After spending a few days in LA(DLR), we will be arriving in SD on a Friday evening around 9PM or so and will then have Sat-Tue there before heading home on Wednesday. I am looking for some different things to do this time around as we were there around 5 years ago and did the following...

SeaWorld
Zoo
Harbor Cruise
USS Midway
Point Loma
Old Town
Balboa Park/Museums
LaJolla

We will probably go to SeaWorld (I can get tickets for $41 each) which will take up one full day and one day for walking around Old Town(morning/early afternoon) and La Jolla Cove(late afternoon/evening). We really enjoyed these last visit. The other two days are up in the air and I am looking for recommendations other than "laying on the beach".

Thanks!

Let's see...

You visited the Zoo last time, what about the Wild Animal Park this time? Though it gets awfully warm out there in August.

Torrey Pines State Park - you can hike there along the coast

Balboa Park is huge - you can't possibly have done ALL of the museums and gardens in your previous visit! :-) So I'd recommend a return visit there.

Cabrillo National Monument - if it's a clear day there are great views from there looking towards downtown - though since you said you visited Point Loma last time, maybe that's what you saw?

Coronado Island - very nice beach there, and walking around the Hotel del Coronado or some of the nearby shops can be fun. Mootown Creamery serves really good ice cream - you can do add-ins if you want. The servings are huge!

I am guessing you aren't traveling with kids (very different answers if you are)

We enjoyed the Scripps Aquarium in La Jolla. Small but good.

The Gaslamp Quarter is fun to wander around. Some good eats and nightlife. Maybe a baseball game if the Padres are in town? They have a really nice ballpark.

Maybe a kayaking trip?

I also second Coronado. So pretty there.

P.S. I found the TripAdvisor San Diego forum to have lots of great advice as well.

This is a beach thing...tho it does not involve laying around...

My suggestion is to go to a really nice beach, like Moonlight Beach, in Encinitas and bring a boogie board with you. Spend the afternoon having a picnic on the beach, and boogie boarding in the surf. There's nothing like it. It's relatively inexpensive. All you need is a boogie board (pick one up at Costco for ~$25) and a rash guard.

We spent days doing that and we were not bored.

DD15 will be with DW and myself.

Padres games are always great. We try to get to 2 while we're there. We don't have professional baseball here.
Scripp's Aquarium is very good for a couple of hours.

The Chula Vista Nature Center is one of our favorites. Very relaxing, peaceful and quiet. Easy to get to as well.

Yes, Padres games are very fun. Even if you don't like baseball, or if you hate to see the Padres lose [like me], Petco Park is beautiful and the experience is amazing. If you like the outdoors you could make a trip out to Joshua Tree National Park or Anza Borrego State Park. Also, there are plenty of casinos in the area if that's your type of thing.

I reccomend the Old Town Trolley Tour. DH and I did it the trip before last and had a great time. It takes you all over SD and onto Coronado with a commentary on what you are passing. Plus you are able to hop on/off at a variety of stops to do some sightseeing on your own then just get back on a trolly and continue on. It wasn't too expensive and you get coupons to use at some of the places at the trolley stops.

Moonlight Beach, Encinatas..How does it differ from Coronado Beach(BY THE DEL) or LaJolla Shores Beach(I think that is what it is called)?

Thanks for any advance info!!!!!!!!!!!:goodvibes:goodvibes:goodvibes
