this is really for my DS...not sure what I'll be eating here!)

Boma - I've heard this is hand's down, the best place for vegetarians, and if they are staying at AKL, all the better!

Garden Grill - It's a family style meal, but they will prepare a special vegetarian pasta dish for you - from what I've been told, it's a pasta primavera that uses very fresh veggies.

Whispering Canyon Cafe - They have a vegetarian burrito dish, and they will also do special requests (pasta, etc...) My DH really wants the skillet....so I gave in on this one!

California Grill - Will make a special "Vegetarian Unplugged" dish - changes often - very, very good! This would be a nice restaurant to eat at on their honeymoon!

Rainforest Cafe - Has a very good "plant sandwich" with roasted veggies, etc... a lot of options here.

50's Primetime Cafe - My favorite restaurant - they have a vegetarian stuffed pepper dish that is to die for!

Some vegetarians eat fish, some chicken (don't get that but okay), etc.

We vegetarians, by definition, do not eat fish or chicken or any other animals. It's a common misconception, which unfortunately some almost-vegetarians and pescetarians perpetuate.



strmtroopr96, there are meals that are easy. Buffets (Boma being the best, then Crystal Palace; even Biergarten was fine for me) and breakfasts--that's assuming he's a lacto-ovo vegetarian. Most TS restaurants have at least one vegetarian option and if they don't, they can fix up something. San Angel Inn in Epcot has a vegetarian menu that you have to ask for. Counter service is trickiest, especially in Animal Kingdom where the choices are cheese pizza and a veggie burger.

I'm a vegetarian, and I have never had a problem eating at any Disney table service restaurant - except for Nine Dragons in China at Epcot. So I would recommend they avoid that restaurant. (Also avoid Yak and the Yeti - I was told by the manager that certain things were vegetarian only to then be told by my server when I went to order them that they were cooked with chicken broth, so weren't. I did end up with a vegetarian salad...big woop.)

That being said, the most delicious, vegetarian-friendly table service restaurants I've eaten at have been:
1) Boma at AKL
2) San Angel Inn at Epcot (you have the specifically ask for the vegetarian menu there, but it's quite tasty in my opinion)
3) Tusker House at AK (haven't eaten there personally since it was converted to buffet, but supposedly there are still good veggie options there)
4) Teppan Edo at Epcot

Vegetarian-friendly counter service
1) Cosmic Rays at MK
2) Columbia Harbour House at MK (if either of them are a chili fan, the vegetarian chili is really good, as is the lighthouse(?) sandwich if you like hummus and broccoli.
3) El Pirata y El Perico at MK if it's open - they have a vegetarian taco, and in the past at least, they have substituted beans for meat in the taco salad when I requested
4) Sunshine Seasons food court at Epcot
5) the pizza places (Pizza Planet at DHS and and Pizzafari at AK)

Places that I wouldn't categorize exactly as vegetarian-friendly (only 1 veggie option or none on the menu), but that I've gotten really delicious veggie food at:
1) Ohanas at the Polynesian - the first couple times I ate here the vegetarian option they made for me was delicious - the most recent time was only OK, but that could have been a fluke. It's not on the menu, you have to let them know when you make the reservation and when you check in that there's a vegetarian.
2) Le Cellier at Epcot - Sometimes I've gotten really delicious veggie stuff here and sometimes only OK
3) Brown Derby at DHS - the one veggie thing on the menu happens to be something that I think tastes delicious (Noodle Bowl with Wok Fried Coconut Tofu - I ask them to leave the mushrooms out as I am not a mushroom fan)

Places that aren't necessarily my favorite due to my picky-ness, but do have vegetarian options:
1) Pecos Bill at MK
2) 50's Prime Time at DHS
3) Tony's Town Square at MK
4) Sci Fi Dine-in at DHS

Basically, my tip is not to avoid any restaurant they want to eat in (other than Nine Dragons and Yak and Yeti), ask the server what items on the menu are vegetarian, and in my experience, the servers are always more than happy to either point out what is already vegetarian, point out what can be made vegetarian by taking out an ingredient or two, or going to talk to the chef to see what can be done.

I have been to Disney World with my parents and siblings, with my boyfriend, and with a friend, and in all cases I was the only vegetarian in the group, and it really has very rarely been an issue to eat where everyone else does. Sometimes I've ended up with something that was merely "edible", but at least I was spending time with family/friends and enjoying the theming and atmosphere in the restaurants. For instance, even though 50's Prime Time and Sci Fi Dine-in are not even close to favorites for the food, I go back again and again for the theming. They're fun.
