Need some Keurig help!

This is the one we have :
http://www.qvc.com/Keurig-K10-Perso...ELL-_-IOFFER-_-1&relType=IOFFER&refLocation=1

Purchased it 2 1/2 years ago. Still works like a champ!

We don't use it often - in fact there are times when my mother, who comes up to watch our dog while we go on vacation, is the only one who has used it for the past year.

But every time we think of selling it, we change our mind.

It works great. Since we don't use it too often, we didn't want a water reservoir. (Plus I heard that the ones with the reservoir tend to clog more than the ones without.) When we go through a phase of using it we just keep a pitcher of water next to it.

I am going to show DS the "wonderful hot water" function this winter (ramen and tea and cocoa - oh my!).

I did order mine from QVC - it came on easy pay with 80 or so kcups though. I think I paid around $120 or so after all was said and done.

For those of you who use the system for multiple things, do you find that there is any residual coffee taste when you make tea or just get hot water?

I don't drink coffee, but my office has a Keuring machine (you need to bring your own K-cups). I'd get some hot chocolate ones, but I've always been worried that my drink would taste of coffee.

We make tea/instant soup/hot cocoa with our Keurig, but we use the regular (cheaper) envelopes like you would use even without a Keurig...we just use it to get the hot water ;) I've never noticed a coffee flavor when doing so, but most of the time I run it without a kcup in in and toss that water, then put the teabag in my cup and run it again, just in case. My kids don't bother to that, and they have never mentioned a residual coffee flavor, and believe me, if it was there, they would memtion it!

I also use the Keurig when I'm cooking something that requires hot/boiling water, like boxed potatoes. It's faster and easier than microwaving it.

We are on our second b70. I sent the first into work with my husband to enjoy & nearly bought a 2.0 to replace it but checked reviews & prevented a costly mistake with the Proprietary microchips they are using to prevent use with competitors in the new models :/ we have a electric kettle for hot tea & such. To be honest, i use the kettle ibecause it s so efficient, to speed the cooking process i put an inch of water in a pot to heat & boil the rest in the kettle then add.

Love my Keurig! But...if I didn't drink coffee, I would get an electric kettle instead. My SIL is a huge tea drinker and has one. It boils the water in pretty much the sme amount of time for the Keurig to heat up.

She keeps it plugged in and the water is alway pretty much ready all day long.

May be worth checking out to see if it is something that may work better for your needs.

This is what I have, an electric kettle by Breville. I love the thing. Gets water to boiling pretty quickly and doesn't sit on my stovetop which I like. The thing about the Keurig is that many teas require a good, rolling boil for optimal brew and the Keurig doesn't do that. If you are picky about tea, then I would not suggest the Keurig for tea. Fine for hot cocoa though.

We have a Keurig here at home and we love it. It's an older model, with the side water reservoir and a choice of two cup sizes. DH and I make a regular 10 cup pot of coffee each morning, but use the Keurig for a fresh cup to take in the car on the way to work. It takes any and all K-cup containers, and we also pack our own in the little basket thing they sold with the maker.

At work we have the personal sized, where you add water for every cup you make. I find this to be a real pain, remembering in which order to add things, open things, etc. If you go to BBB with a coupon or two, you should be able to get a full-sized Keurig at a reasonable price. I don't' think the personal-sized ones are worth the bother.

Ours gets a lot of use. We're on either our second or third, can't remember. (They do stop working after a while. Ours currently has to be turned off between cups or it makes a repetitive sound but doesn't ready the water. Uggh. It's a love/hate relationship!)

We use regular tea bags and hot chocolate packets for reasons others have mentioned. But it is convenient for heating water. (DS17 and a buddy used it late last night to make hot chocolate while they were gaming.)

I've spent the last few years figuring out which K Cups I like the best. It's a bummer when you buy some you don't really like. My favorites are Dunkin Donuts (most expensive, but on sale right now) and Eight O'Clock (generally about $10 for 18 cups). Unfortunately it's rare to find either at a bargain price. I've experimented with others and found out I'm generally safe with anything called "Donut Shop or Shoppe", and I can often find them in a large quantity locally, like Wegman's or Stop and Shop; right now Christmas Tree Shops and Ocean State Job Lot have a big case of 80 for $25. They are acceptable. (Better deals can be found online, but I prefer to shop locally for my KCups.)

I enjoy having my Keurig but I think the technology could be improved and the cups can be pretty pricey. Using regular tea bags and hot chocolate packets, and refillable cups for coffee, can certainly help save on costs.

If you still decide to get a Keurig, go for the "old" style, not a 2.0 machine. You can find them at Kohl's, Bed, Bath & Beyond, Costco, or other stores for less than $100 with a coupon or sale. They will take any K cups, even the store brand coffees or bargain ones found on Amazon or at Costco. The 2.0 will only take official Keurig-approved K cups.

Does it say somewhere on the box if it's a 2.0? I bought a K40 Elite for my DS as a Christmas gift - how can I tell if it's a 2.0 or not? If it matters, it cost less than $100.

The newest models are the 2.0 ones. It says "2.0" all over the box- the 2.0 are also the ones that include a carafe and are the only machines that will brew more than a single cup at a time. Pretty easy to tell the difference between the old and new models. I believe the new 2.0 models are the "350", "450", and "550". The K40, I believe, is definitely the old model, not the 2.0.

I'd like to get a Keurig and I don't know where to start. I know both my sons drink coffee from time to time. DH and I do not. But we would use it for the hot chocolate. I've also seen you can do other drink in the Keurig too (apple cider, etc)

Aside from coffee and hot chocolate, what other "drinks" can you get in the pods?

Any particular model # to get for the machine? Something simple, don't really need anything top notch. Any suggestions?

Honestly? I would not buy it for hot chocolate. So far I have not found a brand that I like.

I am on #2 machine. I had to resort to buying a machine at Cabela's just to stay away from the 2.0 and I had a gift card. I bought the Cuisinart model, which is not cheap but very nice.

This looks like a great deal
