Ok, here's a good one for you. With almost a week away till we leave my husband calls me this morning and tells me that he received an email saying that we were going to be staying with the overflow of Rosen Shingle Creek Resort, at the Rosen Center Hotel. (instead of actually at Shingle Creek) Ughhhhh. No!

So I called and cancelled the reservation there, even though he is still attending a conference at The Rosen Shingle Creek Resort. We will just be staying elsewhere.

He wants somewhere really close, and in the same ballpark of expense. Well I don't think it's going to happen. One of the closes places is the Hilton Orlando. Price of around $1130.00, plus parking fees. Then the same time frame at POFQ is like $1012.00, no other fees. The Rosen Center Hotel was like $995, I think. I'm going crazy with this. :crazy2:

Check homeaway.com or vbro.com for vacation homes. They're generally much cheaper than hotels.

Why did you cancel the first reservation?

Try the Residence Inn by Marriott. They aren't too far, have suites, and free breakfast. Become a Marriot member and get discounted rates or use AAA. I think it will fall in your price range. How many nights are you looking at?

La Quinta Inn Convention Center is priced lower. I haven't stayed in this one and I've had both great and not so great experiences with the condition of the La Quintas I've stayed in. But they are also close and have free breakfast.

And you'll have a car, right?

If you're there for the conference and getting to/from RSC would be a priority, then you may not have a lot of options. He has to get to the conference. At least at the Rosen Center they'll shuttle him back and forth. But if you stay anywhere else, it could be hard to get there. I would hold or re-make that Rosen Center reservation until you figure something out. Don't cancel first!

If it's only $17 more to stay on Disney property vs. the Rosen Center, that's a no-brainer for me! But not sure how far away that is.
::yes:: Yep, and we will have a car. I already have us one night booked there, but I am secretly hoping now that my whole trip will be there. I need a resort that will help entertain my 11-year-old, and me and her having free transportation to anywhere Disney related is such a plus. I am waiting on him to get home so we can decide together, but I'm hoping he won't mind a extra 20 minute drive.

His employer is paying the bill, correct? Will they allow Disney, or want people to stay in close proximity for meetings etc, or preferably just gave him an amount and free range?

Will his employer still pay for the hotel stay if your husband isn't staying at one of the meeting hotels? You might want to make sure that it will be covered (or at least reimbursed at the same rate as the meeting hotel rate) before you start booking Disney resorts.

TBH, the primary reason for the trip is the meeting. You and your daughter are tagging along. The hotel should be convenient for your husband, especially if meetings begin in the morning or if he might be expected to attend evening events at the hotel.

That's what I was saying above. I'd almost suggest booking both, staying separately, and paying out of pocket for POFQ if you want to combine a Disney vacay with a work trip. At least transportation to Orlando is covered and food can be covered or a write off at the very least.

Ya, they'll pay and he wants the Hilton Orlando. So it's all good.

Because we thought we were staying at the Rosen Shingle Creek Resort, but we got bumped out to their sister resort. Ughhhh. No.[/QUOTE]

Don't worry, there is PLENTY to entertain you and an 11 year old in Orlando without Disney!! Even without going to any the major parks. Restaurants, mini golf, shopping.. Spend a day or evening at Old Town- we love it!!!

Your priority should be convenience for your husband--this is WORK for him. When my DH goes to these conferences, he frequently has evening events or homework type stuff, so he needs to be nearby. He also finds the evening cocktail hour type events to be a great place to network--he's in a specialized field, it's great for him to talk to the handful of other specialists around the country and swap ideas. That should be the main goal of this trip.

Now, you and your DD are free to do whatever you want all day, and utilize the (paid for) hotel room, but this trip isn't about you. So, find a hotel that works for DH--you should be the one doing any extra driving.

Won't it be harder for your husband to attend to the events of the conference if he's not on site? A TWENTY MINUTE ride?? Each direction? That's making his work day a whole lot more difficult.

Sorry, but I think that if you're going to "tag along" on his work obligations, the accommodations and plans should center on what's the easiest way for him to get his work done.

The Hilton is closer to the Rosen Shingle Creek Resort than the sister resort. Good Lord!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What about it "sucks"? And do you know that, or is it hearsay?

And here's what I was replying to:

He's working.
Believe me, he's not working. He's been to these things a million times. They are a vacation. It was even offered as, you wanna go to Orlando, for a free trip. He has been going for nearly 12 years to these things.

Anyway I said earlier, we are going to stay at the Hilton, which is closer, which has a fabulous pool area, and he is happy with that. All is good. Ok.

And we are doing one night at POFQ and some Disney resort hopping, shopping.
