Need some ideas for a quick trip to St. Louis

Hi!

We will be driving from Denver to St. Louis in a few weeks for my birthday. I have never been there before and was wondering if anyone had any ideas? We will probably be there for two days.

We love St. Louis!

We went for the first time the week we first met DS's birthmother so it holds a special place in our hearts.

Originally, we went to see the Yankees play the Cardinals. Even though we're Yankee fans, I suggest you see the Cards play in their new stadium.

We also loved the zoo. It's free admission! We did make a donation. But, wow, out of all the zoos I've been too, that one was just amazing.

Don't forget the Gateway Arch. I didn't think I could handle going to the top, but we were still able to enjoy the museum and movie of how the Arch was built.

One night we went to a casino. It was our first time to a casino and after about an hour on the slots machine, DH and I decided gambling wasn't for us so we decided to leave. We each checked our losses and it was the EXACT SAME AMOUNT, to the penny.

There are so many things to see and do in St. Louis and I'm sure I've only named a few. I loved the history there and we can't wait to go back. I hope you have a great time!

Dh and I were in St Louis for our honeymoon. It's a gorgeous city! We spent some time at the Arch, including going to the top. What a view! At the base of the arch is an area with a Lewis and Clark-type museum, old fashion general store, and a movie theatre, I believe. Plus there's a beautiful park right there.

We saw a Cardinal's game in the new stadium, then went to Cardinal's Hall of Fame, which is in the same building as the Bowling Hall of Fame. Admission includes free bowling! Woohoo!

We also went to Ozzie's, which is Ozzie Smith's restaurant. He's DH's favourite player of all time, so we had to make the pilgrimage. It's kinda like an upscale sports bar, and the food is FANTASTIC!! Our waiter told us that Ozzie is in there about twice a week, and he had been there the day before with Michael Jordon after a game of golf.

So obviously our trip was very baseball-themed. But I'm sure you'll have a fantastic time, no matter what your interests are. Have fun!

Depending on if you have children...we went last summer for 4 days with a 1 year old and 3 year old. We did the magic house, grant's farm, the zoo, the arch and some shopping. Go online and get coupons to the magic house. The zoo is the best one we have been to. Have a fun trip!

DH and I are heading to St. Louis ourselves in a few weeks. We are going to a Cards game, Lacledes Landing and Anheiser-Busch. This is a very quick trip.

Be sure to stop buy in Kansas City on your way. The Country Club Plaza is just a few minutes from I-70!

DH is definitely into baseball, so we may try to go to a game out there. I know the kids would like the zoo. We will be staying at the Sheraton St. Louis City Center Hotel.

Is there anything Disney related in the area. Even a Disney store? I gotta get a fix.

Unfortunately, nothing Disney-related around here...the Disney Stores are a joke. Nothing but toys. I almost never bother going into them anymore, which I hate, because I used to LOVE them!

Hope you enjoy your trip, and definitely try to make a Cards game if you can. The new stadium's fantastic--great view of the Arch, etc., and air actually circulates inside it, which means it feels about 20 degrees cooler than old Busch did during the summer. That place was like a blast furnace. Willie McGee said that during one game, back when the field was AstroTurf, the soles of his shoes actually melted a bit while he was in the outfield.

Sorry--I don't know where that digression came from. Anyway, I definitely second the recommendation of the Zoo. It really is outstanding.

The weather has been reeeeaaallly nice this summer... usually it is really hot and humid. Hope it is nice when you visit.

Six Flags is also close by... if you have the need for speed on a Roller coaster ride or a slide in the water park....

Lots to do here!

If you want to catch a cards game, look at the official website stlcardinals.com and click on the tickets link and look into the Prime seats club for the days you'll be in town. You may be able to get great seats for a great price. They are season ticket holders who can't use their seats. It's illegal to "scalp" tickets in MO so it's really the only way for them to recoup some of their costs legally.

If you have a membership to your local zoo, you probably have reciprocity to our zoo here. That means you can get half price safari passes. Normally they are $12 per person but they give you unlimited railroad rides, childrens zoo admission, carousel, wild ride and 3-d movie plus a bag of popcorn I think. I don't think it's worth it to pay for that unless your little one is going to want to ride the train constantly. If you do NOT have a membership to your local zoo, you may want to consider purchasing a membership to this zoo, they start at $60 and they are almost fully tax-deductible. Details are available at stlzoo.org. When we visited recently, we got a coupon book that gave us $10 off a membership if we paid for parking that day. I'm not sure if they do that daily or not. I used to suggest you follow the signs to the North Lot and double park while a member of your party runs in to buy a membership to get the free parking but if they do the coupon book thing, you not longer have to do that. Anyway, the membership gives you tons of railroad passes, free parking, free childrens zoo admission, discount on food/drinks, merchandise, etc. Oh and there's a Build a bear at the Zoo. They have exclusive animals there, so bring your coupons!

If you need a break from the heat, try the St. Louis Science Center. It's also in Forest Park and it's also free admission. It's pretty cool and your sons may like it a lot. www.slsc.org

I like the City Museum, but it's expensive compared to other attractions in the area. It is, however, extremely close to your hotel!

www.teddrewes.com This is a must when visiting STL. It's frozen custard, not ice cream. We were just there this weekend and out of about 12 cars parked near us, 5 of them were from out of state. It's that famous. I recommend the Chippewa location for better atmosphere. If there's a line to the street, don't let that stop you. It moves fast!!

With kids going along the City Museum is a MUST do! Plan an entire day there. Our kids have been there several times and LOVE the place. Our DS15's band stayed at the Sheraton last fall. It is a nice place and the staff is excellent. They had a couple bands staying there, so well over 400 high school kids, and they were so accommodating and great to work with.

We went to the Magic House on our last visit to St. Louis. Your older kids are borderline as to liking the place. It is really geared toward younger kids so if you are strapped for time, I would skip it.
