I posted this on another board that some of you might visit but got one response. Maybe it'll do better here?!

I had an interview on wednesday for a job that I'm really really interested in. The person who interviewed me said she was really hoping to have a second set of interviews by friday (today), to meet with her bosses. We seemed to have a good interview and she seemed to be implying that she would give me a call before friday. She also said she'd want someone to start on monday, as she is already swamped with work (which the person hired would be helping her with) and asked if I would be able to do that. I said I would be able to work 3 of the 5 days of the work week, as I do have another job (that i'm trying to quit). After the interview I sent her a thank you email and let her know in the email that I would definately arrange to be able to work for her next week if she was interested in hiring me, as i didn't want that to be a factor in her not hiring me.

But she hasn't called me. I'm really worried and want to call her but I feel like I've already sent the email and it would be desperate of me, especially since she said she'd like to have the process done by today. I just can't get it out of my head though. She made me feel so welcome and that she was also interested in hiring me. Should I just forget it and think she's already hired someone else, or should I pursue it a bit longer. I'm afraid to get my hopes up too because I tend to do that every interview i get and I really hate being let down.

I really just wanted to vent all this and hopefully get some advice. Sorry it got so long. Thanks.

I would call her. Good luck!!

I am an executive recruiter and have been since 1999. My advice is CALL HER. If you get voicemail hang up and call again in a bit. If you don't get her before 5 then leave a message. Just tell her "Hello ____ It's Friday afternoon and I was just interested in following up with you about the opportunity. I had emailed you earlier this week as I am sure you can sense I am very interested in the position and wanted to see where I am in the hiring process." or something like that! GOOD LUCK! and if ya don't get it .....there's a good reason. You want your job to be a real match for YOU and for THEM. So everyone wins!

Thanks. I'm so nervous. I don't want to call her and annoy her or anything. She seems like she's really busy which is why she needs to hire someone. I'm just really confused and frustrated.

As a hiring manager, I would caution you against this advice. There are MANY times when I am too busy to answer my phone and allow it to go to voicemail. With Caller ID, which most businesses have, I can see who is calling so that I can make this decision. If I saw your number pop up a bunch of times all day long, and I was really busy and choosing not to answer, I would write you off as a stalker faster than you can say "You just don't fit in".

Call once, leave a voicemail the first time, then wait. It stinks but it's part of the game.

I agree, you should call, but I'd wait until after 5:00pm, call, and leave a VM that she'll get on Monday. If she's already hired someone, calling her this afternoon isn't going to make a difference, and if she hasn't, she's probably not going to do so today anyhow.

It can't hurt to call! I can't imagine a scenario where she was planning on hiring you and then says "heck, she called me - now she's OFF the list!"
